  1. Naming on Intel Names Upcoming Chips · · Score: 1

I don't think it will be clear to average (ignorant) consumers that the Core 2 Duo is the successor to the Core Duo. How many other products put the version number in the middle of the name? Internet 8 Explorer? Play 3 Station?

  2. Re:Oh Good Lord on Nintendo Revolution Renamed 'Wii' · · Score: 1

Honestly, would you ever have thought of that if it weren't for all the Wii jokes? I've never once snickered on mention of a PS/2 keyboard or the PSX.

  3. Budget on Battlestar Galactica Season 2 Premiere · · Score: 2, Insightful

If only Stargate had a budget like Galactica, then we would really see some great sci-fi. As it stands, we have to watch a show that must conserve their gate splash scenes to cut costs.

It still doesn't get any better than Sci-fi Friday.

  4. Re:Is his middle initial really necessary? on NerdTV Coming in September · · Score: 1

Maybe people who have as cool a middle initial as X just like to show it off.

David X. Cohen comes to mind.

  5. Floppy failures on The End of a Floppy Era · · Score: 1

I believe the following experience sums up most people's dealings with floppy drives:

I bought one for $10 in 2000 for a computer I was assembling. Over the course of three years, I probably used it less than a hundred times. One day, I really needed it for some video card BIOS flashing and found that it no longer functioned.

Was it my hundredth use that finally did the drive in? Or was it a result of not using it for long periods of time? I'm sure manufacturers don't worry too much about quality because they know I'll always be willing to fork over another $10.

  6. Distinction on Gear Up For Female Gaming Invasion · · Score: 1

The figures include free games that are accessed via portals such as Yahoo.

Am I the only one that thinks statistics on "gaming" should not include these types of free casual games. At the very least, there should be a separate statistic for games where some form of payment is required. I know a number of women who play these games but would not consider themselves "gamers."

  7. Re:Nintendo on Next-Gen Console CPUs Not Up to Hype · · Score: 1

What I meant was that the titles would continue to be released during the lifetime of the system. It's not like you're waiting a year for the one big game only to be disappointed (e.g. Windwaker). There's always another good title just over the horizon.

Sure playing old games is a feature but it shouldn't be one of the top selling points of the system. If you saw Nintendo's E3 presentation, there was barely even a mention of the Revolution because there's next to nothing to show.

  8. Nintendo on Next-Gen Console CPUs Not Up to Hype · · Score: 1

Whenever people buy a Nintendo console, they're always telling me how great it will be to play old games. What is this obsession with buying clunky hardware just so you can stick a GBA game in your Gamecube and play it all over again.

The only other reason people buy a Nintendo is because of a few first-party titles. Give me a system with good first and third party titles that I can expect to play non-stop for a few years instead of one where I have to wait a year for the next Zelda or Mario to come out.

So when Lord/Master Jamie Reed is challenged by a fellow MP, what's he gonna do? "Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure up the [failed objective], or given you clairvoyance enough to [failed objective]" I thought the Jedi were above petty squabling with governmental bodies. Is it because Jamie's not on the council?

  13. Planes, Trains, and Automobiles on Japan Tests New Bullet Train · · Score: 2, Informative

Train travel tends to be slightly cheaper than planes, but a whole lot safer and more convenient. For visitors, it is definitely your cheapest option to travel by train because you can buy an all-purpose train pass to travel on any lines run by Japan Rail which is basically a monopoly. Even a cross-country train can generally be caught every hour while airplane schedules in Japan are far less convenient for most locations.
