  1. Look at the visuals on LHC Success! · · Score: 1

It is marvelously self contained. If there were some deviance we would have seen quite a different outcome at least initally. Mind you the negative outcome was theoretical - however we're still here. BTW such a small rift or anomaly in our space (local) would likely have done nothing more than inconvenience us. As our globe turns the rift would not turn with it but stay stationary.. (it has no mass and can not respect our laws of physics) and so at the speed of that rotation it would be beyond its birthplace. Take a deep breath. (at least its a good thought)

  2. To sum it up- on Call of Duty 4 Review · · Score: 1

I played through this already and really like it- I'll get a lot from it but the action was too scripted with little chance to roam around and try solutions from different angles. There is basically a right way and the way that gets you killed. To sum up the action within the game I can use a single word: Mayhem If you can't crank the volume as well as ready subtitles you'll easily lose track of where you're supposed to be- and spend some time getting your can kicked as well as lost. The solution can usually only be achieved if you glue yourself to the other characters- no lone sniper missions here. Even when you are a sniper you're tight alongside a buddy. While this works in a WWII FPS the GHOST style of game should allow you to roam and sneak where you need to- without worrying about your dumb AI buddies that routinely make like statues without your hot on their heels. All in all lots of action, lots of nice effects that show nicely even on my Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz/4GB RAM/ GeForce 8600M GT w256Mb RAM using Leopard's Bootcamp 2.0 and stock Apple display drivers, and with the added arcade modes and even unlockable cheats (not available in multiplayer mode) you/I should be able to replay often. Something I would add- ability to cut through cinematic scenes - a few long ones can't be stopped. Arrggg!

  4. Why Would They Need To Beat Vista? on Is Apple Doing All It Can to Beat Vista? · · Score: 2

Its not about beating Vista, Ubuntu or anything else. Sorry but the point everyone's missing here is that the Mac OS X based computers with Intel chips inside doesn't NEED to beat anything. It runs those OS' just fine. Any limitations of Apple hardware on those OS' is at least shared as many companies also share the same hardware. I stopped using Linux after the having enough of not being able to use a 802.11g card to work online. Why? well the hardware creator wouldn't give up the snippet of code to make it possible and legal. So I suffered until I had enough and ejected it from my system. Windows and Mac OS X will never have that problem. Mac even less as EVERYTHING in your system is supported by Apple and comes with a driver built-in. Peripherals are usually supported by their creators but in some cases Apple has made some of those drivers available too. Lets try that with an Express24 Wireless Internet card on a Windows PC. I digress. If I would be wasting my money trying to outrun Vista- just run Vista. Operating systems are software and that's it. OS X included- of course its not free like Linux but it is cheaper to support and cheaper to buy than XP or Vista and doesn't come with any of the DRM hassle that those other mentioned MS OS' do. Are Apple's Macintosh Computers expensive- um yes and no. You couldn't find the same offering for anything in the same price range on the PC unless you had an insider who could pilfer the parts from their warehouse for you. Plainly the consumer is matched in terms on price points for a decent Mac and a nonexistant PC offering with the exact same specs. The last point that should end it all is that even if you could make a PC with EXACTLY the same specs as say a Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz portable for the same price- it wouldn't be able to run OS X. (I'm speaking legally here- hacks not included in any legit argument EVER).. Lets see: Gateway, Toshiba, Sony, Dell, HP etc.. will run XP, Vista and a range of Linux iterations. Apple Macintosh will run XP, Vista a range of Linux iterations and Mac OS X. I think I'm getting the better deal with the Mac. One company doing what 5 others haven't and can't. But that's the way with any innovative computing/device technology at the consumer level these days isn't it. Where is the ZUNE today compared with the iPod of ANY iteration? Where is the iMac killer of the PC world? What is the BEST PC portable (of those 5 companies) that matches those of the Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz for example. No boutique brands can match it without trying to slip a stupid 19" display and quad XEON into a 5 inch thick casing and 240watt power brick, and 4 HD RAID with 16Gb RAM. C'mon those systems would never make it into a commuter railway on a daily haul to and from work or school for that matter- so be realistic with your answers.

  5. Bothers me. on Windows Genuine Advantage Servers Out · · Score: 1

Why? You don't have to care about my feelings in general to care about what I have to say- I speak for just about everyone here. Windows costs a lot of money to the end user upfront at the checkout as well as to licensed companies in support costs when compaired to some other OS' that I won't mention and so when that cost is further raised by DRM or ANY kind and productivity is halted as a result of lack of redundancy to support their own protection scheme(s) then the end user is being thought of last and their pocketbooks first. I understand why people go into business and sell their products but if your product is flawed due to DRM or insecure due to shoddy workmanship/programming or perhaps a really loose versioning system when farming out modules for programmers to write then you are at fault and may be liable for the costs- how many times have we heard about how MS feels Windows is more secure than ever and that DRM in their products will never inconvenience the legitimate users of their product. Then I smell a lie here and nobody should be able to get away with it. Who's to trust this group? Who watches the watchers and makes sure they have redundancy in their servers as any infrastructure should have? And when will they pay you back for your time lost?

That's a little beyond Mario but a challenge for those even interested in first person shooters. Look at Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. Is it a Nintendo DS game? Naw- that would suck- its a 3D experience and with the right hardware it really rocks. Even then the physix engine was a second thought but an awesome setup (I have a Macbook Pro 2.16 Intel Core Duo with 2Gb RAM and 256Mb ATI X1600 GPU) you would be VERY happy.

  10. Linux is NOT for the timid.. on Can Ordinary PC Users Ditch Windows for Linux? · · Score: 1

I've been able to switch between different platforms several times without much of a problem. I think it's the comfort levels each experience gives you that makes the difference. One thing users of the designer OS' (Mac OS X or Windows) never have to worry about is inconsistent and convoluted setup and maintenance.. Ok even Windows has some pretty obscured settings and issues but in general it is very easy to use and setup - sometimes to the point of annoyance. Granted. Linux offers some simpler "human geared" options like Ubuntu or for the PPC, Yellow Dog which is very good at detecting the hardware you have and setting it up to work correctly but when, for some unknown reason, your display/graphic card isn't being detected, setup and working correctly just how is Mom supposed to figure out how to edit the config files manually using vi or some other ancient text editor and then attempt to kick start Xwindows. Nah, this is advanced stuff folks. Linux is not for the timid or anyone without a healthy knowledge of systems in general or an ability to troubleshoot- let alone the time to do so.
