Discovered his lecture on the internet late last year just as I was moving to Pittsburgh. It's quite an interesting and inspiring story. He was a remarkable individual. Rest in Peace, friend.
You'd think if somebody's writing an article about a Christian, religious topic, they'd use the BC/AD format anyways. I've usually only seen CE/BCE used in secular contexts, and 90% of that use is observed solely on Wikipedia,...
I'll disagree here. Doing a typing tutor or course is a complete waste of time. He'll learn how to type just by virtue of using the computer, if he doesn't know it already. I never took any typing class myself; I still remember the days back in high school -- I'd be watching all the non-techie students take their typing classes, while I was on the other side of the hall taking programming. In the end, half of them can still only type, at best, 30 wpm; meanwhile, I learned to type a lot faster than that AND learned something useful like coding,...
I'd probably recommend starting with some of the scripted languages, like PHP (you can tie this in with HTML quite easily), then move on to Perl and Python, and then work your way up to C/C++.
No. Earth is going to be like Venus in 100 years. This is why I always laugh at people that don't believe in "global warming" or the "greenhouse effect", citing lack of scientific observations. Bullfarkingshit! We've been observing Venus for how long, and it's one of the biggest pieces of evidence in the solar system for the greenhouse effect! It doesn't take Albert Einstein to figure this out when the average surface temperatures on Venus are hotter than Mercury.
It would make a nice small scale operation for those that don't want the Empire to find out about their activities,... at least until Darth Vader comes and commandeers your carbon freezing unit to use as a trap for young Skywalker,...;-)
This is good news for Apple and all, but windows will not be going away. I'd like to see figures for how many Mac users out there have a copy of Win XP or Vista installed on their system via vmware, or bootcamp? Windows still has its uses, and there are those "critical" software packages that you just have to have that need to run it. It'll make Windows seem like that annoying party guest that just won't go away after everyone else has left at 4 am,...
Copyright lasting 95 years is a tad long. I mean, most artists are going to be long dead before their copyright runs out. Except maybe . . . Keith Richards.;-)
Where the hell is Carnegie-Mellon? How can you even think about having a car race like this without inviting them?!?! Or maybe they didn't invite them because they wanted the other teams to actually have a chance?;-)
Seriously, I think subby is making mountains out of molehills here,... I mean, first of all, in order to see someone's name, you've got to (a) know their email address and (b) invite them to join a calendar that you set up, which also clues this person in to the fact that you've got their email address. So it's not like you're really snooping here, nor are you able to get a full list of everyone's names and email addresses.
Besides, so what if someone knows your real name. My real name is in my effing gmail address anyway. Your real name is not "private" information, like a social security number or a telephone number. If you don't ever want anyone to know your real name, that I'd suggest a better strategy -- STAY OFF THE INTERNET! You'll make life better for you, and me.
You must be in graduate school. I graduated from a pharmacy graduate program in which the majority of our graduate students were either Chinese, Indian, or some other Asian. As a white male or European descent, not to mention also an American citizen in a US graduate program, I was technically a minority during my tenure as a grad student; except I didn't get any "special treatment" as a minority. Even today, I work with a research group of eight people; myself and the PI are US citizens, everyone else is foreign national, at least half are Asian. And the government still doesn't consider me a "minority"; which is why quotas and protected groups are nothing but complete and utter bullshit.
Pharmacy, too. At least for pharmacy practice. It's interesting how, 30-40 years ago, most pharmacists were men. Today, the average pharmacy school class is about 70-80% female.
However, on the graduate school side of pharmacy school, in the Ph.D. and M.S. programs, it's more or a 50/50 male/female ratio, so it's more even. That's probably better than engineering graduate programs, since women tend to be more interested in things related to the biological sciences, as pharmacy is.
I was on a tour of an AEGIS cruiser at Norfolk Naval Base back in the mid 90s, and yes, one of the systems in their main "weapons operation center" was running windows. Don't remember if it was 3.11, NT, or 95? I only hope and pray to God that it wasn't running any active weapons systems; not that they would've told me or anything,...;-)
On the one side, yes, we do lose our First Amendment right to freedom of speech by posting in online forums, since it's not really "public" (even if it may have the illusion of being public). On the other side of the coin, I'm actually glad somebody is able to step in and moderate this stuff, or else all of our forums would be overrun with viagra/peni$ enlargement spam, pirated material, child porn, and god only knows whatever else. Just look what happened to Usenet,... they tried to keep that as open and free as possible, and today it's practically useless as a discussion forum.
Now that Bill Gates is retired, do you think Slashdot could replace the little Bill/Borg icon that it uses to denote a Micro$oft-related article. Personally, I think a little icon of Steve Ballmer throwing a chair would be appropriate,...;-)

Umm, I wouldn't call Uncyclopedia a "competitor". It's owned by Wikia, which is essentially Wikipedia Founder Jimmy Wales' for-profit wiki venture.

. . . a beowulf cluster of solar panels on your [mother's] house! It ought to power your beowulf cluster in your [mother's] basement!
Sounds like they spilled Guinness on the servers again! Either that, or it's those damned pesky Leprechauns! :-)
In Apple's defense, the iPhone 3G does have Exchange Mail support now. Apparently, you missed the all the news regarding the launch last friday,...

With graphics cards like this, Duke Nukem Forever will be damn good when/if it comes out! :-)
I think I've rebooted my WRT54G router like twice since December. It's quite reliable.

Rather, something inherently asexual in Star Trek fans, but I see that one just missed you like a supersonic jet,... ;-)
Doesn't anyone else see the irony in a company named "virgin" naming its first two ships after ships from the Star Trek series? ;-)
Except, then you'll need $420 more to spend on Frito Lay,... ;-)
Once the squeeze the 10,000th core into that, most people ought to be able to run Windows Vista just fine,... maybe even Duke Nukem Forever, too? ;-)
Yup,... thought so. :-)
