Very true - when iPad just came out and was hot, my colleague said that in the future we'd see touch surface reaches everywhere in our lives such as TV. Other than maybe smartboard/classroom application, my reaction was "huh"?
I actually thought about the exact same thing: why is there a boundary around voice/data? Based on my rough estimate, the 'voice minutes' translate to very little data.
I do not know much about BBC situation but here in Canada CBC arrangement is fairly similar. Now that for the longest time with Liberal in power or whatever reason, the station has a left leaning tendency. And now Conservative is in power and they're contemplating budget cut for CBC. I can't imagine how it won't have influence on the content in an indirect way.
4:3 and 16:9. Even the cheapo Chinese tabs have significant difference on pricing on those - screen size is bigger and possibly has to do with volume. 7.9" is really 8" - Apple just tries to let people 'compare' them with the Fire/Galaxy but it's really apples/oranges.
Legislation are affected by politics and we all know such fundamental changes could take years/decades. To me, at least for the multinationals, they should sit down together and "set their own rules" among themselves. It may or may not be cheaper comparing with lawsuits/lobbying...etc. but my guess is it would be quicker than a patent reform.
I don't know either but it could be fair. Say if a company is leveraging a technology to make more money, because of the technology (say without it the device just won't work, alternative is not available, can't sell to more people...etc.) then there could be an argument. To the point of 32 vs 64, Apple isn't charging the incremental material cost of 32GB flash, are they?
I am sure buggy whips were sold in millions the first few years when automobiles just came along. They have not destroy it but it's definitely work in progress.
So far I've seen little innovation other than rehashes/dumbed down versions of existing software, just with ads or with 'subscription' hooks and simplified interfaces
Dismissing the fundamental change in personal computing industry by saying "little innovation" and "dumbed down" software, dude if you really want something open and flexible and modifiable and you are such a tinkerer, go build one yourself. And more so, go build an ecosystem on it yourself. It may not be exciting for you but there are plenty of people who uses smart phones and tablets says otherwise. Go back to your cave. Nothing to see here, move along. Otherwise, I challenge you, go start your own open source project to address this market gap here as you've identified.
The most interesting aspect to me is the 4:3 for the mini version. Personally I prefer 4:3.
In any case I think Android is mature enough with JB to be used widely. Apple better come up with something REAL different as the hardware differentiation is narrower and narrower. I've even seen some Chinese Android tablet has retina display.
Very good observation - what's the impact on Touch with introduction of a smaller iPad? My guess is, if there's a mini iPad, it has to be $299 or so... at a premium of other similar Android (that's how apple makes $).
Kickstarter: Non-dilutive, non-repayable financing, beta customers, PO paid up-front....
Now who's the robber/thief?
It can yawn. It can move. Is it life or not?
That's called "Windows 7"? : )

Compare to our Canadian (1/10 population) gun registry it cost up to $2B and scrapped.

That's one - two, I argue that university is NOT primarily meant for job training.

Ah ha - so the onus is on the patent reviewer in this case? USPTO must have reviewed and STILL grant MS the patent.

Please mod parent overrated.
How about use wind to power the engine. Say use the turbine to generate the power to power the turbine... wait a minute.
That's exactly what western democratic capitalistic society is asking for, and it delivers.
This is exactly why the el cheapo Chinese Android tabs (whoever manufacturer name it bears) will take over the bottom end of the market.
With the kind of backing MS has, probably ended up like Xbox.

Of course it's a good dose of PCP... I mean PHP.

.. buy direct or maybe some wholesale? Is such deliberate effort worth the actual cost?
