    The OLPC is in fact a part of the solution... an educated population will fix this problem. OLPC will boost the level of the average education in 3rd. world countries and that will over time drive democracy forward.

    "What do you know about GPL v3, that no one else knows?" I do not know anything else about GPL v.3 than everyone else: There are issues in it (in the draft) wich would be very hard to accept for commercial users and commercial software companies.
    ...and just for the record : I myself do not disagree with these issues.

    MS lawyers may just have discovered how they can use the soon to be here GPL v3 to kill the FOSS community:
    1. Make a deal with Novell (the 2nd largest commercial distro)
    2. Wait for GPL v3
    3. Pissed off FOSS developers changes to GPL v3
    4. Commercial customers and software companies drop Linux because of GPLv3
    5. Novell dies (or is bought by MS)
    6. Red Hat is reduced to nothing
    7. FOSS is again a non-issue on the commercial market
    8. MS profit
    ...that's the plan, directly from Redmond,WA.

    I just can't understand why Novell didn't see this...

    ...I don't remember why it didn't get implemented but IBM did have working harddrive prototypes with encryption in 2000.
    They even talked about HD's with DRM on-board, I don't know what happened to that idea.

    There have been many companies that have failed during the 90-ties... the greatest loss propably beeing Digital.
      Apple did survive and they are now in a better position than they've been in the last 10 years... and it really doesn't matter if it is caused by a mp3 player or by the move to Unix.

    I just don't understand why Spamhaus doesn't have a .eu adress... and btw. I do not have problems resolving spamhaus.org in Denmark...

    Just FYI: Fighting fire with dynamite is actually an excellent idea... just ask those guys who fight fire on oil fields.

    I do know that a lot of people a writing about those problems... I'm just saying that I cant find the leak...
    I keep my FireFox open for 48 hours every weekend... with no problems.

    Could someone pls. direct me to that leak... I've searched for it for the last 2 years & I can't find anything that match your description...
    I think your OS is incompatible with FireFox... and it is probably done on purpose.
    ...but then again, I do only use FireFox on W2K, SuSE and OS X.

    "I have learned old people don't like new things." ...and that's also what Bill Gates is telling us everytime someone say that Linux is desktop ready.... I just don't understand why he is confusing his users with new and "improved" user interface on every new version of his software...
    I just saw Vista btw... it allmost looks like KDE on SuSE...

    I honestly belive that it would be no worse than when I upgraded her from WfW 3.11 to Win 95 or from Win 95 to NT4. The W95 to NT4 was especially hard because I introduced "User mode" to her.
    You are right, there are many more people that can help with Windows problems but usually old Martha is calling me anyway.
    She is btw. using a iBook now... "it was so nice, I couldn't resist it" she told me. :-)

    We usually have more support caused by old Martha installing funny things on her Windows (and running as Admin, because it is easier) than we would ever have if old Martha was running Linux (or Mac OS X).

    ...yell about how expensive a change to Linux would be ? They mentioned that there would be a massive need for education of useres and rewriting of applications ?
    I just imagined the new title "Microsoft says that a change to Linux would create at least 50,000 jobs in Europe, 50,000 in the United States and another 200,000 in the rest of the world."
    I hope some politicians from around the world sees this... Al Gore, where are you when the world need you ?

    Lenovo build quality sucks... We've got T43's from before the shift and after the shift and the build quality on those after the shift are poorer.
    I'll wait until I see some good stuff from Lenovo (or until IBM makes a PowerPad).

    That is 'cause some older drives were build to be mounted in a specific direction. When new they usually didn't have any problem but after some time (usually 2 - 3 years) they bagan to behave like this. It has something to do with bearings and lubrication of them.
