In real world you have an identity and if necessary the police can locate you to make you accountable for your actions.
Why should this be different in the Internet? Why can't we find a way to make people accountable for their actions in the Internet?
The communications should be private, most actions should be private, but identities should not.
In real world if I have private meetings with people regarding political discussions, for instance, the information in the meeting is private, the gathering may be private, but my identity is not, everyone knows who I am or at least knows my face and probably my name.
I like the ribbon in office but I think it's only really usefull in high resolution monitors, where all the buttons are visible and they dont take much area.
With this kind of information it is possible that, one day, the streets will have advertisements that change after they identify the person that looks at it, using facial recognition.
And this is the most harmless application I can think of.There are many others which are must less benign.
This will be the last step of the this trend in which we loose completly our privacy.
Lets assume that it is possible to have instant knowledge about anything or anybody. Lets also assume that it's impossible for someone to hide. Then, the society would be very, very, different. We would behave differently, we would avoid doing stuff that we don't want others to know, some things we do right now in privacy would become normal and public. In this situation, no one would have a special power over the other due to information. People with power would become a focus of attention and would need to be more careful, people without power would need to be careful as they could be watched by anyone... Our lives would be very different. Could it be better? Maybe, who knows how well we would adapt. But, BTW, why do we need to have secrets? Why?
Yes... But it is the designer's work and creativity that is passing through your computer and eyes. If you don't like the result or feel disrespected by it, then, don't look at it! I don't.
Why is everything about rights and contracts? Why don't we respect each other, why don't we respect the work of others? If someone prefers that his creation is to be presented in some specific way, why don't we respect that? Of course, if the design is bad it will scare away the users, but that's a designer's problem, not user's. Of course this applies to many many things...
You may be joking but a content provider should have the options to enforce the style he wants. It is part of his creative work and people should respect that.
I don't want to carry several devices with me. If I had a phone with a good capacity, I would never look to an iPod again.
So, I believe it is a threat to them, and I think Apple should enter the mobile business. I'm sure they would create some very cool mobile phones...
China only wants a very very cheap processor for their appliances. So they would not want to pay for the design or invest in a new one.
Maybe one day everything (TVs, refrigerators, whatever...)will have one of these...
I would download and pay (not as much as a DVD of course) to see TV shows in a iPod/PSP... They could even be free if sponsored.
It wouldn't compromise DVD sales as quality wouldn't be the same.
Users don't have to check if they have the correct distribution, with the correct version, with the correct packages installed, with the correct kernel, etc... to have some program working.
Most users don't want the trouble... It's the flexibility of Linux that kills its use as a desktop for everybody.
What's great for the geeks is bad for the normal user.
This could enable us to implant sensors inside our body with out the need to power them externaly.
Another possibility is to use memory and processor implants to increase our capabilities.
Or, who knows, maybe, with more efficiency, we could have receptors feeding all kind of sensations in our cortex. Maybe in the future we will live a in a virtual enhanced world...
All we need is to learn how our brain works!
At first look it appears to be someone calling in a cell phone. However there many simpler and better explanations for the women's posture.
