Teach kids basic safety, since by and large they aren't learning it at home.
Arm them with the knowledge to make good decisions even when they skip the part about making perfect decisions. The alternative ensures they'll do the stupidest thing possible in a given situation.
What parent with an IQ over 60 could possibly do otherwise?
I don't understand this or the earlier related dustup.
What's wrong with scanning the books? Sure, if they later publish without permission the scans or OCRs of the scans or whatever, that's worth getting worked up about. But suing over simple scanning? I don't understand.
What's so wrong with just scanning them? Doesn't the internet archive do basically the same thing? I highly doubt they pay anyone for the privilege -- instead relying on fair use.
Their games are also the most expensive on the android market. Dude, just because it's named "Pac-Man" or "Frogger" and so presumably not some knock-off does not justify a higher price than all other games.
Speak for yourself. Around here we have almost no tollbooths and have instead evolved speed bumps into speed mountains and the courts have clarified that damage to vehicles with low (meaning normal) clearances are not cause for action. Who wants to tell me this is not a conspiracy for the benefit of makers of SUVs?
May I humbly suggest that for locale C, we retain the base-2 prefixes. Then for POINTLESS_PEDANT locale, use SI prefixes. To specify base-2 prefixes without maintaining the rest of the C locales semantics, I recommend GET_OFF_MY_LAWN. Or maybe just an environment variable to indicate DISK_MANUFACTURERS_ARE_GREEDY_BASTARDS with 0, empty or non-existence assuming you have traveled back in time or are living in denial.
My understanding is that the DMCA requires a copyright owner to notify the hosting site of each infringing item. Knowing in general that content is posted without a license isn't infringement.
Viacom is trying to kill the entire possibility of letting the general public post anything at all, for fear somebody somewhere might think they own it. Google's just a convenient target with deep pockets just in case a court is dumb enough to swallow.
If it improves the situation for indie filmmakers, then it can't be bad for the film industry. It may be painful for the entrenched interests, but they should be embracing that pain as a learning tool rather than amplifying it and passing it on to innocent bystanders.
Indeed, and I would also be quite disappointed were wikileaks to suffer a lapse in judgement and reveal operational secrets of the nuclear sort, even were they to acquire such.
The article however cites leaks of activities that could at best be called dereliction of duty and your response to my objection doesn't make the distinction.
Such signed papers do not override one's obligations to the country. Exposing criminal conduct in one's organization is required. The anonymity of wikileaks or any other news organization exists to protect the whistleblower from retribution for exposure of such secrets.
Similarly, "I was only following orders" is not an excuse. A mitigating circumstance important in sentencing perhaps, but not an excuse, and most certainly not a get out of jail free card.
Surely, that would run counter to the US first amendment? What's happened to respect for the First that would let such a plan get beyond any US official's fantasies of power?
As a person who has used hearing aids since age 8, I've never had insurance that covers hearing aids. With many group insurances, there isn't even an option that covers them.
I for one have deep respect for any vendor who implements this idea. By taking all the fun out of the game before I buy it, they'll do a great service to the human race by freeing up time for me to do something with my life.
The problem is that few parts of IT are even remotely engineering disciplines just yet. Maybe start by enforcing accountability for certain embedded applications like controls systems.
all of them???
Disk space is cheap...
They should get a copy of the internet archive while they're at it.

At least we have self-righteous idiot leaders in common.
Of course they were frightened. It was a horror story.
Their initial shock however wore off as soon as they heard one of those frequent interruptions stating it was a radio play.
"PAC-MAN by Namco" shows as costing US$6.99 when I look.

Insurance that covers hearing aids is rare.

In the fullness of time, after suitable reflection, we thank you for your interest but must politely suggest that it would be best we part ways.
