The biggest vulnerability in the powered exoskeleton is the soft center -- that human controlling it that it needs to protect or else it becomes completely non-functional. If only there was some way to protect the operator by putting her in a bunker somewhere, and control the "exoskeleton" by remote control! Then you wouldn't need all that armor, and the entire payload could be comprised of fuel and weapon systems.
Wait... you mean that in Russia and China, the mathmeticians and scientists get all the hot chicks, and they constantly tease the jocks for having "little girly minds"??? I am SO there!
The technology will provide the location of the individual wearing the shoes within 9m (30 feet), anywhere on the planet.
Just as long as they are not in a tunnel, inside a large building, in a canyon, or have any other obstacles around them that block signal from the GPS or block the signal that this device transmits, of course! Why do marketers continue to insist that GPS is some kind of magic technology that works everywhere, and ignore the limitations of technology? This probably won't even work inside some of the nursing homes where Alzheimer's patients normally reside!
Of course they could always take their shoes off. Wouldn't it be much better to prevent them from wandering off in the first place? I know of a great piece of technology that quite effectively keeps them where they can be found. It's called a "leash", and it works pretty well -- at least on my dog! Alzheimer's patients would even be much easier than my dog to train not to wrap it around posts, too!
Why do you need the hosting company to do backup for you when you are creating all your content locally and FTP'ing it up to the server? You only need backup if you are allowing users/customers to modify the state of your web site. Probably 50% of customers are personal pages used to post baby pics for relatives to see. Yes, you should always do backup, but it doesn't logically follow that your hosting company should always do backup for you. The cardinal rule is trust noone with your data but yourself, because you are the only one that does really care about your data.
I have a similar problem. I got married a few years ago, but now thr old lady is looking a little worse for wear, and there are much younger and hotter models avaailable now! But my lawyer tells me I have an implicit "contract", and that upgrading will cost me big bucks! WTF! This is so unfair! They should have warned mme in advance how expensive it would be to trade up! Or maybe they did, but I wwas so excited with my shiny new toy to notice... either way, I'm mad as hell and I' going to bitch and moan until I get my way!
Has anybody calculated the lateral forces exerted on this structure by a stiff ocean breeze? Say, something like 40mph gusts of wind? 'Cause I, for one, don't want to be one of the guys holding onto the guy wires of this overgrown Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon when it decides to make a break for freedom... I'm just sayin'.
The expensive thing about manned space exploration is the added costs of bringing the explorers back. Manned exploration would be cost-competitive with robotic exploration if we just sent astronauts on one-way trips! Any volunteers?
Can I get a grant to research what kind of women pizza delivery boys prefer for casual sex? I already have a voluminous collection of source material in the related area.
Can you imagine the group of "researchers" sitting around watching Bond flicks all day, while continuously giggling, "Can you believe we're getting PAID for this!!!"
Are you trying to say that vomit is vomit, no matter what kind of massively hyped "new media" is used to deliver it? (BTW, what is the address for Mr. Freckles' twitter feed?)
All this does is bribe kids to cram as much information in as possible right before the exam, and I would be willing to bet most forget most of it in a week. Which is a pretty accurate description of how I got through college. Sure, I didn't retain much, but guess how much of what I learned in getting an EE degree I've actually needed for writing software? That's right -- none at all. The degree just proves you are capable of applying yourself and learning, not that you remember everything a professor said in front of a class.
"Number of rapes reported" != "Number of rapes actually committed". This crime is massively under-reported in all countries; likely much more so in countries where it carries more of a stigma.
"logically and by all reason they should succeed"?!? That's bullshit. The ability to do well on IQ tests has never been a valid predictor of success in life. What is the most important predictor of success? Being born to the right parents! Failing that, the ability to delude yourself into thinking you are the best is one of most important ingredients to success. Making the right friends also helps, which is why getting into a "good" school is so important. Your sense of disappointment comes from bad assumptions; you assumed that since academics were so easy for you to master, that everything else in life would be also. It doesn't work that way. Life isn't fair; persistence is frequently rewarded more than excellence, and bullshit is frequently rewarded more than anything else. For many important questions there is no one "right" answer like there was in school.
That being said, you can still make a difference in the world. A "civil servant" who actually cares about helping other people is an anomaly; try your best to be one. Try not to get frustrated by the fact that for most people it is more about CYA than getting tangible results. And, take it easy on yourself... you're only human after all.
No, I agree with the kid, in that there is no such thing as true "genius" only specialization i different areas of thought. Some of us are really good at taking tests, some aren't. This kid excels at academics and is certainly a faster learning than my kid, but I'm sure there are many areas of expertise where other kids could put him to shame -- like identifying the name of all of Nintendo's characters for instance (even my 8 year old can do that!) Einstein in particular was a specialist, in that he would latch on to one thing and focus on it for days. The guy just couldn't multitask; he obviously never drove while talking on a cell phone.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as near as I can figure out, although these motions might make sense for an appeal, they are totally inappropriate for a re-trial. Can the RIAA lawyers really be so ignorant that they can't tell the difference?
If cars and buildings were flying at 30,000 feet, they probably WOULD be hit more often. How many of those meteors burn up in the bottom 6 miles of atmosphere?
If they are "burning up in the atmosphere", how many of them have completely disintegrated before entering the bottom 6 miles of the atmosphere? Airliners routinely travel at 30,000 feet, meaning you stand a higher chance of meteor contact than you do at sea level.
Would an explosion resulted in 10 maintenance notices being sent out that the electrical systems were failing?
What probably really happened is that they were flying over a previously undiscovered island just as it was jumping backward in time, which is why no trace of the airliner can be found...
You say that as if you think it's a good thing! Turing test: FAIL.

Bonus points for the aurora borealis on the horizon if you happen to get lucky at that time of year.
I assure you, if I'm getting lucky, I have very little time for staring at aurora or anything thing else up in the sky!

Typed on an Android G1 phone while sitting at McDonald's... yes, I do better with a real keyboard and a screen I can actually see.

How much improvement in scores is seen if the teacher promises to have sex with the A students?

Likewise, games depicting sexual relations will lead to games depicting dancing... and we ALL know how annoying Dance Dance Revolution is!!!

I've never understood why books are (C) Author, and music is (C) Publisher.
Authors have better agents?

Never before has any slashdot post been more deserving of an "anal-retentive" tag!
