The problem with all of this started, as near as I can tell, in the past 30 or 40 years. TV programs and movies began casting villians as business people and heros were nearly always public employees (teachers, policemen, public lawyers or public hospital doctors). Business people were about stealing, killing and lying.
The socialists are thick in Hollywood. Have been since just about the time you're talking about. Here's a good article about how they got there.
I think you've confused her fiction (hyper-idealized situations and people) and the philosophy of objectivism.
Check it out. I don't agree with half the things she says, or the way she shifts definitions around to meet her needs. I do agree that reason is the sole tool that man posses to evaluate the world in which he lives.
Way back in the ancient times (before they figured out how much revenue they could generate giving tickets) traffic engineers used to use radar guns to help set the speed limits. They were typically set at the speed at which 85% of the drivers were traveling.
1st: 21 century, i couldn't agree more. Marketing has latched onto the completely wrong assumption that 1999-2000 is the change. Most people are sheep and I think that's a global problem.
2nd: 200 miles per gallon. It'd sell every last unit. We may pay a lot less for gasoline here than elsewhere in the world, but we don't think it's cheap. Instead of filling up my tank every 2 weeks, I'd only have to fill it up every 4-5 months. Even a 'tard could do the math on that one.
3rd: Bank balance. It's europe that hoards their money in banks, over here it gets spent and then most people spend some more. The world's economy is propped up on credit card debt. When it runs out, that's the collapse that'll crush us all.
I'm not unsympathetic, I just don't understand. In a normal office (factory conditions are obviously different) what could you do to render yourself unable to use your hands? Is it something a new keyboard could really fix, or a new desk or any new hardware? Give me examples because I am obviously unaware of them.
We live in the most sue happy period and the excessively large awards handed out have just fueled it to new heights. To a very removed observer this just looks like more of the same. The defective part isn't the one most often serviced; it is the squeaky (or in my terminology bitchy) wheel.
Now maybe i'm just lucky or figured out how to type and sue my mouse where my wrists didn't hurt at the end of the day. I've been typing and mousing away for a good 15 years now. I'm sure there are cases where this is needed, but I bet the whiny bitches are the ones who are going to get the most use out of it.
Let me paraphrase (poorly i'm sure) what you said: Let's let Microsoft's competitors listen in on all strategic planning and sabatoge any decision/directions they want to make/take until they are run out of business.
I don't think so. Don't make it so easy to appeal that the decision of the court will never be enforced. Remember this decision isn't supposed to satisfy long held bitterness and hatred against Microsoft it's supposed to benefit the consumer at large.
This one boggles my mind. What the hell could you do to make you're web page accessible to the blind? How the hell are they using the computer in the first place?
You have to have access ramps on buildings, fine. Automatic doors, fine. Braile on shit the blind couldn't get to, fine. But unless there's a braile monitor out there, they're screwed. I wish they weren't but they are.
Shit like this makes the need for tort reform (or removal of idiot panels [juries] from the process) more and more obvious.
It's the video equivelent of how we used to rip audio. You'd press play and then use another program to capture the audio output.
Unfortunately it was damn hard to get what you recorded in that way to sound as good as the CD (this depended on how picky you were and balancing levels and turning any software EQ off).
It'd be the same with DVD. No reason you couldn't use something to capture the screen output to a file, but it's never going to be as good a copy as the bit-for-bit copy available now that the encryption is gone.
The whole thing reminds me of the horrible copy protection schemes for games back in the day. The code wheels, disks with a bad sector, etc. All it does is annoy the paying customers, the pirates broke thru all that shit and disabled it. Same thing here.
That's why it's secret. Get PGP, get a PGP phone or build your own personal encryption device. The lack of oversight really does bother me, but if you get in the puppet master's way, you'll just end up dead from a "self-inflicted" gun-shot wound. -------------- The NSA works for the NSA, they don't give 2 shits about you. Unless you're in their way.
