Consider that both China and India, the worlds two most populous nations, have reasonably widespread internet access -- though perhaps not in all areas -- then you have a big chunk of the worlds population with access. Factor in large portions of the Middle East, Pakistan, Lebanon, Israel, to name a few and you have most of the World's population with access.
We Westerners need to get over the concept that we are so advanced and the rest of the world lives in caves and reads via stone tablets.
Blindness in the third world is often easily preventable. A diet with enough vitamin A will stop a child going blind. Cleaner water and food, and better living conditions could help too.
Unfortunately, once blindness has occurred in these cases, it's often irreversible.

Yep. I run a small gaming blog and I'm currently getting about 75 spam comments, some of them over a hundred lines long, every 8 hours or so. I use the Akismet service and that blocks nearly all of them, so I don't need to use Captcha. Every now and then a few get past Akismet and I have to moderate them, but it's not really a big deal.
The annoying this is that I have to look through the caught spams in order to weed out false positives. Admittedly, I don't have to many of those, but I still have to check.
I do have Captcha on the forums though. Gotta wonder if that's why noone has signed up!
Yep. You're right that a government needs to be accountable - in the least case to its own citizens.
I was thinking along the lines of international accountability.
For example, Australia is a sovereign nation. What we do within our borders is our own business. The US or any other nation for example doesn't have the right to force us to comply to it's wishes. The US government, I'm sure, feels the same way about its own sovereignty, and has said so.
But if Australia started to interfere, police, or otherwise meddle in the affairs of other nations, then we should be accountable to some other body. It's not enough in this case to be accountable solely to our own citizens since parochialism often trumps common sense and rational thought. There needs to be an authority than can police the police - otherwise we have a police state.
The interesting thing about policemen (at least in free and democratic societies) is that they have some form of authority above them. There are rules and regulations, police chiefs, politicians and court systems that tell them what they can or cannot do.
However, the US has consistently refused to be accountable to anyone but itself. That's fine for a nation, but it's not okay for a policeman.
My guess is, if he wins the nomination, someone will make an assassination attempt just prior to the November election. There's just too many groups out there to whom Obama would be a threat, both philosophically and economically, and not just the neocons either.
For one thing, there are still large racist groups in the US who would have members quite happy to take a shot at Obama. I would think there are some large business groups in the US who would be quite happy to see it happen.
I was waiting for it! I also must be black because I think blacks should have equal rights. I must be female because I think they should be able to vote. I must be Christian because I think they should be free to practice their stupid religion. I must be gay because I think the sexual activities of consenting adults is none of my business. I must be a skydiver because I think people should be free to practice dangerous sports. And yes, obviously, I must be criminal because I think everyone has a right to due process.
So. Are you or aren't you?
Do you think Scientology is a stupid religion?
I ask because your answer carefully avoided answering the question. Much like a politician does on a TV interview when he is on the spot.
The Marcabian race of aliens planting invisible satellite dishes on Earth to transmit false thoughts into our heads actually happens, and we evolved from space clams.
Sorry. You're completely wrong about that. The satellites and dishes are actually the property of Major League Baseball. The MLB just wants us to think we're highly evolved space clams so that we'd more receptive to wearing baseball caps without the tinfoil inserts.
don't remember Chrysler off the top of my head, but I know BattleTech has GM (not to mention Nissan and Mitsubishi) making weapons and battlemechs in the 31st century.
That's not so far from reality now. Some of the big auto makers also produce military vehicles like APCs. It's not much of a stretch to see them producing hi-tech motorised battlegear far in the future.
If you mean tomato sauce. Sure. We do consume quite a lot of it. But, really, it's not all that different to ketchup. A slightly different taste from what I can remember.
I wouldn't say the entire reviewing industry is corrupt.
I've reviewed a few games on my blog, http://stroppsworld.com/, and would like to think I've given a reasonably fair assessment of the games I've reviewed. For instance, I marked Hellgate: London down strongly for the bugs and crashes in the multiplayer game, while giving the much less problematic single player game a higher score.
There are plenty of smaller players like myself out there, who honestly put down their impressions. Would we take graft for good reviews? Maybe some would, but the smaller players have more to lose than the big review sites. It's hard to get readers, but much easier to lose them.
If you're finding that you can't trust reviews on the big sites like Gamespot, then track down the blogs that do give their honest impressions.
Nah. By 2038 we'll have Mr Fusion for all our energy needs.
In fact that should be by 2015. We'll have flying De Loreans by then too!

There really ought to be a 'didn't get the joke' mod.
You get great speeds from a gambling site? ;-)

Lucky it's not Uranus where these 'hydrocarbons' were found.
Otherwise there would already be a proposal to go out there and drill it.

Oh. I don't know. Maybelline would probably work quite well in the Blood Elf areas. I suspect both the male and female Belfs would be interested.

Sour sauce? Not sure what that is.

How much ketchup do Americans use every year?
Who is doing the rectal probing?
Yeah. It's 25 bases away from Area 51.
The problem is keeping up with them as they bounce along.
Don't you mean the Emperor's pubic hairs?
He is after all, naked.
How about Australia?

Skeletons reproduce by jumping each others bones.
Of course, Lexx wouldn't be an RTS.
It would be an adventure game. The adventure mainly consisting of trying to get into Xev's pants.
Those are the assteroids.
The crime rate isn't the only thing that would skyrocket. So would the birthrate!
