I wonder sometimes if for the sake of our growth as a species we ought to remind ourselves from time to time that fairness is a human concept and not one mother nature feels any need to uphold. I know I stress less myself when I remember that life is not in the business of living up to our expectations even when innocent people are suffering.

Most of the stuff that is churned out *is* shit and I'm surprised the 'dot has been so hard on someone merely exhibiting a strong purist position. We're all purists! More than likely, everyone here has at least one topic we're known to be a little.. opinionated about.

I'm no expert in the subject matter at hand but it does seem to be difficult to convey subtleties of thought between cultures. Perhaps this helps explain why so much stuff seems to miss whatever it was aiming for. Of course, Slashdot readers aren't a good example of big media's target audience.

The New Zealand Labour government - ostensibly centre-left in political leaning - finds itself somewhat out of touch with its constituency, having furthered some very sinister policies (believe it or not, it is now actually illegal to smack your child for discipline in NZ).

After three terms in office with a sycophantic media burying Labour's political gaffes and providing a pleasant sideshow to distract the great unwashed, they've managed to quietly gut the social structure of what was once a rather nice place to live. It seems as a nation we may have finally woken up to this, making 08 November 2008 a very important day for us indeed.
