    --Trolling? RAID and LVM are both supported in-kernel. Mint is designed as a desktop OS.

    --If you need the support, you can always email the distro maintainers and ask for the feature to be included. And you're always free to recompile your kernel or find a 3rd-party repo that has the support you need. The rest is all userland tools, which can be installed with apt-get.

    I don't have a bandwidth cap that I know of, but DVD-by-mail is ideal for my usage pattern. Very happy with Netflix (including the price increase. It's really not that bad.)

    --Absolutely. I called their helpline and said Thank you. ;-) The whole reason I signed up for their service in the 1st place, was from a Slashdot article that said they had made a conscious decision to keep their customer service in the US instead of outsourcing.

    1-866-716-0414 - Let them know they did the right thing by listening to their customers!

    Send them on vacation for a month. If things remain quiet, THEN you can start suspecting things like that. Your "9 times out of 10" is pure B.S.!

    --Best of both worlds: Linux host OS and Vmware guest (Windows)

    o The VM is portable and shouldn't go thru Reactivation after migration unless the *virtual* hardware changes significantly

    o The host OS is fairly simple to reconfigure (as stated above) if the drive is moved to a different machine

    --Despite the jokes, seriously - I've long been thinking this would be the best way to archive stuff that you NEVER want to lose. Think " Dead Sea Scrolls " type longevity.

    --Stone Just Doesn't Wear if properly cared for - and should still be mostly readable if -not- cared for. These discs will likely last for generations, even if you put them at the bottom of the ocean in a Baggie.

    --Before moving, I ripped most of my CDs to 160 Kbit OGG VBR and left the physical CDs behind. After converting the .ogg files back to 44100 KHz WAV files when needed and burning them to CD, I can't really tell the difference from the original CD quality.

    --True in all cases? No - but good enough for my needs. There are songs that are so complex, that you just want to keep the original ripped WAV file around just in case. But 160 Kbit OGG VBR (ripped in Linux, natch) is just about as good as CD quality to my ear.
