Remember the day when the IBM 75GXP was the hot new drive? Then ... do you remember the day(s) it bit the dust? If you still have the serial number(s), you may be eligible for a $100/drive settlement from IBM.

A quick search on ebay reveals some of these drives going nice and cheap.

I have actually had one I.T based job where my lip piercing benefited me. I was told a few months into my job that they were afraid to 'not' give me the job because I could use the lip piercing as grounds for discrimination.
I have since had a few extra piercings which come and go and a tattoo on my arm. Thankfully I have always been employed because of my skills, not because of an outer appearance.

Depends on who "these people" are.

Anti viral company: Creating a greater need for their product.

Support desk: More support calls to them.

Someone with a grudge against a particular o.s: They can say that their o.s isn't as vunerable.

Script kiddie: They do it for their ego after watching hackers and getting all hot and sweaty by the site of the davinci code

Admin: Do it to get the Product Manager to allow upgrades on their networks and more staff and $$$

I would like to see a worm that goes around and patches servers for a change. It can be done.

How often do you use cash to purchase anything? and are you given cash in hand from your employee. Without certain networks the world could be in a very weird place. Imagine the little things that would be affected by this:
You pull up to the petrol station, the attendant is no longer there because they no longer recieve pay. If they do happen to be there are you going to pay in cash or do you have an electronic card? The petrol station would be pretty much void. Meaning trucks that delivery food to your shops would also be void. Which means no food. Oh and no refrigeration to store what food you have because the power plant has failed.
Things could get really bad very quick...

I highly doubt Google are going to create an OS. They are already in a position of profit. What I do see is Google expanding their online presence into other area's i.e.

    Google Chat

    Google IM

    Google portal

    Google hosting

    Google Forum's

A Google version of .Net Passport

Google WAP and mobile device services (which would make sense if you take into account the recent push for technology in this area).

They are definately in a position to do such thing's without placing too much effort into other area's of the I.T world. I can not see Google creating an OS, licensing that goes with it, HCL's etc etc.
