What exec needed to be hit over the head with a pie chart to understand that DSL often just isn't competitive with cable because of the need for a landline?
(also, i doubt that $14.99 a month for a landline includes taxes)
Obviously you've never seen someone new to the internet sit in front of their computer. Lots of people don't know what popups are. Lots of people read some spam not knowing what it is. To these people, a computer is merely an interesting string of sensations.
As long as all hardware components are working and there is connectivity to the machine, it doesn't matter whether the machine is a few miles away or a million miles away.
...and I suppose you have the entire news media providing constant updates to the world about your server reboots.
Actually, it is interesting only because its NASA and it happened on mars. NASA projects tend to have circumstances a bit different from most of us.
Give me a break. Those who work harder and take more photos will find their good luck more often. If hard work pays off in this manner, is it really 90% luck?
Mac graphics were designed around the publishing industry. Gamma 1.8 is useful for output accuracy. I suspect PC the gamma, 2.2, was chosen the image is more attractive on the screen. Recent Mac browsers compensate for the difference (Safari and IE, but not Netscape, i'm not sure about Moz).
As for TV, its just not any standard of image quality. Also, you tend to watch TV in a darker room than you work on your computer - this may account for the brightness differences.
yeah, whoever has been modding (and posting) doesn't know of what he speaks.
Gamma on Macs is traditionally 1.8. Gamma on PCs is typically 2.2. This has to have something to do with the publishing industry as macs had a huge jump on PCs in that industry.
They're not going to sell CAMERAS anymore. And when was the last time Kodak sold a camera that was worth buying? Probably the brownie cameras from waaaaaay back.
I think at some point we need to start modding article text postings as off-topic. Nothing destroys a good slashdot conversation like a return to the main article....it also undermines the slashdotting attempt.
...and therefore my disappointment with hookers :(
i second that
I'm sure you'd feel that way until you find your car reporting -
-Its been parked by the river for an hour
-The radio is playing
-Strangely, its reporting rough, unpaved roads
Apples OS X is the same way.
What the hell do you do to your Mac OS X box? I've never experienced anything like that.
...why this has taken so long?

In the 1800s, "The Standard" way of life for a wealthy white Southerner in the US would include the ownership of slaves.
You're right. Using Windows is like slavery.

Indeed, photography is 10% skill and 90% luck.

...to announce the death of Rob Enderle?
on closer inspection it is revealed to be cubic zirconium which drastically reduces it value at the local pawn shop.
two words: proxy server
Photoshop compensates for this as well as web browsers. So why would this get in the way?

actually, you're right on.
Ryan McGinley, the photographer, is currently hot in the photo world largely due to his somewhat recent show at The Whitney Museum of American Art.
A photograph of his and some text about him: http://www.whitney.org/information/press/104.html
for capturing someone's cross country adventure and turning it into a slow loading web page adventure.
Sorry, but I think you missed the press release.

Uh, you know where you are, right?
Search and seizure without a warrant?
Must be nice to be able to pick and choose the laws that apply in a given situation.
P.S. And no, film is not a viable option, especially long term, considering that major companies like Kodak are going to stop selling film.
I must have missed the press release where Kodak announced that they were going to stop making film.
Digital might be competitive for 35 mm but plenty of photographers need more than that. Nothing on the market can compete with 6x7 or larger formats.
Kodak will be making film for quite a while.
Just because you can't think of one doesn't mean there isn't one.
What if I have a legit reason to copy currency?
People poo-poo this point of view
Poo-poo!
uh yeah.....thats it.
