..my server's in the UK, so does that mean it's european? Or just where they send money to (Canada, in my case)?
I don't make any significant amounts of money though, so I don't think there's much fraud that could occur;-)
Don't call it stupid game design, it's far easier to not need to handle that. MMORPGs suffer from the same effects when the client is allowed to do more than it should. Ideally, all communication exists of queries from the client (I want to move to x, y), but this takes far too much work on the server's part to make it worthwhile for smaller games (eg, public/private servers run by the community). Yes, it is true that it's a bit of laziness on the part of the programmers, but having the server handle everything needs a lot of resources.
If you put a higher resolution on the general average of TV screens (say, 24-32"), it will not significantly improve image quality. If you increase the size of the screen without increasing resolution..well we all know it looks like poop.
When Slackware 11.0 comes out, it'll use the 2.6 kernel as default. It looks like Pat is still keeping 2.4 support built in, so it's similar to what 10.2 is - built for 2.4, but contains full support for 2.6. Now it's built for 2.6 but still supports 2.4, in case your hardware really requires it.
I've used Auditor extensively in the past year or so, and played around with Slax. Slax is buggy and definitely lacking polish, but it's modular system of scripts and packages make it perfect for a combination of whoppix and Auditor. Now if only proper ndiswrapper modules were included...
I also have this laptop, although my batteries last from 1 hour under full CPU load, wifi, screen backlight up, etc, and about 4.5 hours with everything turned down. SpeedSwitchXP and its related program can control your speedswitch and fans, which can help control your system.
My battery has 65Wh according to its label.
Go ask your bloody network admin(s) what it's like. Much better responses, and you might get to help out, etc. Stripping cat5 is always good slave labour..
Tell me again why you don't need IPv6. Only, this time, say how you're going to meet these criteria whilst you're at it.
Well, it's the classic argument that everyone's happy with the "make do" solution that "just works". People are stupid and lazy as a whole, and don't want to spend money to convert;-)
If a game doesn't work with a firewall, it's really the firewall's rules that aren't adapted to the game. If the maintainer doesn't want to allow it, fine. If they do, then they lack control/knowledge of it.
It already is - a lot of small (or large...) open source projects need as much help as they can with documentation. With that usually comes troubleshooting and a FAQ, which wikis are excellent at. This allows people needing tech support to get it.
The EMP wouldn't be nearly strong enough to do that. It wouldn't be advisable to be running such a unit nearby, but I've stuck magnets on hard drives without ill consequence (sure, they're old 256mb drives, but there was no data corruption).
The one thing that stood out for me is education of your employers. Get them to know the value of what you do by...teaching them..somehow.
Ok ok, so maybe that's easier said than done. But if they're only looking at the bottom line (money in, money out), you won't get the respect that one deserves..
I like to think that laptops are pretty efficient at being small but not being limited computational-wise (relative to, eg, mini-itx). Running a fairly quiet system isn't impossible;-)
..except the common malware will install an IRC bot client and joins a botnet. Then it's a bigger issue as the computer is used as a proxy, DoS node, and bounce point for attacking larger servers.
Excuse my ignorance, but how many connections are "high latency, low bandwidth"? Dialup? Slow latency. Broadband? High bandwidth. Was it made to be only used in 1000mbps (or fiber) offices or something?

They're called tablet notebooks or tablet PCs :-P
Sure, the TFA didn't miss anything, but I was referring to the slashdot article.
Guild wars is free to play per month, unlike EQ2, WOW, etc.

Aye, they can't even ship it continental either, ie..Canada.
Fuck 'em indeed.
I think you meant lower-level language

It's a masturbatory activity, and it would be better if people put down the controller and went outside.
But even if the teenagers/youth aren't playing the game, they're still masturbatory.

A few weeks ago, my mother asked me what a popup was after talking with a friend. ;)
I felt I had accomplished something

Alright alright, cheers. I was thinking of high latency meaning..short travel times.

How does one escape the screensaver?
Just like any other screensaver. Move the mouse or type a key.
