So, what they're saying is if I do like I always do and upgrade my monitor from a cheap one to a flat panel LCD, then later buy a new sound card, then add another drive so I don't have to put in DVDs, and swap my CD/DVD player/reader to a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player/reader, and upgrade my memory then... I have to pay them WinVista "upgrade" money four times?
Scr.w that, I'm going with Ubuntu Linux.
My home machine that I use has been a Win machine since DOS 3.0 - I owned Apple and Mac computers and Linux servers too - but if they insist on this I'm not "upgrading" to WinVista no matter what you pay me.
Come closer, little Microsoft Genuine Advantage. Don't worry, I won't hurt you.
You're just so cute!
I think I will call you, Mini-DRM, because you're unwanted, intrusive, and I keep tripping over you while trying to use my legitimately purchased WinVista PCs!
although, I have to admit, I'm glad I sold my 400 shares of Sony in March 2006 and bought 500 shares of Nintendo (NTDOY.PK) at the same time.
People fail to remember that tech always goes thru revisions. Sometimes the player one year (IBM) loses to an upstart (MSFT) and they lose to another upstart (RHAT) who get their shorts handed to them by yet another former big player (ORCL).
Unix gurus wear beards and ponytails and don't have to worry about shaving.
Windows gurus believe the marketing hype and buy the latest shaving creams, exfoliants, have twenty blades and three aloe strips in their razors, and think the term "metronatural" is a compliment.
The biggest improvement I got in shaving was when I stopped using shaving cream (while using Mach 3), rather than getting a razor with more blades. I didn't think it would work, but it did.
I stopped using shaving cream when I was in the Army. I found the big thing was just to get hot water, maybe a hot washcloth, and use Ivory soap. Back when I started I used some shaving cream, but it was all a big waste of time. Saves a lot of money, too.
I remember that, since I was one of the Neilsen Family Shopping panel members, wondering if the razor manufacturers would clue in that guys like me were buying the women's disposable razor blades because they had those gel strips on them.
They eventually did.
But most of the blade stuff has always been marketing hype - as anyone with a Business degree in Sales and Marketing could tell you.
...my theory is that the current ice age began when women started wearing pants instead of dresses and skirts. Clearly, the interaction with the weather has changed. A good stiff breeze... and nothing. Then pantyhose replaced stockings, and all the garter snakes died. Putting your mind in the gutter no longer results in something to look up at. Er, to. Yeah.
Interesting theory, but there's a far more plausible explanation, as every believer of Pastafarianism knows. It's a severe lack of Pirates that's causing global warming.
Ice ages are triggered by too many pirates, of course. Just ask anyone of Norse descent. Or those who believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
I always have the option of moving three hours north to Vancouver BC - Canada - as I'm a dual citizen of both the US and Canada - and by birth, so is my son (since I'm Canadian).
But I live in a very Blue city in a Blue state. We have strong constitutional protections here to keep the fascists out of our private lives.
And, as a former Army Sergeant, I've never been one to back down from a fight for my rights.
Irish is also an ethnic group. Ethnicity is closely tied into race.
Well, techically, celtic peoples are much more racially mixed than others, and Irish include Pictish ancestry, especially on the western side of the island.
But, on a biological level, race is meaningless. Me, I'm a mixture of a lot of things, most of them Celtic (from places like Scotland, Wales, and Germany).
MSNBC doesn't have anything to do with Microsoft anymore and hasn't for a few years.. You should have said "Slate" because that's currently owned by MSN.
So it's been like more than 24 hours since release... has anyone found any bugs?
Yeah. First, Firefox won't play my favorite IE7 extensions, and it isn't as fast as my pre-pre-beta install of IE7 at downloading harmful scripts and spyware.
Oh, and for some reason, MSNBC won't run as fast under Firefox as IE7 - what's up with that?
And how come it keeps popping up all these warnings about "harmful content"? Those are annoying as heck.
Yesterday, in a PS3 article on shipments, a number of other posters refused to believe that the reduced shipment numbers were true when I stated what I had read in the print edition of the Wall Street Journal (subscription required) on this problem.
Please note that Sony's move to beef up it's Blu-Ray players for home/commercial use is directly related to the lower shipment numbers of PS3 units. They all use the same basic devices, and it was an intentional choice by Sony to ship fewer consoles and ship more players, especially since they lose a lot more money on each console they ship (except to the UK, even if those are targetted for March 2007).
So, in that case, if you "give" me your car, your dining room table and chairs, your TVs, your computers, and your wife's pearl necklace - then no transaction has happened?
Cool. I'll be over at 4.

Are you saying evolved websites are ugly (which to me would seem to be caused by the environment given), or that you don't know the real theory of intelligent design?
No, he's saying that Intelligent Design isn't a theory, it's a belief pretending to be a theory.
That given, most GUI websites aren't designed very intelligently and use Graphically Ugly Interfaces.
does that count? Mind you, getting the tape drive to load the program did take a while, and reading the one-line LED output was interesting, but it was a game console...
only 6% said their personal relationships had suffered as a result of excessive internet usage? I am surprised it is not much, MUCH higher. I know it certainly is in my circle of friends and people I know.
I tried to ask all my friends, but when I emailed them and posted it on my web journal, they all said I'm not addicted to it.
What gets me is that out of 20 friends, only one of them didn't reply within 30 seconds to my email... he must be in the bathroom.

Just one more "feature" that wont ship with vista.
...
You're assuming it will ship this decade. While possible, are we certain of that? Heck, they still haven't finalized the hardware APIs for devices

Remember, it's not a bug, it's a feature.
So the ship date was pushed back to allow them to Enhance the Feature.
It's like they're trying to fail or something ...
Sigh.
Look, can someone just drop by their offices and tell Sony something like "It's the games, stupid!" and wake them up?

Yea, but image a beowulf of those.
Back in my day we shaved with a rusty sword and used ice cold water.
And we liked it!

Luckily, my brother, who's a lawyer in NYC, only has VLOGs and never BLOGs, so he's safe.
maybe that will wake the n00bz up.

Um, are you sure? I think that may have been true in the past, but not so much now.
That said, more language support is always better.

Well, I may be memeless in Seattle, but I'm betting MSFT got caught by surprise when this happened.

No -1 day exploits for them
