If you're in your late 30's and feel self conscious about buying games, claim they're for your kid/nephew/niece/whatever. You could also just use Amazon.

My biggest concern with Steam is I don't get a physical disk for when I want to play the game years down the road. Once in a while, I still like pulling out the old Duke3D or Doom disk from 13+ years ago, installing it, and giving it a whirl. With Steam (and XBLA, and any other digital distribution), that option depends on if they feel like supporting it or not. And that's only if they're still around.

This isn't like the library staff caught playing Rock Band. These were investigators at the scene of a drug raid playing a Wii owned by the person being arrested while evidence was being collected on the premesis. This could potentially be a pretty big problem. A defense lawyer could use this to their advantage when attempting to invalidate the evidence collected.

No, strangely enough, they actually don't. Apparently, they have an 18+ rating, but it's not applicable to video games. Which I find very stupid, given the number of games that aren't geared for kids and the average age of gamers is, what, 27 now?

Independent research is a two way street. If jurors are doing this research on their own, it's not going to be brought up in the court case, and there would be no rebuttal since the defendant had no idea what information the juror was collecting independently. There is also no moderation on the Internet, and any information can be posted online, true, false, neutral, or biased.

Combine those two things and you have a juror who can be grossly misinformed but think they're working with facts, and work to convince other jurors with these 'findings.'

It helps protect clients from complaints about copyright/usage infringements. Think about the great press you'd get if you built a site for a client, and they get sued for copyright infringement because of images you found in your Google search.
