this is why people should be signed up to "verified by visa" or "mastercard secure", where even if you do have all the details to someones debit or credit card, you still dont know their secure password that they are required to use to make an online purchase.
why is this organisation designed to protect linux and not open sourced software in general? seems like the linux community are looking to build their own patent portfolio the easy way to shore up some funds by taking action against others.
it is so horrible that microsoft are bailing out a bankrupt businss buy buying assets from them for more than what they are worth... allowing the company to pass the money down to employees that have lost wages... i cant think of anything worse
i do realise that, and, no, that isnt ironic, please look up the word irony and stop using it incorrectly. also, im not a GPL moron, i hate the GPL, i actually thing the GPL is a non-free licence has it places more restrictions on a piece of software than an EULA. im a BSD guy. so suck on that
"shall we port truetype to mac, or let the idiots have crappy looking fonts?", "hmmn, i cant really be arsed porting truetype to a crap operating system", "hey, guys, check this out, someone has already done the hard work, and its free source too. that means our product will look good, mac users wont feel left out and we can all look cool and get some free publicity by using free software"...
Canonical do this and it seem to be fine, but if microsoft where to do this, they would be back up infront of the EU being fined hundreds of millions again and it would be the worlds biggest uproar. Gotta love a world of double standards
so rather than a hole, its more a forced proxy? a user who knows your password, is decrypting your traffic, and re-broadcasting it with different content... if this user has your password, you need to have a think about who you give your password to
it doesnt matter what licence the templates are or what licence the plugins are as long as they are a GPL compatible licence such as MIT or BSD or Apache.
the real reason we hear more about it and hear of more of them every day is because they are the media topic of the moment, just like when northern rock was in trouble, suddenly, all the banks where in trouble and everyone took their money and caused the financial meltdown.
in short, this sort of thing isnt happening more frequently than it previously was, its just being reported on more
Google Picassa is actually quite good at everything you asked for, and, it has face recognition, so once you tag one face, it generally recognises most of the images of the same person for you.
if you wrote the software using the employers time and resources, its their project and you had no right to decide on the licence without their consultation anyway. if you wrote it on your own time and resources and you decided that the GPL was the licence to go with, you have a conflict or interests in bringing that software into your employer. the only real way to get around this is to have two seperate branches of the product, the closed product for the employer and the open source gpl version that you produce in your own time
he must be suing at&t too, since their cell tower puts out FAR more electromagnetism than some guys phone. while hes on that, he should sue the earth its self for putting out such a strong field, or the sun, or himself, since he himself generates a small field. as does his tv. his radio. his car. pretty much anything made of metal, or has metal in it and uses some sort of electricity.
"if you modify your console, and try to play online, your CONSOLE will be banned, you can simply go and buy a new one and your live account will work fine on a new one" these are the exact words every site says that i have found that give a tutorial on modding an xbox 360.
and plainly, the hobbyist isnt the one being victimised here, the hobbyist wouldnt mod their console to run homebrew on it, then play pirated games online, if your doing that, thats all your doing.
this is simply a cash grab, because everyone knows that a settlement is cheaper than going to court
this is what i read "Firefox To Replace Menus With Office Ribbon", this is what I heard as i read it "Firefox To Replace Menus With Office Ribbon then in three years time, Firefox will claim it did it first when IE9 goes down the ribbon route and sue Microsoft for using a GUI feature Microsoft actually created"
all the average user wants is to chat via live messenger, check their hotmail account, look at facebook, and check how badly their ebay listings are doing... they generally couldnt give any less of a toss about everything else that is going on
the thing is, hes right. all companies are doing when they are trying to stop pirates is presenting them with a new challange. the way to stop, or at least curb piracy is do what dvd's did, be cheap. i bought about 5 dvd's from asda about 2 hours ago because they were all good, and they all cost less than £7 each, one was £3. im sure the companies involved are still making money from these dvd's, infact, im sure they are making more, because when a dvd cost so little, it makes it not worth the time of downloading it.

I know why the developers thought this would be a good idea. A feature this mental would be sure to get them free publicity on slashdot
...whats the point...
