Two billion out of two trillion per year in taxes (at current rates) isn't that big of an issue IMO. It's not just the exploration, but the additional research and innovation to solve complex out of the normal issues with space exploration.
Yes, spending is beyond revenue numbers, but I don't think this two billion would do the job to bring it down. Go look at streamlining health care or tax collection. And if there is a surplus, give me my money back.
If I were a windows user and was duped into purchasing Vista, I'd request a refund as soon as Windows 7 hits the streets. Not that $bill would give it to them obviously.
I firmly believe that Barack Obama is going to bring the change we need to alter the way the world see us. We need to earn back a little of our reputation that the eight previous years have lost us. We need to talk, discuss, and use diplomacy instead of force.
I'm very glad that Obama won. I sincerely hope that he can keep all his promises he made to the American people, and with control of the house and senate, it looks likely that he won't have any trouble passing bills.
It's tough to discuss problems with groups who's first statement is "Kill all Westerners."
And by "won't have any trouble passing bills" I assume your happy that he'll be able to raise taxes.
Please don't believe the hype of "I'll only tax the rich" since there are so many things wrong with that statement.
I thought the First Amendment allowed me to bitch until my heart is content.
By choosing not to vote I *am* making my statement: I don't like the candidates or the system.
If you think the First Amendment gives you the right to bitch, but you don't like the system that gives you that right?
I will assume you mean the dual-party system that is in place?
Personally, I like Washington's quote about parties in his farewell address
GEORGE WASHINGTON, Farewell Address, Sep. 17, 1796
However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.
That is what he is being charged with. Not sentenced to. I'm sure that will change as long as he has a decent lawyer. A felony is a felony. Write your elected official and request to have the laws changed.
Hmmmm. And Sarah Palin's $150,000 was also good fiscal prudence, too?
I'm not voting for her either way, but I fail to see why people pounce on her for this. She's a public figure that is engaging in the mother of all popularity contests. Like it or not, appearance makes a HUGE difference to the American people. That $150,000 is an investment in her campaign plain and simple. If she stood up there in K-mart clothes people would have perceived her as less sophisticated.
Essentially, consider it part of the advertising budget. When you're trying to sell yourself to a nation packaging is important.
Exactly. I'm sure Obama, Biden, and McCain are all wearing $99.00 "Suit in a sack."
Who is "we" anyways? Everything you purchase has an environmental cost. The system and electricity you used to post on/. has an environmental cost.
So it's a choice, enjoy life now and make it as comfortable as possible, or stress your life away because of 'global warming' and other natural events that scientists have little understanding about. Life on Earth will end. Will humans be here when that takes place. I seriously doubt it. If we eek out a 100 million years, I'll be surprised. A nice sized caldera or asteroid could end things much quicker.
What about my situation, where I have to store ~ 1TB of unique data per office in 3 offices that are roughly 1000 km apart and I have to keep everything backed up with a budget of less than ~AU$ 4000 IN TOTAL?
Well, it appears as though your employer has put a price on his/her data. So as long as your employer understands that as the cost goes down, chance of data loss goes up. So the real issue is the ones who write the checks should understand how much value they place on their data.
And what if I don't like either service. Where's the 3rd company? Oh, that's right, companies aren't allowed to lay their own fiber - government restriction. You call this competition?
I wouldn't say the government can prevent usage of easements for cabling. But they sure can make it a pain in the ass for the company. However, should they prevent usage of the easements, that could be fought in court. So to use easements, you should have some cash in the bank.
Though I agree this is not going to be a fun time watching my retirement funds shrink, the last number I seen that this would cost the US would be 2 trillion dollars. That is roughly 9% of the GDP. Bad, yep. Unrecoverable, not even in the least.
The bigger issue yet again is people. If folks lose confidence in the markets, they will fail regardless of the money that is or isn't there.
Keep your chin up. The US has been through worse and will get through this as well. Yes, it sucks for those of us not having influence in this. And there is plenty of blame to go around. So I say instead of crying too long about it, we pay the tab, fix the rules, and forge ahead.
Perhaps I'm confused, but conducting government business via private email is illegal? I think it depends on the nature of the government business. I.e. if it's sensitive information.
Listen, I am no lover of the McCain-Palin ticket I can assure you
The premise is really not needed for the argument. This is about privacy like you stated. Supporting Palin's privacy does not incriminate you as a supporter. Though I could understand why you would fear that happening.
And if you "love" either party, then that would be a concern to me. Party this, party that. Who really cares? (other then the far righties/lefties) Just do a good job and stop taking my money.

Which god? What exactly is a god, what are it's properties?
Paddy Power is just looking for one with omnipresence.
The god in my pants. And yes, it does have omnipresense.

This thread is going to be painful.

Sad, but what to do about it? Elect Obama? I don't think that's much of a solution.
I heard he can save the World...and he can fly. I will say that nothing leaves the shores without an elected official getting their cut.
It's because being tough in America is more important than being effective. See crime & punishment, military spending, Iraq invasion, etc.
Hopefully, 'etc' means health plans, social security, welfare, etc...
I took your statement to be quite a bit one-sided. The government should spend less, across the board.
That is what he is being charged with. Not sentenced to. I'm sure that will change as long as he has a decent lawyer. A felony is a felony. Write your elected official and request to have the laws changed.
... they base their result on a sample of 72 persons within an age range from 23 to 80.
Science at its best.

Yea, because we all backup 12TB of home data to an offsite location.
Duh. It's called Pr0n.

And it's obvious you are in the "more advanced" polar bear column.
Not anything they want. There is an approval process and I think it has to provide a public service. I.e. phone, water, gas, cable, etc....
True. But you really can't start any business without capital of some kind. (minus the "did my own web page pimping out my coder skills")
And with the credit market like it is....well, it'll be a while for new business growth.

They are except when it happens to a republican then its all ok. Had this been Obamas' e-mail account they would be up in arms.
Don't be an idiot. Let those running for office be the idiots....per usual.
Put it in nonsensical pop music format. And keep it shorter then 3 minutes.
