I often write my elected national representatives (though they are not there due to my vote:( )and rant about general environmental degradation. Do they have a friend or loved one who lives a truly healthy lifestyle -veg head, orgo, exercises, blah blah blah- that got cancer of some kind? Do they wonder where it came from? How 'bout some legislation to get things back on track?
Evil as the drug companies are, their chemo crap put me not in remission, but cured of testicualr cancer. Now I am monitored for "side effects" of the chemo drugs- like leukemia. The drug companies giveth, and the drug companies taketh away. I love a good conspiracy theory- amazing how many are true. Can't wait to see how this one plays out.
BTW, whats wrong with an "environmentalist" with name like "Kennedy"?
I'm building my 30x50' garage- except for the slab, I'm framing, roofing, wiring the whole thing myself. I'm what I guess "they" call an experienced DIY'er. My money making background is in remote data collection, so all this stuff I just sort of forge ahead and go for it. I rely heavily on the advice of friends and an amazing brother in law, but in the end, I'm the one that has to redo my mistakes and live with what I build.
I think tinkering with wood would be a great alternative to coding.
For resources, other than people, I get alot of stuff off websites experienced tradespeople put up. I have heavy guilt from never contributing the paypal 5 bucks, though. I know when I eventually get my website up about building plank wooden Dory's, I'll never get a dime as Karmic retribution.
Only trolls who KNOW the TRUE TRUTH can make such blatantly misinformed statements.
Example A of how metric is better than english/imperial/merican: Explaining drilling mud weight to a Kiwi one time, he was totally lost in the "pounds per gallon of water" being raised by adding bentonite to make it 9#'s per Gal, so, without even having to pull out a calculator, I said,"You know how water weighs a kilogram per liter?" He said the equivalent of the Kiwi "Duh", and the explanation only got easier from there.
BTW,Why divide a meter by 3, anyway?
Example B: How many tablespoons in a cup? How much does a quart of water weigh? Is it really "pints a pound the world around?" or just pretty close? How much does an ounce of water weigh? does it weigh an ounce? If it did, and there are 32 ounces in a quart, and 16 ounces in a pint, and a pint weighs a pound (but it doesnt really weigh quite a pound, now does it?) it would be easy to say how much a pint weighs, and how much an ounce of water weighs, but they don't even mean the same the thing, even though they sure sound and look like they mean the same thing.
So what don't you get?
Obviously the same thing the rest of Americans don't get, because we STILL don't USE the metric system!!
Lets watch china build these, increase their power supply, do it while reducing their dependence on DIRTY coal fired plants, clean up their air, not need oil, escape the middle east turmoil, and REALLY start kicking ass on the world socio-eco-political scene.
Thats something a strong centralized government can do that we (the "democratically" run US) cannot.
Actually, eating carrots IS the BEST thing. Taking supplements is NOT. A study using just betacarotene was terminated early when it was found to increase cancer in heavy smokers. You say Excess Vit A increased tumor growth. Guess what, just carrots reduced cancer in women smokers. You go here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd= Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10530619&dopt=Abstrac t
to see about carrots and cancer from smoking.
The problem with isolating the supposedly "good" additives is they are also selectively taken up by the cancer cells, and used as antioxidants to protect themselves from free radicals that would damage the growing cancer cell. A study in mice has shown that antioxidant use during chemotherapy actually inhibited the functioning of the chemo. So if you are doing chemo, do chemo, don't sneak behind your oncologists back and do juicing etc at the same time.
And yes, the lady juiced carrots and cured herself of cancer. There are numerous ancedotal stories of people being written off by the western medical community and then curing themselves through any of a number of programs that usually have 5 things in common- no meat, no dairy, no alcohol, no caffiene,no sugar . And also doing lots of live foods. The problem with studying this "weird non-western" way of treatment, is it is hard to do double blind studies with random large population control groups. Ahh, the joys of industrial medicine. The following was lifted from http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/s-s00/recommend.html
Evidence that beta-carotene supplementation is ineffective against cancer and might actually be deleterious was provided by the Alpha-Tocopherol Beta-Carotene (ATBC) Cancer Prevention Study in Finland. In this study of over 29,000 men, mostly heavy smokers, supplementation with 20 mg/day of beta-carotene for seven years significantly increased the risk of developing lung cancer. The CARET (Beta-Carotene and Retinol Efficacy Trial) was conducted in the U.S. with over 18,000 men and women at high risk for lung cancer. This study was terminated early when it became evident that daily supplementation with 30 mg beta-carotene and 25,000 IU vitamin A was increasing the rate of lung cancer.

WMD, hmmmmm..... Oh yeah, the reason to go to war. (and that Saddam was a bad man- certainly not for oil!)