Once again the ignorant write for the ignorant and it somehow it ends up on/. and a guy like me has to comment.;) I dl mp3s all the time, and don't see a lick of pr0n unless I'm looking for it. Once again, THE NET IS NOT THE WEB. If you want filez stay away from the web. It's all about $$$. If you want the good mp3s stick to FTP and don't support the pr0n pushers (BTW they usually have shit on their site if you can even log in after earning them a penny or two). Last BTW: It's the web people, you see something you don't like SHUT DOWN THE BROWSER.
If it needs to be consistant then just dig up a mythology book, or hit the web. (I personally like http://www.pantheon.org/mythica/) I have a site based all around the story of Daedalus, if you spend a little time it can even make a bit of sense. King Minos and Queen Pasiphae for your PDC & BDC. Labyrinth for your firewall. Icarus for a departmental server (I don't like that department much). One recomendation, avoid using names from religions that are still practiced. People are really easy to piss off. I can just see a lawsuit because Brahma is the PDC not Jesus.
I don't like AMD, but because they out-and-out stole their chip designs right up to the Athlon. I'm never one to knowingly give a thief my money so I didn't buy AMD. Along the way I've seen many flakey AMD machines, right up thru their K6 series. BUT... That was then this is now. Don't hold a grudge because your AMD chip back in '95 didn't work right. It was a great argument against AMD then, but it just sounds bitter now. If I ever get to play with an Athlon and can confirm these amazing benchmarks firsthand and can see it run stably; I'm there. This is a new chip created honestly with ingenuity not thinnly vailed theft. To sum up my rambling, the Athlon marks a new era for AMD. Give 'em anohter chance, I'm going to.
First thing I do when I get a pre-built machine is format the drives. Even if I'm doing a corporate install where I'm putting 98/NT on the machine I don't want their install. Most of them are bloated with crappy software and mis-partitioned. Plus it should bring the price down a bit.
For the non-computer people that want e-mail, e-commerce and surfing it's not a NC they want, but a netTV box. All NCs are for is so Sun and others can sell their ASP services. It ain't for the home, unless broadband service gets really cheap and even faster than it is now (do you really want to download netscape from the server everytime you want to run it?). Remember dumb terminals need to connect to some backend to do all the work/storage, so maybe I could use this to put a small terminal in my kitchen and connect it to my servers in my basement, but it ain't for grandpa. The only place I see NCs working is in the enterprise. They have fast networks (or at least can afford to build them), backend machines and woefully ignorant users.
Including me. If this bad boy was stereo, I'd buy one. Then run some CAT-5 from my hub to my stereo and have my 700+ songs ready to keep the party jumping all week long (About 2.5 days before you get a repeat on random play). I was gonna buy an old 486/586 and set it up to do just that, but if we can get this box setero and hook in a remote; we're one step closer to a stereo component every alpha-geek will have to have.
The PC already does it all, and we've seen with Bleem it can play console games just as well. I'll wait for the EMU and just pay for the games, it's the developers that I want my money to go to anyway.
BTW, anyone notice that the list of killer games (mario, zelda, pokemon) are ALL nintendo games.
And the CIA and Army can't operate inside the US either. The CIA just does it, and the Army just trains all the pigs. And the NSA does whatever it damn well pleases. Oh wait... an act of congress says they can't, oh i guess they don't then... puhlease...
The east germans monitored all telephone communications way back in the day. With analog gear at that. So echelon would be no problem for a deep pocket (read mine and yours) organization like the NSA and no accountability to the people for the use of said funds.
Using cypher 18472-62 please send me the co-ordinates to pick up my chinese made nuclear device. The funds are prepared and ready in a Swiss bank account for transfer upon successful verification of the device's functionality. Also, hold my order of anthrax. I'm having problems locating a suitable missle delivery package. If you can provide both, i'll double the original bid.
Nothing was damaged last time either and prices went thru the roof. There was a percieved loss, or enough of one that the guy in pricing decided to jack it up. The non-Taiwaneese followed suit, becuase who can miss out on a change to double the price of your goods and keep selling them.
P.S. It's amazing how many people post before they read the articles mentioned.

USB baby. Add a 4-port hub and 4 USB joys and it's gametime.
Hey look around a bit. Click view and select Scientific. There's your exp, hex to binary converter, etc.
