Then I'm going to wait until I'm about 90 to read Harry Potter. No sense paying for it when you can get it out of public domain. Nobody tell me how it ends,... ;-)

  2. Re:Nothing incoming on Open Library Goes Online With Public Domain Books · · Score: 1

The RIAA or MPAA probably wouldn't care about books, since they're not recorded media. I guess if some public libraries loan out CDs, videocassettes, DVDs, or even books on tape, they might try to get involved.

The RIAA is really looking forward to the day when every child in the world has their own computer. There's tons of countries in the developing world that they'll now be able to target with threats of lawsuits for downloading copyrighted music!

  7. Nicotine itself isn't really that bad ... on Nicotine Is the New Wonder Drug · · Score: 1
But I wouldn't go so far as to call it a, "wonder drug." It's a powerful CNS stimulant, but also responsible for the addictive effects of tobacco use. But on the bright side, it increases concentration, learning, and memory, and decreases anxiety ... maybe that's why a lot of students like to smoke? Still, I wouldn't recommend smoking because of all the other crap in tobacco smoke you don't want.

But even with all these benefits, I wouldn't call it a wonder drug. In the drug industry, we'd probably call it a, "Lead compound," ... something that, if improved chemically, could lead to a better drug. And that's what the so-called excitement that this article is talking about is referring to. Better drugs that could be used as treatments for a variety of other diseases. Sorry! Nicotine itself won't cure Parkinson's or Schizophrenia.

Use the computer's hard drive only for temporary storage or storing the actual executable programs and such. That way, if they ever have to bring the computer in for service, their personal files won't be scavenged by some teenage punk pillaging for porn, and they also still have access to all of their files ... simply plug the USB drive into another computer and they're good to go! ;-)
