Actually, I thought Ballmer's announcement was that they'd thrown chairs through all the windows at microsoft's campus, thereby increasing the natural, "air-conditioning," in their offices,. . .
I just set up a new Dell system with Red Hat Linux and an ATI X1800 Pro graphics card last week. ATI's linux support is actually improving. They now actually have pretty easy to install drivers for both xfree86 and xorg, which work reasonably well. I think I still personally prefer Nvidia cards, though,...
Unfortunately, Red Hat's SATA drive support is still in the dark ages,...;-)
The biggest problem, the way I see it, isn't so much the copyright issues. It looks like recently they're working on overcoming that and signing agreements and such to both keep the content freely accessible while at the same time satisfying the greedy bastards that own the content. I have to applaud them for that! They've accomplished what Napster was never really able to do while still maintaining their site's popularity. Youtube is still the best place to go for music videos.
But the biggest problem with Youtube, is probably the fact that lots of things, particularly the copyrighted material, seems to be uploaded in duplicate, triplicate, even quintuplicate. Seriously, if you search Youtube for, "britney Spears hit me baby, one more time," you get at least FOUR IDENTICAL OFFICIAL VIDEOS (as well as a zillion spoofs by others making fun of Britney, which is not the problem here, IMHO). If they're going to sign agreements with getting official, copyrighted content on their site, they've really got to do something about reducing all these damn duplicates!
Oh wait, Slashdot hasn't quite figured that one out, either! Damn.
I'd say we don't have to worry about Unisys anymore, until I read this press release,... I guess we don't have to worry about the GIF thing no more, but you better not throw away your tin foil hat,...;-)
This is great news! I wonder if slashdot will eventually have a CowboyNeal AI to replace the real one today? Hopefully, it would give us less dupes,...;-)
No, it's even simpler than that!
SELECT representatives, senators, presidents, white_house_staff, agencies FROM government WHERE clue > 0;
(0 row(s) returned);-)
I live action sequel would be better, yes. But who would they get to play Barf? The loss of John Candy was really a tragedy. At least now, all they have to do is just somebody to replace his voice -- but it still won't be the same,...
What they should do is not only offer free clipart on a site like openclipart.org, but also offer it in a format that would be easily downloadable and usable not only by their own users, but also users of Micro$oft Orifice. Let the M$ zombies come to their site and see what they've got, then take a look at a free office application on the site, and maybe some of these people will then be converted over,... Plus, once they get a critical mass of software clipart, and if it's good enough, they could easily put a bunch of it on a CD-ROM and sell it in stores like wal-mart,...

Oh great! In the future, you'll have to pay Paramount 10 times more than it's worth just to order a,. . . "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot." ;-)
Sadly, the term, "slashdotted," didn't even make the initial poll,... Or maybe it did, and that poll was slashdotted, so nobody responded,... ;-)
And they came to that conclusion just by looking at Congressman Foley's computer alone! Wait until they get to the rest of the government,... ;-)
I bet Dubya sits in the oval office looking at naked Chimpanzees in flightsuits,... :-)
**sarcasm** I can hardly wait! **sarcasm off/**
. . . and the beer tastes quite a bit better than anything put out by Crapheiser Butts, as well!
No, you have it wrong! Congressman Foley was interested in little boys , not little girls,...
We should just zap all of our, "historical documents," out into space, to be picked up by alien civilizations,...

CowboyNeal?
Even if it is for real, the list can't be long,... one, maybe two entries,... tops.

I guess I need to go out and get, Spaceballs: The Spelling Checker !
Hmm,... must be the power of the SCHARTZ!
Talk about some pork,... What a waste! ;-)

So if ibm.mobi is shorter to type than mobi.ibm.com , why didn't they just go with the ultimate shortest TLD (e.g. ibm.m )?
The scary thing is how many slashdotters went back to the file and actually looked for it after you posted that,... ;-)
Shows like Barney the Dinosaur have been known to give lots of people nightmares!
Hail, Xenu!
I live action sequel would be better, yes. But who would they get to play Barf? The loss of John Candy was really a tragedy. At least now, all they have to do is just somebody to replace his voice -- but it still won't be the same,...
