The grid computing thing was a bullshit story Sony passed around a year or two back about how the Cell would be so powerful that you could render::cough:: Toy Story 2 in real time and still have spare cycles to sell to reasearchers curing cancer. You'd be able to harness the power of unused CPU cycles in gamers' machines around the world into some kind of vast distributed computing system blah blah blah. Typical Sony pre-release stuff.
If memory serves, a few IBM (now Lenovo, I guess) Thinkpads have included equivalent functionality for a couple years. No clue if there are public APIs for accessing their motion sensors, though.
I have never seen a single person in my product unit be rude to the cleaning staff once... I'm not sure if you're implying that other people in your group were rude to them, and if that is the case I don't know what years you worked for MS. I do know what it's like today, though, and my PU treats the cleaning staff, receps, and cafeteria workers with a great deal of friendliness and respect.
I hate to be pedantic, but it's actually 'fruition.' And I agree completely with you; this sounds really cool, and it's a pity it's taken this long to come around.
OK, since we appear to have a miscommunication here: from what I can infer from the demo, the game is of high-quality, and appears to provide great entertainment.
You haven't seen demos for Conker - Live and Reloaded yet, then, have you? This is an abso-fucking-lutely gorgeous game (except for the big splatters of blood and squirrel vomit that end up on the TV)...
IE may be necessary to make the most of it, but I just checked my work email and calendar for tomorrow through OWA before opening Slashdot... all in Safari. In any case, I'd be totally screwed without Outlook; there's no way I'd be able to manage my calendar or my life without it anymore.
Just so you know, the other post under here that says that any posting that includes "Fox News" must be an ad-hominem attack on all that is good and Ann Coulter-loving made me giggle. I agree with you and appreciate your candor and ability to think for yourself. thanks man!
Speak for yourself, I'm a tree-hugging, computer-programming, software-designing, gay marriage-supporting, abortion rights-defending, social security-expecting Liberal. I voted for Kerry (although I would have preferred Dean) and I certainly would have never voted for Badnarik.:-)
Go check out the MSDNAA program, then. Schools can get copies of Windows XP, Windows 2003, VS, and a number of other things for every student for some ridiculously low price. good stuff.
It's not in Seattle, it's in Kirkland. Microsoft is Redmond, and so is Nintendo. Real and Amazon are in Seattle (as is the Omni Group). Mind you, Redmond and Kirkland are adjaent to each other on the east side of Lake Washington, and Seattle's just on the west side of the lake. Getting to the east side (from downtown/uptown Seattle) takes about 45 minutes during rush hour and 15-20 minutes every other time of day. Meanwhile, the guys from Delicious Monster just sit in a coffee shop here in Seattle.
Original Geek Squad crew? We all left 5 years ago.
