Having just watched his March 2008 HBO Special, he's certainly not, "smiling down at us." I think he's got better things to do now,...
Jeebus, though! Tim Russert is barely in the ground and then the greatest comedy legend of all time goes belly up! This is turning into a lousy month!
Carlin was certainly one of the best. I can remember seeing him at ODU back in the early 1990s ('93 or '94?). He was as funny then as his recent tours today. The world will be a different place without him. R.I.P., funnyman!
They didn't exactly "quit"; "cashed out" would be a more appropriate description. They were all early investors in Microsoft stock; basically every single person in that photo made a metric assload of money from the stock alone. None of them ever has to work for a living, ever again.
Perhaps Youtube should look into some of the most popular videos uploaded to their site. For example, if lots of people want to upload short 2-3 minute clips of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report to Youtube, maybe that says something about their popularity? So, instead of deleting it due to copyvios, maybe they should try a little harder to sign a deal with Viacom to get those shows hosted, with ads. That'd solve two problems right there -- less people uploading the copyrighted material, and more ads for them.
I suspect he will. But he's going to have to twist it in such a way that doesn't make him look like he's copying McCain,... Perhaps he'll call for increasing nuclear power while also allocating more money for physics education and research spent towards developing nuclear fusion?
I got a bad feeling about this . . .

Like all of a sudden, CNN's gonna pick up on this story, and start talking about "nerd caves",. ..
No, they're not. The file I have installed the full 3.0, and doesn't say anything about "release candidate" anywhere in the software. It's the full version.
1. Finish final version of Firefox 3.0 and announce its release.
2. Announce to the world that they want to set a world record for most downloads of a piece of software in a single day.
3. Post #2 to slashdot.

I agree. Most true, seasoned, and well-educated IT guys generally know what they're doing, and don't make mistakes. What should be discussed here are the most common mistakes by guys like Bob in the fifth cubicle on the right that was promoted to "head IT guy" because either (a) he was screwing the office manager who put in a good word to the head boss for him or (b) somebody heard him talking about "computers" around the water cooler and the company needed somebody to babysit their systems (most likely, it's (b), because he's probably more of a nerd than a true geek, and therefore won't be screwing anybody, except the users under him).
Either that, or we should be discussing the boneheaded shiat done by lusers that IT guys have to clean up after. But that's probably already been done before around here, ad nauseum,...
Well, I am a "geek" and I still do own a VCR, though I don't really use it, other than to feed my PC into the TV to watch videos from the internet there. Most modern VCRs don't require manual time setting anyway,... they get their time from local PBS stations automatically.
I never really understood the purpose of "buying carbon offsets". To me, it's just a total advertising gimmick. I mean, people aren't actually changing their behaviors and lifestyle choices to live a more environmentally-friendly life. It's basically just a way to say, "Fine! Go ahead and keep polluting the earth and destroying the ozone! But as long as you give lots of money to , it's all ok!"
being said that they may evolve to feed on whats in abundance in their surroundings, could you feed them something that will make em' shit something out that will work in my gas tank?
Um, actually, that's been done. Yeast have been producing ethanol from sugar for how many years now? With very little modification, virtually none if you have a FFV, ethanol will work fine in your gas tank,...:-)
Didn't Trey and Matt make a South Park episode about this? Yup; thought so. ;-)
"No. Let's play Global Thermonuclear War." ;-)
So basically, ICANN is trying to make money off of people trying to make money putting ads and spam on the internet? Brilliant!
"Yes, this is horrible. This idea."
We can't even get real intelligence to work in this country yet, and you think we have a shot at artificial intelligence?! Ha!

I stand corrected. Apparently, Hulu has already beaten Youtube for the Colbert Report,... ;-)

Thanks! This link was nice and fast. Downloaded smoothly.

I, for one, welcome our new Super-Earth Overlords!

In Florida, CmdrTaco would be telling Sergey Brin to get off his lawn, man.
