You must go through a lot of mice :)

Assuming the Slashdot homepage is around 150KB, which is just a rough estimate taken by "saving" the site and seeing how big just the main page and all the images are. So let's see if the site is 150KB and you can download up to 100GB a month that would mean you would have to reload the page well over 650,000 times. This of course is assuming your Internet browser has no sort of cache and well it is probably assuming a lot of other stuff.

Now I'll go with my "rough" estimate of you having to load Slashdot 650,000 times and let's estimate how long that would take. Say on average it takes your browser 2 seconds to load and display the Slashdot homepage. Yes 2 seconds may or may not be enough time, but I am again just estimating. Ok, so 650,000 * 2 = 1,300,000 seconds. Now doing some more rough math, if it takes you 1.3m seconds to load the Slashdot homepage 650,000 times then it would take you just over 15 times until you ran over your 100 GB limit per month.

Yes my math and estimates sucked. But regardless a lesson can still be learning. If you site at home and reload Slashdot every 2 seconds every moment of every day you'll be abusing your bandwidth.

With Dell doing this they are really benefiting students that attend schools that have a deal with Microsoft. At my school all students can get Windows XP Pro for free from all of the computer labs on campus. Now if a student buys a Dell computer they can get one without Windows since they can get a copy of Windows free from school. We also have staff that will assist a student in installing Windows XP for free.

Seems like anything to save a couple bucks will be good for some students.

  8. 512mb RAM Limited? on Panasonic Toughbook W2 Review · · Score: 1

Perhaps to the poster or to the average Slashdot reader 512mb might be a limited amount of RAM but to the average computer RAM it is probably twice more than they need. Let us remember folks that this is a laptop, not a desktop and certainly not a server. I know a lot of people that are have laptops running WindowsXP and their laptops only have 128mb of RAM. Granted 512mb would be nicer than 128mb, and a gig would be even better. But for _most_ people anything more than 256 is excessive and anything more than 512 is unneeded.

  9. W3C Recommendations? on XForms, XML Events Now W3C Recommendations · · Score: 2, Insightful

The problem with these "Recommendations" is that they are just that, recommendations. Microsoft is the worst at following directions, let alone recommendations, so it is nice to have all these standards but if the most popular browser on the block does not support everything properly then they are useless. I think the w3c needs to work closely with Microsoft and try to get Microsoft to make Internet Explorer more compatible with all the of the existing standards.

I know that Mozilla and Opera support standards better than Internet Explorer, but at least for the time being Internet Explorer is by far the most popular browser. Because of this it is important for the w3c to get Microsoft in the game, otherwise the game will fail.

Of course Eddie Murphy's character eventually hired a guy to work at the Day Care that happened to be into Star Trek. This guy (Marvin) could speak Klingon so him and the boy communicated.

    http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?id=22 8

Also, using a phone connected to a computer via a data cable is a violation of the Sprint Terms of Service. If you do it enough they will charge you. The Unlimited Vision plans are intended to be used via handset and not cables. Sprint has the wireless internet cards for a reason and if you use these cards you get fast speed compared to the data cable method. Right now Sprint is assumably letting data cable internet usage slide because not a lot of people do it, but if it becomes popular they will start cracking down and many people will see lots of charges on their bill from it.

    You've been warned.

Now that I am at college I can visit a lot more sites because load time is decreased. If I had an even faster connection I think the web would have peaked for me. Until the internet becomes instant it will not peak. Right now it seems that the internet will not be instant for all people in the immdeiate future. So while it may peak for some it will not peak for others until they truly experience instant internet. AMD somewhat of a suprise company. At first many people did not rely on them and did not think that they made quality processors. Now many people are starting to support AMD because other companies, mainly Intel are going down.
Linux an upstart operating system that some people still know nothing about. Many people are learning about Linux everyday and are accepting it as an alternative to Microsoft and its products.

It would be unfair if someone got punished more then someone else just because one judge thought spamming was more serious then another judge. I think this is another case of technology passing up society. With cyber crime becoming more and more common a lot of people do not know what to do with the criminals.

I guess some sites make versions of there site for these special devices. But is this really worth while? Why do people really need to have internet access on a cellphone or on a digital camera? Like your digital camera be just that a camera. You can use your computer to browser the web the way it was meant to be. I think we should boycott lame stuff like this. Just people trying to get us to pay more money to have the internet on like a 2 inch by 2 inch screen. I hope people are not stupid enough to think that this is a good idea.
