I believe that the growth of the the FIRE economy (finance, insurance, real estate) and the wealth it has brought NY has had the greatest effect on crime in NY.
Unfortunately this economic cycle is long in the tooth and NY will recede back into the filth.
I don't think that is necessarily true.... a good unknown band could pass out business cards with a link to their website with the offer of an album download and probably wouldn't do any worse than selling the cds at the concert; minus the hassle of keeping track of money and product while on tour.
Yeah, and Porsche won Daytona 20 times? Thanks for proving my point.
And the 24 hours of lemans, 16 for Porsche. Has BMW even won lemans?
Don't know much about it but I am guessing the Nürburgring race is BMW only.
There is nothing 'new' about this. There are commercial plastics used to desalinize water (reverse osmosis) and membranes used to concentrate oxygen in the gaseous state.
I had the same thought at first but in zero g you could make your mirrors very thin, and they never get dirty. Earth bound mirrors are heavy and demand constant upkeep.
Their favorite set of thumbscrews are highway funds, which you can associate with driver's licenses in a round-about-way.
It's not the same thing. It is a new licensing initiative that would have created a nationwide burden and had no hopes of funding.
Actually magnetrons are fairly efficient...

I for one welcome our 2000km Compressed-Air Driving Overlords...
This would also make a stop-light charging car feasible.
Do not touch electrodes with remaining fingers....
What happens when they find the post-it note in my drawer with a little picture on it?
or how about the replacement of metal interconnects in microprocessors with nanotube transmitter/reciever pairs!
Picosecond pulses from a nitrogen laser are well over a megawatt, but you can put your hand in the beam without feeling anything.
it is easier said: "Nature is a mother!"
Trust me, they are very very expensive!

I don't see much starting and stopping going on to get to the moon. Granted you will need some throttling capability but on a much smaller scale.
Why don't they just make a solid engine burning APC? I will never understand the fascination with complicated liquid fuel systems.
you forgot '@ssholes' for management....

These are all modified race cars. In the real world BMW's seem to have a reliability edge over Porsches. At least that's what I've seen. YMMV.
GT2 Porsches have won Daytona.

Ever been to the 24 hours of Daytona? The pits were littered with blown BMW straight sixes by the end. A 911 won.
People have finished the Baja 1000 on their own, and riding offroad is a bit more tiring.
Nice thought unless you have an art site.
