Why not put both into /boot and add both to your bootloader? There are lots of tutorials for doing that, for 'testing' in case a newly compiled kernel doesn't work.
I have this on my Slackware -current computer. A vanilla 2.4, vanilla 2.6.10, and compiled 2.6.10 which I use and have had no issues with. I plan on compiling 2.6.13 soon, to keep up to date with bug fixes and improvements.

I was introduced with those games, and Reader Rabbit is a very good series. Same with Operation Neptune, an old DOS game where you would pilot a submarine and 'shoot' sea creatures with ink pellets which would make them possible to pass momentarily. At predefined areas in each level, you had to answer questions that had something to do with your mission - if fractions math was turned on, then you could get something like "If you use 15 1/2 gallons of water per day, and have 220 gallons, how many days until a refill is needed?".

The Dr.Brain series of games are fun too, and mainly work with just puzzle solving than with numbers and vocabulary.

  6. GM on Best Language for Beginner Programmers? · · Score: 1

My first 'real' language I learned was C++, but what led me to it was GameMaker (www.gamemaker.nl). It's a program designed to make games, but once learned you can create really quick apps (much like VB's RAD principle). GM is OOP-based, teaches a lot of things like GUI creation and making the back-end, and leads well into higher languages. It follows C-style syntax, but it lacks power, compilation speed, and flexibility..thus people will want to progress to different and better languages :)
It's meant to be an easy game creation tool, and it does its job well.

  12. Re:who's electrolysing water? on New Way to Make Hydrogen · · Score: 1

Hmm...releasing hydrogen from coal. Coal is formed of mostly carbon and hydrogen, correct? That would mean that lots of carbon would be released too, which has to go somewhere. If it's burned it'll become carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
Of course, they could always strap a pencil-lead-making-facility on to the side of the factory and convert the carbon to graphite. "Coal; Now creates power, hydrogen, and pencils!"

  13. Wow. on New Way to Make Hydrogen · · Score: 3, Interesting

This is a very signifigant step up to using hydrogen as a fuel source, although we're still a ways away from using fuel cells as TFA states.

Hydrogen is expensive to make and difficult to store.
You might want to check out http://unitednuclear.com/h2.htm, which is their R & D page. They have been working on hydrogen powered vehicles in a much more sensible method for the short-term: just convert gasoline engines to run on hydrogen. They use a solar-powered electrolysis station (though they do say their current models are too slow) to get hydrogen from water. It's then transfered into metal-hydride tanks in your vehicle, which is a brilliant way to store it. Heating elements inside the tank release the hydrogen, and very little modification needs to be done to the engine. If the tank is cut and burned, the hydrogen is still released slowly enough to just smolder.
This is a neat method, since most people think of hydrogen powered cars as electric vehicles that run off of fuel cells.
Sadly, it isn't available for diesel vehicles due to the lack of a spark plug.
