I'll give you a counter proposal: Ubuntu minimal. If you hit f4 and choose command line, you'll get a base install, afterwards you can simply apt-get install xfce4 or whatever.

Whats the point? PPAs, The single thing Debian is sorely missing. PPAs in a Debian distro are like addons in a Mozilla browser, simply addicting.

The minimal installer is just 22MiB, and will save you from downloading a large ISO and then updates, so you can do more in less time.

The idea of a sudoer instead of root + user is an (expert) option of the Debian Installer, say no when it asks you if you want a root account. You might hate it, but others find it useful.

There are no "Ubuntu's wizards", It is called Network Manager and can be installed in Debian as well, or uninstalled/ignored in Ubuntu. Network Manager will not manage any device you define in /etc/network/interfaces by default, so you can go back to ifup/ifdown or direct ifconfig. Network Manager is very good with 3g modems so i don't agree with you in getting rid of it. Some people prefer wicd for wifi, its an option as well.

Like Linus, I also switched to XFCE. Sure it needs more polishing, but the more of us using it will make sure this happens. XFCE is actually better than gnome in some aspects: Window buttons to the right or left? You choose it with a drag and drop gui, not a cryptic gconf thing. How could gnome miss simple things like that?

  3. Venezuela on Are We Seeing the End of Big Oil? · · Score: 2

The nationalizing trend started in the 60ies, about the time Opec formed; many countries found out they could earn much more by controlling the business directly, and in many, the private (often foreign) companies paid very little (or none) of taxes/royalties for extraction/processing/distribution/export, etc.

That was the case of Venezuela, for a hundred years, US corporations extracted the best lighter Oil and burned immense natural gas reserves and even heavier crude in the way. In 1975 the whole industry was nationalized, but it was done to benefit the foreigners and corrupt politicians of the time, because their (many decades long) permits were about the expire a few years later and the nation would not need to pay them to leave.

The current Venezuelan oil is heavier, and less valued because it needs more effort in processing, which is why Venezuela has so many (not very profitable) refineries, even in the USA.

Venezuela opened foreign private and state owned corporations the chance to form joint ventures with PDVSA to extract the heavier oil in the Orinoco belt, with the State owning a portion of shares, and higher royalties per barrel export. Only 2 US corporations left the zone when a previous deal was made void, everyone else stayed and even more came (from Asia and elsewhere).

Big state owned oil corporations are nothing new and will not go anytime soon. It is far more lucrative for most countries to have it that way. Political tensions with Venezuela are a decision of US administration, in line with their global policy for domination clashing with nationalistic positions (daring not let US corporations milk away all the profits). Nothing new and widely know outside USA for decades, if not centuries.

Of course, a lossless format such as flac makes sure a 44.1khz@16bit CD stays the same, for about half the size. If you compared that to 96khz/24bit audio then your comment would apply.

But, lossy can decode to higher bitrate, and that helps a tiny little bit (no puns :)). Also higher samplerates makes it easier to do filters (lowpass). Humans can't hear above 20khz (remember you need twice to reproduce, ie. 40Khz samplerate) and thats where most lowpass filters start in CDs.

Things like executions occur when you let religious extremists in power. It would be the same if you followed your traditions to the letter. Do not forget both religions have the same root, and Christianity as well. And all of them have committed atrocities in the past, and in that very same patch of land even.

The Islam scripture actually treat Jews (and Christians) with respect, and before the Zionists invaded, local Jews and Christians did live there just like they live in other countries.

You say Israel is "surrounded", No s*** Sherlock, Zionists invaded the land and waged war against all its neighbors (defeating them). Thats when a violent future for Israel was sealed; and you have fanatics killing their own leaders, when daring to reach peace after decades of bloodshed.

Zionists don't care about anything and anyone, they want their conquered land clean of Palestinians and anti-zionists and they don't care about the UN or even if the whole world declared war against them, they have the nukes ready should they ever lose.

A new f2p player could, for example be only allowed to roam the high secs of its starting race, needing to unlock both the other regions and lower secs, and the better skills and better ship items (and the ships themselves).

The idea behind this is providing a constant flow of player base, don't forget older games like Eve need this to remain relevant. It also allows for casual gaming, with monthly subscriptions it feels more an obligation, and you know this game is horribly time consuming.

I know its possible to purchase game time with game money, perhaps that should also remain, but you know that also is time limited and constrained, and forces you to farm or be kicked.
