A Clue for you, who invented SystemD, what company does the man work for and who bought the company the man works for? there you go, the dots will connect
Why? The source would be available for anyone with knowledge to patch/fix as the source is open for all to see.. not so with closed source and there lies the problem;)
I have 3 Distros installed all systemd infection free. Slackware, PCLinuxOS and Devuan, all 3 have no problems at all, and it's just nice to use, oh and yeah i do serious work with all 3, my friend on the PClinuxOS kind of things even runs the PCLinuxOS website, forum and other nice things from it. Slackware to keep my hand in the "old" ways of doing things, for example PCLinuxOS you can literally configure everything from the GUI which can be nice to get some things up and running fast, but slack lets my cli knowledge works it's thing to:) oh and well done Devuan for making me think of the old Debian ways:)
Mint is a fine start. also think pclinuxos too, it's actually made to be simple and like mint you can have a variety of desktops
disclamier: pclinuxos user and the person behind the trinity desktop version
I prefer http://trinity.mypclinuxos.com... myself.
Seriously though, I am pissed off at Microsoft for these problems as being the local "go to" guy I'm sick of people expecting me to fix shit that even the Microsoft devs themselves can't seem to. Yes I get paid for it, at the cost though of wasted time spending on stuff I shouldn't have to.
Moan over
Actually and believe me I'm no MS fan, however NTFS is actually along with the kernel of windows are the only 2 things in the whole of windows that's any good, if you want a shit file system, look at macs HPFS which is a dog, and I mean 'fat' as in fat 16,32, like dog. ext4 is fine and has ACLs ala windows too (if you learn how to use them) as well as UID/GID permissions. sheesh some people, yes in the days of NT4, NTFS was crap, now-a-days it's a stable file system as any of them.
PCLinuxOS is still systemd free and no gnome 3 or unity and is stable, very stable:) You just have to get used to no sudo we do things as God intended with a proper root password and su to gain root:P

My cassettes still work, I even have some 8-tracks that play well, for different values of the word "well" I have some cassettes from the early 70's that still play back without drop outs, I guess it's how you look after them, as for optical media, that's a different story early cd's are doing much better than the ones from this century. That goes for dvd's and BR too, however I haven't had a BR fail yet.

Exactly, stop moaning, if you don't want a certain init system, use a distro that does, or move to *BSD life really is that simple, and if you have a separate/home just make sure you set up your user with the same user / pass combination and same GID/UID. It's not like you don't have a choice in the matter
NVM, it's me that should be shot, I read the above as a statement and not a question, and the answer is no, you can't remote to grub(2) so no back spacing, just to note that it was patched before it even made headlines, all you could do is boot a pc and you had to be local, of course from local grub(2) you can gain root by just adding a "1" to the boot stanza and get single user mode. same as safe mode on windows, and you have to be sitting at the pc to be able to do it. As we all know if you get physical access to any PC it's game over.

why bother if u have physical access to a linux box, just reboot it in init 1 instant root. no need to waste hours of ya life installing windows
PClinuxos is more noob friendly than *buntu and faster to boot (pun intended) and NO sysd if that's an issue too.
used to be called XBMC ;)
Brit here, a "git" is actually a bastard of a bastard.

He's a Brit, braining yourself does not mean putting a brain in your head.

If you liked KDE3 you should look at Trinity DE
X-Windows is server / client windowing system so yes it's networked :)
0 it was patched before it became news :P

Analogy, It's like having that Eniac machine except now it's a Quadcore i7 running TB of ssds but with the original eniac caseing
What's the downside?
There is indeed a linux version of the client for Popcorn Time, howver the web version doesn't work for me :) client here : http://popcorn-time.se/
https://www.popcorntime.ws/api... for tv series to work in settings:)

Maybe he was thinking of DVI not DP as DVI seems to be sans audio :) on this ultrabook there is no VGA but I do have HDMI and mini DP :D

Gotcha, I should have remembered that, it's been a long time :D
If it didn't give you admin access in safe mode, how would you fix it? regardless if you're at the pc physically it doesn't matter
