and for the remainder of people, OpenOffice.org will work just as well under Windows for the folks that need the Accesibility tools, until Linux catches up (not long)
Remember how Sid Meier's greatest games got sold off piecemeal, and how all the new Railroad Tycoons suck?
That's what happens when Sid Meier isn't involved anymore. Pirates! and Civ IV were great games, but we won't be seeing the likes of them until Sid creates another firm 10 years from now.
Granted, 2K has not been heavyhanded with Rockstar, but then Rockstar makes pretty much the #1 game franchise in the world. A smaller firm like Firaxis will be easy to meddle with and fuck up irreversibly.
I've tried confirming this story on Google... I see a space probe mission or two cancelled, and some evidence that science operations on station are being somewhat neglected, but nothing as wildly improbable as a total cancellation of payload science operations on the ISS.
TFA seems to misinterpret the administrator's comments before Congress. He speaks of suspending NASA's own research projects in life science and nuclear propulsion.... the kind of cutting edge stuff needed for 9-month trips to Mars (or having the speed to reduce that to a more manageable timeframe).
The concept is great, don't get me wrong. But the demo I downloaded a few months ago shows poor execution.
The interface is difficult to understand and confusing at times (Example: I have a left-handed mouse configuration, and the game reversed it on its own).
The included scenario with the demo was also numbingly difficult (two turns and everyone stops paying their taxes? What kind of country is this?). Hardly the type of thing that will make me want to buy the game, although if I had enough time to play around in a less limited version I might have a different opinion.
Ultimately, you're not going to go very far on Linux wanting to charge money for a closed-code program. If you're unwilling to make a sacrifice in the arena, the time and effort to port it will probably be wasted.
This is a good idea, but it'll take a lot to make it work right, especially difficult while the NASA budget is flung all over the place.
It is especially important with all the water they'll be dealing with, that they take much more care with biological scrubbing... The recent news about the bacteria on the Mars landers doesn't bode well for sending anything 100% clean to the edges of space.
Look at the Air Force officers fantasize about conquering the universe. How naively ambitious of them... Well, let's let them get back to playing their war games.
Lobbyists for

written thousands
of pages of F.C.C.
comments
ridiculing
proposals to allow
low-power

For example, highpower

would create
harmful

Websites can and do treat you differently if you don't use IE. You can either make the web designers feel bad for not supporting other browsers, like Firefox, or avoid the problem by identifying yourself as IE, like Opera. I prefer the latter because it's less work.
Well, of course the XBox is just a poor-performance PC clone at its heart. But the PS3 could quite possibly run circles around standard desktops. And even if it's not extraordinarily fast... the offset is that there will be MILLIONS of them.
Yes, Sci-Fi has grown up over the last 30 years. I love Firefly and Stargate. But that doesn't mean old ideas are inherently worse; the new Battlestar Galactica series is fantastic.
The problem is that since Star Trek: The Next Generation made it OK for shows like Quantum Leap to take to the air, Star Trek itself has had closed-in ideas and stagnant leadership. Deep Space Nine was alright, Voyager was decent, but Enterprise just got worse as it went along. They didn't realize it until it was too late.
Manny Coto might have done a lot for Star Trek. He may yet have the opportunity. What's needed is a new vision. When legends like J. Michael Straczynski are lining up to reboot Star Trek, something is up. Maybe something great.
If only Paramount would shake off the stranglehold Rick Berman has on the franchise, they could really make progress.
I never liked the GameSpot down here. The folks running it never seemed like the gamer type. I guess they're the only game in town now.
I've shopped at the local Electronics Boutique ever since it was called WaldenSoftware. They've never let me down. All too often, GameStop has.
A lamentable loss. I'm gonna miss them.
This is awesome, now not only are some of the grandest libraries in America being digitized, so too are some of the grandest in Europe. As great as Google is, I would very much prefer a world where all the eggs were not in one basket.
I guess I haven't been paying that much attention.
I suppose it was true when someone said that if Apple had the opportunity, it'd be just like Microsoft...
Well, if you can patent genes and lifeforms... Why not just patent Gene Simmons?

I've been looking for an excuse to boot into Linux!
...anyone ever thought of using an opaque sheath around the fibre optics?
The government has announced stiff penalties for adultery, not coming to complete stops at county road intersections, and underage drinking.

Between guys like this and ITER, we will have fusion power within 10-20 years.

This is why everything I write on Wikipedia is still released into the public domain.
Indeed. It's sad to hear LB got out just a bit too late, at that. But at least he's still getting stuff behind the scenes!
Now let's get out there and get killl us some Rathi.

I love Big Brother! ::tears::
