When I'm helping someone with a Windows system (I keep that as rare an event as possible), I still see similar nonsense. Windows XP's setup will allow me to partition hard drives #1 and #2, but WON'T let me format them there, and I have to put them in another system to do that part.
Boot into the recovery console first, format the drive(s) of choice, restart and go into setup, install windows. Much faster than pulling the drive and placing it in another machine.

I think the long lag for cell phones is because of the monthly fee - not a cheap one either. People are more likely to make one-time purchases of things they don't necessarily need, but signing a contract for something you may/may not use and have to pay monthly for not based on how much you use it (unless of course you use it to much :P).

  9. Manufacturer's Fault on The Business Model of Ubuntu · · Score: 1

People were sure quick to jump all over poor Ubuntu, without doing any research at all apparently. I happen to have a laptop I wanted to put it on, but it has a Broadcom 4306 wireless chipset, and an ATI 320m video chipset. Guess what? Neither have supported drivers, and why is that you ask? Well it is DEFINATELY not Ubuntu's programmers fault, its the product manufacturers who refuse to write drivers for linux, and also refuse to open up things / provide details to those who want to write drivers for them.

As for other things people (in general, not necessarily here) bitch about, such as off-the-cd mp3 and dvd support, there are legal reasons that they cannot provide this - not b/c they are incompetent, or lazy, but they legally cannot do it.

One last note to people bitching about unsupported hardware, would you rather spend XX dollars on a new, supported wireless card, or spend XXX dollars on windows XP (or soon vista.....or not so soon, whichever)? The decisions is yours, but you are ignorant to blame Ubuntu, its Ok to file a bug report, but the blame goes to the manufacturers.

  10. How This Could Work on Microsoft Adds Risky System-Wide Undelete to Vista · · Score: 1

This would be great if it was, for example, its own "type of folder" or something to that effect. Then, every document kept in that folder would have version tracking on. This way it becomes easier to manage, save space on disk for documents that aren't important, and its not a big of an inconvenience.

    Just my 2 cents.
