I know that word is a reference but I can't place it. I used to use the word all the time. I beg of you, to ease my brain, what is the source of that word assuming it is a pop culture reference as I suspect.
When they search your hard drive they verify the hash of the mp3 you have is a duplicate of a known traded mp3 hash. While it is technically possible for them to be the same by using the same encoders/settings etc as those that were ripped and distributed, it's (from what I understand) not that common.
If they find an MP3 on your hard drive, they will take steps to prove it's a traded version before they use it as evidence in court.
The thing about the Q factor is that it doesn't change the size of the file; only the time it takes to encode it... ...A 128Kbps MP3 isn't just a 128Kbps MP3 any way you cut it.

Exactly what I was refering to.I can understand encyclopedias, world atlas and such using large amounts of space, but I can't see why you wouldn't just keep using DVDs for the most part. Just because a new format comes out doesn't mean that you have to adopt it to store the book draft you're working on...
If someone had a book with 50GB of data, I doubt it could ever be published.
As to having to re-write a disc every time you make a change, Rewritable media is there for a reason.
I don't demand the government provide me with security. I have the second ammendment (for now) to cover that.

I remember back right after 9/11 it was said that we shouldn't change our way of life any or the terrorists would win (this is true). And yet, FUD from the government changed this view. Get back to the basics. Realize that while you 'could' stop everyone, it would pretty much take video cameras in everyone's house.

This isn't even theoretically possible. This would require them to ship 3 DVDs per person per day. You can tell how they came up with the number. But assuming the post office would deliver the same day it was shipped, and that you watched it and returned it that day, this would require every netflix subscriber to Watch 3 movies a day.
I'm skeptical.
I personally work in a factory that produces steering wheels/shift levers/dash panels for both Toyota (and of course) Lexus.
If we misform a Toyota steering wheel we repair it (usually with a little super glue) and it looks good as new. ANY problems with any of our lexus parts and they go to the scrap dock instantly no matter how small the defect.
Yes, the parts are interchangable between a Lexus and Toyota for the most part. The difference is in the quality standards we adhere to at the factory.

Seems to me that's exactly what's the root cause of your inflamitory comments. I could care less about smoking in public even though I am not a smoker myself. You however (refering to Doc Ruby) seem to be pushing your own agenda at the cost of common courtesy to other peoples opinions.

IANA(expert at anything) but I believe there are other ways to copy a DVD movie other than breaking CSS. They're just slower.
If sony had priced the initial run of consoles for $2000 each the outrage people like you show would have been far more dramatic.

Found an even better search example. Searches for wikipedia are VERY quickly approaching searches on porn.
Porn wasn't always at the top. Back in 2004 there were more searches for microsoft than for porn.
