It might just be me, but if you hit it big with a book that you enjoyed writing, and people love you for it, why get upset?
Just let yourself relax a while and get back into it. Mostly Harmless was fantastic up until he decided "Hey, let's go ahead and kill off all the characters everybody loves."
It was a douche move, and I still don't like it. It's like getting a birthday cake and then a punch to the face. Why forgive that?
gah!
You MORON. Star Wars is THE example of a series that got BETTER when someone else did the story!
Knights of the old republic was superior to even the first three movies!
Though it's a shit-fest now, Star Wars Galaxies, prior to the introduction of Jedi as an unlockable class, was the best MMO of its time, a wonderful game, and quite possibly the best MMO to date.
Even the 5-minute completely fan-driven and made "Troops" which was purely a comedy sketch, was fantastic.
Star wars becomes a bigger, better franchise BECAUSE of these works and many like them.
"ChromeOS is nothing more than a customized Linux distro "
This automatically makes it the best operating system out there.
To actually see Linux backed by a company that is interested in seeing the desktop customer happy?
No, I believe you're wrong.
But yeah, I'll have to elaborate.
At one point, I actually thought that a website designed around leaving tiny messages about the goings-on in your life would be a horrible flop.
lol twitter
You see, there really is a huge demand created by people who want to be social. They want to be wanted, and need to be needed.
At one time I thought that was some sort of freakish behavior, but that may have been me being very lonely most of the time in high school and actually enjoying it.
Doesn't make me the normal one.
You say nobody wants "the net" to help out with editing your home movies?
It would be awesome if I could connect remotely to someone's computer, look at what they're doing, and pop in with a "Ooh, that looks spiffy." at which point they could either chat with me or boot me from their computer. I'm sure that budding artists who enjoy feedback from their work would love to see an audience form up on their own little network. Between the websites they have now, they're already simulating it. It's just shy of what you just said nobody would want, and I bet that you were thinking the same thing about twitter.
There's a version of SR Iron out there, which is basically the open version of Chrome. It has an ad-blocking option available to it. It functions much like an altered hosts file, blocking ad content for you. It's not the same, and feels more like hacking your own version of the browser than installing a mod, but hey! This is Slashdot!
When I have to hammer a nail, I don't reach for "the greatest hammer in the world," even if it is equipped with Geiger counter, screwdriver, stilts, gloves, ratchets, automatic circumcisers, a laser sight, top-of-the-line counterweights system, and a lcd screen.
Adding bloat to something designed to be simple only breaks it. This is why Linux is the best operating system in the world. You get what you want, because you make it. I always viewed emacs as the windows of the text editor world.
Emperor of the Fading Suns. One of the greatest turn-based games in history, one of the most fun.
A game that, in 320x240 resolution, still manages to impress you with its graphics and artistic style. a game that came with a complete soundtrack, and could be played in a cd player without any additional effort (take that, copy protection!) A game that can't be installed from the disk anymore because the installer insists on installing directx 3 before the actual game.
Best of all, a game that's currently abandonware, and free to anyone who wants it online. So technically, I could create the revamp myself, provided I had enough free time.
The fact that both of those actions could fail means that it is less statistically likely that both will be true, even if one is given to be true.
Every effort taken to make rigging difficult WILL succeed, in some small manner, in discouraging that behavior, if only because it becomes more difficult..
Well, it's kinda like putting on some padding, arming yourself with a paintball gun, and heading to a paintball-oriented indoor environment, and expecting the security there to not allow real firearms into the building.
I mean sure, it's kinda risky trusting those guys with all your security concerns, but you have to take some measures to protect the game from hostile outside influence.
That being said, Gameguard does suck. It wont run at all in win xp pro x64 edition, and that's prevented me from participating and contributing to the Huxley beta, which also uses it. How crazy is it that unsupported versions of windows are so bad they can't even run rootkits?
Rumors also persist that games that run Gameguard are more vulnerable to cheaters than other anti-cheating software like punkbuster. Take from that what you will.
But saying that this software is innately bad is a fallacy. Sometimes the only solution to a problem is a temporary, though inefficient and 'bad' one.
She must have been a noob.
My programs are never error-prone, it's always the fault of the data.
Are you saying that on that particular episode, someone secretly replaced the phone booth with a REtardis?
Let's see if he notices, indeed.
It's a star forge!
Run, you fools! It's the sith!
Playing the barbarian in Starcraft 2? That would be a short-lived character!
It might just be me, but if you hit it big with a book that you enjoyed writing, and people love you for it, why get upset?

Most slashdotters believe that the government already is following them around with a camera.
And our poor UK friends have more reason to believe so.
$640,000 should be cheap enough for anybody.

I am really interested in the results.

If you don't know what caused it by now, go watch the new Star Trek movie already. It's actually good.

Would this mean that there's a similar site out there called Slashnaught.org?
Or would that be Slashdot's good twin?
Precisely.
Think of the children.
Crying themselves to sleep.
MWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!
The and is just an and.

The three-body problem, as well.
Dick Cheney doesn't have to censor his secret moon base.
He's so evil, nobody says anything out of sheer terror.

"Yes, disgusting creatures."
Patently and mathematically false.

Not only DRM is defective by design.
This is a security vulnerability caused by the need for faster code.
As the old saying goes: Good, fast, cheap. pick two.
I never thought I'd SEE a tuned resonator, let alone create one...
