Yet another example where the punishment does not fit the crime. You're willing to take away 10 years of some punk kid's life because him and his friends went out one night, got a little toasted, and painted somebody's garage?

Give me a break. That's so insane I can't even fathom it. Imagine 10 freakin' years of your life, 10 YEARS gone, just like that, because you did something stupid and relatively harmless. Insane!!

If you REALLY want to punish people do it properly. Chain the fucker to the garage, give him some paint thinner and a toothbrush. Don't let him leave until the graffiti is gone.

I guarantee you he won't make graffiti again, the garage would be clean, and our prison systems wouldn't be overflowing with people who SHOULD NOT BE THERE.

If they want people to stop blocking advertising, they have to make it less obnoxious and more usefull. Until that time, well, screw them.

Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everybody and that is exactly the problem. Linux developers get things working just well enough, that if you have the right hardware, and the right amount of tinkering things will work for you. Hell, you may even be one of the lucky few who have the exact same setup as the original devs and don't have to tinker at all.

Unforutnately, for the rest of us, I have better things to do with my time that mess around with asoundrc files. All I want is for every freakin program to properly output over my SPDIF channel. Is that really too much to ask for? Apparently it is, and I've almost switched back to windows on numerous occasions because of this.

In fact, the ONLY thing keeping me on Linux right now is MythTV. If it wasn't for MythTV, all my servers would probably be OSX by now and my Media box would be Windows.

Microsoft is pulling the trigger way to early. The current systems have at least another good solid year in them, and a year of additional development can make a helluva difference in quality for the new systems.

As it is, it looked more like the transition from Sega Genesis to Sega 32x than from Sega Genesis to the PlayStation/2, and that's not a good thing.

    fedora.us?

    Linva?

And a bunch of others. Problem is, I don't know which ones are trustworthy, which ones are official, and which ones are reliable. I'm constantly forced into using others than the official RedHat mirrors because RedHat is missing MANY valuable packages (not the least of which is MP3 support).

Second, try installing FC3 w/KDE instead of GNOME. It doesn't work so well. In fact, it ALWAYS defaults to loading XVWM which is idiotic. If I have KDE installed, I certainly don't want to default to XVWM, and I shouldn't have to go find some obscure config file buried deep in my system to change that.

Those are just a few of the many many problems I've had with Fedora Core 3 so far (clean install on a system that has been running Debian with no major issues).

I've recently tried SuSE for the first time, and so far it's much more polished and reliable than Fedora. I've also used Debian extensively, and even though Debian isn't as polished (i.e. pretty looking), can't seem to get a stable release out, and can't upgrade to Xorg for some stupid reason, it's still in a league of it's own when it comes to community based Linux distributions.

I'll try Fedora again with Core 4 comes out, but right now Core 3 has left a sour tast in my mouth (so did Core 1 when I tried that).
