When I'm helping someone with a Windows system (I keep that as rare an event as possible), I still see similar nonsense. Windows XP's setup will allow me to partition hard drives #1 and #2, but WON'T let me format them there, and I have to put them in another system to do that part.
Boot into the recovery console first, format the drive(s) of choice, restart and go into setup, install windows. Much faster than pulling the drive and placing it in another machine.
At least they're being open about the fact that Sony manufactured these defected batteries. I wonder if other devices using these batteries are going to start exploding as well?
I think the long lag for cell phones is because of the monthly fee - not a cheap one either. People are more likely to make one-time purchases of things they don't necessarily need, but signing a contract for something you may/may not use and have to pay monthly for not based on how much you use it (unless of course you use it to much:P).
I owned a DvD player in 1998-1999 (I think I bought one with my xmas money in the beginning of 1999) and I was in 8th grade...maybe you guys are REAL slow to adopt because I sure wasn't a rich little kid, and neither were my parents. I paid 200 bucks for the thing but it was something I wanted and had saved up to buy it for a bit of time.
People were sure quick to jump all over poor Ubuntu, without doing any research at all apparently. I happen to have a laptop I wanted to put it on, but it has a Broadcom 4306 wireless chipset, and an ATI 320m video chipset. Guess what? Neither have supported drivers, and why is that you ask? Well it is DEFINATELY not Ubuntu's programmers fault, its the product manufacturers who refuse to write drivers for linux, and also refuse to open up things / provide details to those who want to write drivers for them.
As for other things people (in general, not necessarily here) bitch about, such as off-the-cd mp3 and dvd support, there are legal reasons that they cannot provide this - not b/c they are incompetent, or lazy, but they legally cannot do it.
One last note to people bitching about unsupported hardware, would you rather spend XX dollars on a new, supported wireless card, or spend XXX dollars on windows XP (or soon vista.....or not so soon, whichever)? The decisions is yours, but you are ignorant to blame Ubuntu, its Ok to file a bug report, but the blame goes to the manufacturers.
This would be great if it was, for example, its own "type of folder" or something to that effect. Then, every document kept in that folder would have version tracking on. This way it becomes easier to manage, save space on disk for documents that aren't important, and its not a big of an inconvenience.
Thats actually really interesting, thanks for the tidbit. I do wonder if M$ did that on purpose to make it a pain for people to reverse engineer.......speaking of that, I wonder how many bugs and security holes are a result of them attempting to keep their code so closed source its rediculous. Thats an interesting thought.
Ha, I just read yesterday (sorry no link, but this is true) that kids are bagging mothballs and huffing them to get high, some even go to the point of consuming them? WTF, mothballs? Wow....
Maybe you should pull the gnome out of your ass and develop a sense of humor? It was a joke, if you don't think its funny (yes it was damn corny, so what) then ignore it, don't bother flaming me - kthxbye
are the Americans making it hard for themselves on purpose ?
Have you seen our gov'ts actions lately? How about big business? Yes, Americans make it harder on themselves on purpose it seems, though its not the little man's call.
Not sure what you have to invest but I would stock up on Ramen noodles, you'll be eating them for a couple years:P
On a more serious note, I am in the same boat as you. I moved off campus to save money by paying for my own apartment, so I got an internship, but made more than 10 grand last year, so didn't get as much grant money:(
So now I'm stuck paying more in tuition, even though the money I make, more than half of it is direct non-avoidable living expense (rent, electric, gas, etc). And no, I don't drive a frivilous car, I have a rusting 95 dakota who's engine needs rebuilt badly, and a 1982 motorcycle.
Haha, some of the episodes of that show are absolutely rediculous, ie: when he shot the homeless guy with a paintball gun in the face. Or, when he slept with the coat room girl during his wedding reception. Quite hilarious.
That's the problem with pay-for-performance - it invites abuse.
Actually, I would say that both for an employers point of view and from a consumers point of view, the problem with pay-for-performance is you pay ahead of time. If you paid based on the quality of someones performance or the quality of the movie you'd just seen, I'll be you'd get better performance and better movies/games.
Quite funny how the insightful (or rather funny) post gets modded troll, but the troll gets modded insightful. Oh the world of slashdot, let mac zealotry live forever!!
Am I the only one that read "maturation" as "masturbation". Gosh, and its monday morning too.

Just my 2 cents.
I would love to play around with her box........FreeBSD box that is.
And no, I'm not wearing a tin foil hat.

Made me chuckle, dont think I ever heard that one.

Yes, maybe they should shrink the tubes, that should cut back on the botnets.
