Lol... He probably didn't account for them because he didn't want to admit his IT infrastructure and record keeping was so bad he didn't know where half of them were either. Sadly I'm only half joking...
Not to pick apart your post... but uhhh... I think we sowed the seeds of hatred that would last for centuries with the crusades. They still bring that up from time to time. Don't think we need to worry about that.
It appears they are talking pac-man world according to the pdf here

Maybe he can throw stuff or jump on the ghosts or something in this version? Has anyone played it to see if maybe we're missing something? I hope... maybe...

It sounds like you missed the geek meeting where we decided non-geeks aren't supposed to use computers. You must have been sick that day. The end goal is not to make usable working computers and software. The goal is to make things that only half work and then grind out non-geeks will to use computers by providing subpar support. Non-geeks have proven surprisingly persistent though. We may have to schedule another meeting to come up with a new plan.
If the aliens are enlightened and have better over all moral views then us - yes. We could reason with them.
If they view us the same way we view most animals then I hope we don't taste very good. Many animals communicate just fine. Make lobster some time. It will communicate with you just fine. We just don't care.
My view on this is simple. It sure sucks being lower on the food chain.... If you're tasty and/or cutting you open is an educational experience get ready to be exploited by those above you on the food chain. This is why the aliens experiment on us... We're either tasty or our anatomy is interesting. We may be the galactic equivalent to froggies for some alien science class.
If you're in Dallas you can get away from the phone company. EarthLink offers 8MB/1MB DSL+Home phone connections via Covad there. I have the service in SF and its great. The tech support sucks but you're on slashdot so you couldn't possibly need much tech help anyways. Since COVAD is doing your lines you won't be blown off by the phone company if EarthLink decides theres an issue with your lines either.

Maybe I'm new around here... but are you guys actually arguing about which OS pastes to the command line better? I knew/. was geeky but damn... The only thing worse is the fact I read the thread and was actually interested in the outcome... Stepping back and having that realization is scary sometimes.
I'm going to have to say amen to that. To all the people who whine about H1B visas STOP! The H1B holders are kinds of people we WANT coming to the US. They're educated, willing to work, and motivated. Why wouldn't we want them in this country paying taxes and contributing to our GDP?
Is everyone that unwilling to compete? As mcrbids said... if they're here... they're paying US housing costs... instead of Sri Lanka housing costs... H1B visas are NOT the problem.
hmmmm... I'm sensing a theme here... Guess who New Orleans approached to take over their wifi network....so sayeth the official EarthLink blog... the telcos can't really complain much if the private company runs the network for profit...

According to the official EarthLink blog (http://blogs.earthlink.net/2006/03/saving_wifi_in _new_orleans.php) New Orleans has approached EarthLink about taking over the WiFi network there. Given that EarthLink is building out the networks in Philly and Anaheim as well this might be the solution to the problem. If a private company runs things the telcos can't complain.
Pay the fine...
Make the new versions of windows...
Make sure said versions of windows can't launch starcraft or warcraft 3....
Said versions of windows never get installed once anywhere in Korea...
As a side note.... did the Korean government not notice how well removing media player helped things in the EU?
Survival of the fittest....

These mergers in the telco industry are simply adjustmets to survive. With Muni-Wifi becoming more prevalent and VOIP cellphones coming out there is less and less need for land line telephones. Saying Ma Bell is back may be a little too strong with the amount of competition when it comes to telephone service. Its also starting to look like Internet service may be looking more like a 3 way competition with muni wifi coming to San Francisco, Anaheim, and Philly in the near future. We're actually getting more options as consumers and the telco are merging again as a result.
This sentiment might not be popular but well I see it like this.... If Europe really wants to get control of the DNS root servers from the US let them... If they actually not only talk about it but do it... some control of the DNS root servers could be a reward fo getting off their butts and doing something instead of talking about it. Realization that doing stuff instead of talking about doing stuff could change Europe forever.
You ask if the labels of get a cut of every CD player they sell... In some cases (Sony) they do.. in other cases the labels actually get money from taxes on CDR sales...
The IPod changes things signifigantly since the labels get no revenue from this..
I'm convinced I know the real reason MS needs you to have spiffy video card. We've all pissed clippy off by making fun of him... Now we're gonna log into windows and BAM! 3D clippy. And if he finds open office icons on your desktop hes gonna kick them around like soccer balls so Joe6Pack can't use it... thats my conspiracy theory of the day....
Its been said that if you look at history... Pioneers always got the arrow in the back and the settlers that came after were the ones that got all the money...
Great... lets see how much the city government here in San Francisco wants EarthLink digging everything up....and then SpeakEasy digging some other parts of the city up....boy.... it'll be like Boston's big dig all over again....what fun.
On a flip note why should Ma and Pa continue farming to provide you with the food you buy at the grocery store because you like your nice cushy urban lifestyle?
you mean you actually read and understood the article? I though that wasn't allowed on Slashdot. I guess I'll have to do that from now on...
I thought everyone here just read the headlines and overreacted to them...
You obviously didn't grow up on too much star trek. Any true trekkie would know that its a Romulan Warbird and a Klingon Bird of Prey...
Lol... He probably didn't account for them because he didn't want to admit his IT infrastructure and record keeping was so bad he didn't know where half of them were either. Sadly I'm only half joking...
blah... it helps with the prelaunch jitters.... besides I bet it makes space way cooler than it already is....

If Hilary gets caught sleeping with an intern at the end of her term is it revenge or another political scandal or both?