"Some people say" that the WMD's were moved to Syria before we got there. Debka.com, an Israeli mouthpiece with an international slant on things Middle East, said back in January 2003 that Iraq was shipping its WMD's to Syria and hiding them in farm fields. Debka is pro Israel, and pro US when it suits them. They also said Syria was next after Iraq, and then Iran- looks like they got those two backwards.(or not-see below)
On the other hand, a recent CIA analysis (the Duelfer report) of Saddam 's interviews in prison say he was playing a shell game and pretending to have WMD's. Check out this page http://www.worldaffairsboard.com/archive/index.php/t-956.html
to yet ANOTHER forum for discussions about the philosophy of "I know that you know that I know that you know that....".
"Special to World Tribune.com GEOSTRATEGY-DIRECT.COM Monday, October 18, 2004 Charles Duelfer told the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this month he could not rule out Saddam's transfer of Iraqi missiles and weapons of mass destruction to Syria. Duelfer, an adviser to the CIA, said at the Oct. 6 hearing that a large amount of material had been transferred by Iraq to Syria before the March 2003 war. "A lot of materials left Iraq and went to Syria," Duelfer said. "There was certainly a lot of traffic across the border points. We've got a lot of data to support that, including people discussing it. But whether in fact in any of these trucks there was WMD-related materials, I cannot say." "
Now THAT's good intelligence. We know what we know, we don't guess. We leave THAT to the FOX news "reporters". The upshot being that the report clearly stated that there were no WMD's to be found, but they could have left the country.
What I want to know is when will the Bush Admin pull out the card that says we have to go into Iran or Syria to find WMD's?
Debka.com says this: (these are the last 2 of 9 demands the US supposedly sent to Syria.)
8. Hand over to US or Iraqi authorities 55 top officials and military officers of the former Saddam regime, who are confirmed by intelligence to be established in Syria and running the guerrilla war in Iraq out of their homes and offices.
(An address, telephone number and cell phone number were listed beside each name).
But the punchline was in the last demand.
9. Syria had better make sure that none of the Kornet AT-14 anti-tank missiles which it recently purchased in large quantities from East Europe turn up in Iraq. US intelligence has recorded their serial numbers to identify their source. DEBKAfile's military sources add: Because he cannot afford to buy advanced fighter planes and tanks, Assad purchased massive quantities of the "third generation" Kornet AT-14 anti-tank weapons.
Just in case any are found in Iraq, General Casey, commander of US forces in Iraq has already received orders from the commander-in-chief in the White House to pursue military action inside Syria according to his best military judgment.
Intersting- in spaceweather.com, their explanation of solar flares the X scale is 1-9. I was thinking it would be logarithmic like the modified richter earthquake scale. However, googling does show larger solar flares. the X scale is just >10-4 in watts/meter square
so how big IS X28? Is it.0028? as a X9 would be.0009
The problem with people is we only live 72.4 years- if you're a Japanese female (please don't check that statistic- it could just be a damn lie).
The earth, "SOME PEOPLE say" tm-FOX News Network, is 4.5 billion years old. Even if Global Warming is happening, the worst we will see over the next 1000 years will only be one of those squiggles on the geologic climatology chart. The glacial epochs of the Holocene and Recent are not the max peaks of climate fluctuations either. You think we have seen unusual phenomena? How about a volcanic basalt flow the size of eastern washington, southern Idaho and north eastern Oregon? (Oh, that's right, it happened already! Oh , and there is one 10 times that big in India)
Yes, the problem is, it's not in your imagination- most people have a hard time imagining how big true 100,000 year and 1,000,000 year events can be.
That's what I thought too, but no. It seems dark energy is stuff we can't see using traditional electromagnetic methods. It seems that vacuum energy may be one of the sources of dark energy- there is energy associated with the vacuum of space. If you place 2 metal plates parallel to each other, there is an energy potential between them caused by the vacuum of space(Casimir effect). Kip Thorne describes how to make a time machine this way with sufficiently large plates. (sufficiently large is pretty fu***n big)
Also, you may have read that in deep space subatomic particles pop in and out of existence- this is part of the dark energy, too, and somehow related to vacuum energy. For a mildly technical discussion go to

Also, I recommend Brian Greene's "The elegant Universe" for a superb laymans terms description of the state of knowledge and confusion in astrophysics.
Bert Rutan proved crazy rich guys can get it done. This reminds me of the early flight days before war got the planes big enough to be really commercial. Sure it would be easy to shoot this statement down, but there ARE parallels. Once someone proves it can be done, the next steps make it easier and cheaper. If no money guys like us (speaking for myself)really want to go into space, and would sacrifice a half year or so of pay to go there, what can 500 million dollars do without government waste? I see it happening. I just hope they get to it in the next 20 years so I can still go (65 in 2024)!
So, a crystal clear picture of crap will be ready by 2009? I can hardly wait.......
Yeah, thats why boyscouts die or cause numerous Search and Rescue call outs every year in Utah, because they are so organized.
