According to the article, Apple is changing their fee structure so the cost is being passed onto the customer. Besides if you lease a BMW car, $300 for a 3 year lease is more expensive than 1 year free and 2 years @ $80 each year.
I prefer to watch my movies in 5.1 sound instead of stereo, and DVDs offer that to me. Also many, if not all, of the movies I want to catch up on are available on DVD but not in streaming.
I prefer to build personal computers for myself and brother. I know the technology and expansion capabilities when I buy the motherboard and my computers typically last 3-4 years until I feel the need to upgrade. My current PC has a SSD/HDD combo for acceptable speed and storage requirements at a cost I'm content about so I could see my current system being in place until a major component fails (motherboard or cpu). Just a peace of mind I like to have with my personal computer.
Ever heard of PC Chips motherboards? They solder the CPUs directly to the motherboard so you have no chance of upgrading the processor unless you're good at soldering hundreds of pins from a new CPU. I haven't seen any recent computers come with PC Chips boards but they were used because they cheaper.
Children don't have a need for a laptop as they should be enjoying the young years of their life. Staying inside to play FPS/RPG/etc games on a computer for 2+ hours is not healthy and can probably lead to unsocial habits. The family computer is just fine until they get into high school and they need a dedicated computer for school work and other activities. Plus laptops are portable and expensive pieces of equipment and can be prone to damage by moving it from location to location and can be costly to fix.
Does anyone else believe that editors should be forced to click a "Preview" button to see how the actual topic will be displayed before publishing it to the public?
It does say "(Use the Preview Button! Check those URLs!)"
There will never be such a service since those online music stores sign contracts with the music industry and are forced to implement an anti-piracy system. If you want ownership, buy the product from the store.
"where it runs on multiple quad Opterons each with 24 gigabytes of RAM, 10 terabytes of disk space, and a gigabit link to the internet" Can you image a cluster of these...no wait...
Excuse my ignorance but I don't understand the need for a desktop search tool. I can search through e-mail using my e-mail client (or now that I've switched to Gmail, use it's searching ability) or just set all my Internet programs to download all files to a directory (my desktop for convenience). Using Firefox as my default browser, typing google along with my search query will use Google's search engine to find whatever it is that I'm looking for.
I have a Motorola i730 and use myJAL (with a data cable) to upload.mid or.wav files from my computer to my phone. I can easily convert my MP3 songs into WAV format and then have a custom ringtone for free!
If you look at the screen shot, MS AntiSpyware marks the browser as a high level risk and the software advises the user to remove the browser immediately but the 'Recommended Action' is to ignore it. I know all of us who have both the browser and antispyware installed performed a scan just to verify for themselves that the alleged screenshot was true.
Did anyone ever consider that MS AntiSpyware detected a pre-1.0 release of Firefox and alerting the user that their running an outdated copy of the browser (which seems highly unlikely but just a thought)?

I believe the reason why he pulled his right pants leg is so that it doesn't get caught in the gears.

You can't not run on IE You can not not run on IE, which means you can, or was this something the editor overlooked?

All of the links in my daily pr0n-in-your-mail messages go bad if I dont check them every day so they're useless after being read :)
