Good point. So you think that Spore on the Wii will be more like the Sims 2 on the GameCube version - far more limited?
Still, am really looking forward to Animal Crossing II on the Wii - especially being able to visit my friends villages over the Net without worrying about bad guys digging up my stuff.
I can buy a PS2 right now for about $150. In fact, my son went out and did that this summer.
Therefore, I can expect to buy a PS3 in 2009 for about $250. The games will still work the same. And I'll have an HDTV set for $300 USD then (a good one, with no bugs). And the PS3 won't have those early adoption failure rates.
It doesn't support HDTV. I think this will be their fatal flaw for next gen console rave.
Except that the overwhelming majority of US households:
a. don't have HDTV.
b. don't want to pay $2000 plus (add $2000 for stereo system) for HDTV.
c. are perfectly willing to wait until 2009 when we're forced to go to HDTV (we have cable) - and HDTV will cost $300 and we can buy the Wii Plus (next gen box).
Good thing I pre-ordered a Wii in person

so I won't need to worry about PS3 pre-order scams at all.
I'll wait until they sell it for $250 USD. I'm in no rush.
Fable 2 should be everything you expect, then 10 times more that you don't expect -- and that doesn't just apply to this one feature... I almost said it then! -- that applies to the whole game."
I expect it to run on the Wii.
Otherwise I won't buy it.
Right now I've got a Gamecube, an xBox (bought to play Fable), and a PS2. I'm buying a Wii, but not the other game consoles.
Want my money? Port it to the Wii and let my shoot those darned annoying faeries in the frickin head!
Now, if I was a travelling salesman who wanted to find places, I could see why it might be good, in case I got lost, but this nanny state concept is just getting out of hand...
Wii is completely capable of pushing 720p. Whether Nintendo uses it for games or not remains to be seen (probably not). But even the lowest PCs have been capable of doing 720p in 2D for over a decade. Combine this with the Wii's built-in component outputs and there you go, HD resolution.
Good point. Most US HDTV sets that will be in the $300 range (usual price point for consumers) probably will only be 720p, although a few might be 1080p, depending on screen size. In three years that might be different, but we'll be looking at the Wii's successor then.
and yet, the Japanese press says that HDMI addons for the Wii are planned for release, so maybe you're just basing this on what exists today and not what will exist tomorrow?
Good point, except for the fact that each one of those expansion sets actually added entire consistent and novel things to the Sims and Sims 2 franchises. Except for Holiday Edition and Family Fun and Glamor Life, which are just clothes and things.
For example, Open for Business added elevators, running businesses (with sales, time rentals, restaurants, and robot/toy/flower making), and more. Nightlife introduced restaurants and vampires. University added a fairly realistic 4 year college experience (even if it's severely flawed in that it has no post-grads, no community colleges, etc).
Besides, he's working on The Sims 3 right now. It's one of the most profitable EA games franchises in gaming, quite frankly. And a lot more fun than FPS - I just had Hillary Duff grow up from High School and move to college with her sorority sisters (who keep falling in love with her - hard to manage them not getting their feelings hurt...)
Seriously, he's been sending Will emails - and apparently getting responses - trying to convince him to release Spore on the Wii sooner rather than later. Amazingly, he says that Will is going along with it.
Mind you, when he was 11, he took on a powerful city councilmember for the district endorsement and won, embarrasing him.
Actually, according to the print edition of the Wall Street Journal, Sony's in serious trouble and at major risk of damaging their entire company with the disasterous PS3 launch, combined with the battery recall.
Meanwhile, Nintendo is laughing all the way to the bank and quietly gearing up production as fast as it can.
I'll be pondering that on Nov. 19th when my son and I line up in Seattle to get our pre-ordered Wii and then spend the day driving to Costco and ToysRUs and Fred Meyer to buy another one for a friend of his who only brought $25 when he lined up all night to buy a Wii at Northgate Mall.
It's possible that there may be plans to release a combo Wii with a more capable HD-DVD player and they're holding off until the format wars are over and Sony's Blu-Ray loses.
Amen, I got mom an iMac 3 years ago & other than installing a few games, I haven't had to touch it. Before that I was "fixing" her Toshiba laptop at least once a month.
I did the same for my grandma, after five years of phone calls at 2 am to do long-distance tech support for her and my mom. Then my grandma died and my mom inherited the Win computer, which finally died - I took the trust money for her and bought her an iMac. After about two months of occassional calls (what do I do? install the software mom. Now it wants me to say yes. say yes. Is that it? yes.) she stopped phoning because 99.99 percent of the time things just WORKED.
Can't say I miss those calls.
Linux is great for most people, but Macs are great for stopping support calls from your relatives.

I had every intention of buying about 5-6 consoles and flipping them on eBay. Hey, everyone's doing it.
Just make sure they're not the exploding kind. EBay frowns on that.

Makes no never mind to me.
Just wondering ...
probably. I'll buy mine in person at Costco when I do finally get a PS3, along with an HDTV flat panel - and do it for under $600 including tax.
In a couple of years.
In my experience the best places to camp out are Sams-Club and Costco.
Have to agree, I find Costco is one of the best places to buy new game consoles. Another place is Fred Meyer.

both 2007
I'm addicted to all the trailers and movies and can't wait to Wii that.
Boo ya!
It's a tinfoil passport wallet, actually.
I sold the hat to someone from the White House.

PCs are a dead end for gaming, most gaming is shifting to consoles.
In actual measurements, you'll find console gaming sells far more units than PCs ever would.
Why should anyone "know" where I am.

Interesting. Do you have a link to that?
If you'd actually played all the Sims variants, you'd know that Sims 2: University is very unlike Sims 2: Night Life.
While all exist, the motivations and objects tend to make them very separate. Even Sims 2: Pets is a very different flavor.

The price will drop to $199 (much like the N64 did right before launch)
Unlikely, Nintendo actually makes a profit on their consoles, which is why the games are cheaper.
It will include Wii Play in the box (along with Wii Sports)
Some stores will bundle it, but if you buy an extra Wii-mote you get Wii Play with it.
It will have DVD functionality (not like this couldn't be added through software later)
In Japan. Probably HD-DVD in the US, but not until probably Oct 2007.
There will be free Virtual Console games for those early adopters (much like free Opera)
Doubt it.
The Wii-mote will have a microphone in it and you can use the console for VoIP
Doubt it, but someone will sell one.

MS isnt to blame here, it is your admin to blame. It is part of the EULA that SBS needs to be a DC.
You mean you actually read the EULA?
Do you check the linked website every 24 hours for all 50 programs as it requires you to as well?
