I agree if the iPod is just for for a bootable HD. It a very Expensive as you can get a 40 Gig portable HD for Less then 1/2 the Cost.
In Argument to the advantage of a Bootable CD or DVD is you cant write to a CD. If you need to backup your Data and wipe the drive for repairs you still need another Drive.
What most people dont realize is that it cost Apple a lot more money to have retail stores than to have other vendors selling Apple product in their stores
Apple selling to others Less profit for Apple No store overhead
Apple selling for themselves more Profit for Apple Hugh store Overhead and employees to boot
The locations Apples is using are also Very High Dollar
I hate to say this but Microsoft didnt screw Apple over Windows 1.0 Scully's people (Jobs wasn't with Apple at the time) did that on his own by leaving a hugh hole ing the contract with Microsoft for using the Mac UI
Apple is just trying increase their ground in the market and has a long way to go

Everyone is going on about how small the Mac Mini is but we should be looking at how Small the iMac G5 is just 2 " thick and it has 3 fans and still very quite and its 64 bit
this is an amazing computer The main bulk of the iMac is the with and height of the screen 17" that is of top quality that would cost you about $450 online to get the same quality
It comes with the keyboard and Mouse (I know its a one Button Mouse Stop Bitchen)
All this for $1300 bucks take it out of the box plug it in to the wall and it works
No Im not saying you can't build it cheaper and or Faster but it cant be easier then that
You cant buy a complete System CPU Monitor (High Quality Not a Cheapo one) Keyboard and Mouse
I'm not even going to add the Software that you get with it just look at the Hardware
I hate to say but you can a top of the AMD for under $500 with everything and a High end Video card Granted there is no SW But if your Building you own PC you have all the SW you need including your OS of choice This option is not for Everyone out there to try to do maybe 20% of the PC owners build there own (this is a guess I have no Idea how many built there own PCs)

The Mac mini is for the PC geek that has wanted to see what the Buzz is about Mac OS X now they can do it pretty cheep
The Mac mini is for the Family that is tired of Windows and wants a try at Mac OS X and have the monitor keyboard and mouse
3. The only Posts that should be here if you have used and are proficent with at least 2 of the OS's mentioned
4. If you cant live with the Mouse you don't belong posting here because your not Productive
5. I hate to say this but if your reading/. all the time your not Productive either
I am proficent with Mac and Windows have used both for many years but prefer Mac
Now as far as Task bar you have the Dock which is better than the task bar The name of the Web site shows up when you hover you mouse over the mimimized window.
Just like in windows there is alt Tab there is Command Tab much easier to switch Applications If your Stupid enough to use Exploder and not use Safari(on the Mac) or Firefox (Both Mac and PC) for "tab browsing" (even in Windows) you should pack your computer up send it back to the store.
If the windows are all open and you want to find a certin window Use one of OS X coolest features Expose F9 does all the windows, F10 does the for most Application F11 clears everything away. Trust me you've never see it in Windows.
Any Application you frequently use can be stored in the Dock for quick easy Access
BTW the dock will also fit a ton more things the the task bar will before it becomes unreadable
and if you really want more power try Launch Bar just type
But then again if you really wanted to be Productive you wouldn't notice that much of a difference in the MAc and Windows
I prefer Macs for many reasons I never tried Linux so I cant comment except for what Ive heard and I wont put hearsay here I have to use A PC at work but I have a Mac Mini with a KVM and develop a FM Pro Database on the Mac as I can get 2 times as much done then on the PC
Try Doubleclick or uControl for Mac they allow you to change the Macs keys to what your used to on your Windows machine easy to find at versiontracker.com

The only problem I see with this is the Hard drive in the iPod is not made handle the Heat from using it as a System Drive.
I have a Full blown OS X System and it has all the Diag SW and system Updates needed in case any of my computer Hard Drives go out on me as well as a copy of my Documents this uses up about 20 gigs of my iPods 40 gigs This is only in case of emergency as the iPod get very hot when you boot or run SW from it.
If I go to a friends house and they need help I'm ready to just connect my iPod and do what needs to be done.
Something You have to learn to do is read between the lines with Apple They hardly ever say "NEVER"
Apple just don't do something until they can do it right
As far as the Media Center never being a reality just means Apple isn't happy with they have right now
iPod Video may be in the works but it is to much like the crap thats out there now

My sugestion to you is to take the Mac Mini back and for about $600 more buy a G5 So you can use that Software your now have collecting dust on your shelf

Apple must be backing away from Firewire asa the Mac mini only has ONE Firewire 400 port
This is my understanding of Firewire compaired to USB 2.0
USB 2.0 has a through put of 480 but this is Bursts
Firewire has a through put of 400 this is a constant speed
Firewire is like driving down the highway at 100 mph
USB 2.0 is like driving down the highway at all difference speeds you can get up to 120 mph and as slow as 60 mph
USB 2.0 is great for many things but not everything Video must get constant speeds of 100 or better which only firewire can give
Apple will never give up on Firewire on the higher end Macs you get Firewire 800 USB couldn't keep up This will be really helpful for HD video that will send hugh chucks of data nto you Mac
My guess the name would be iTVS (iTheater Video Store) as iMovie is in Apples name scheme. Apple would have a field day with this using Quicktime 7 and the new standard H.264 video.

If you buy No name Ram for your Mac you have a 50 50 chance it wont work
Use Name brand Ram you have a 99% chance it will work(and if it doesnt work its a bad stick)
This is one of the reasons MS has such a hard time to get there SW to work with all the possible configurations
Apple doesnt want to give their customers the same qualitity that MS gives their's (Poor)
