    Xara has pro's and con's...

A major pro would be bring desktop publishing into the linux realm, and a little away from Mac. But again.. this is more a commerical market then home market. I thought Linux should be breaking into home markets as a desktop OS.

And here's a con: I don't see how this is going to do it. Joe-six pack doesn't really need vector drawing. Joe-six pack wants his digital-camera picture editing software.

But kudos for getting more commerical markets interested in OSS/Linux

  12. Law's effect? on ESA to Sue California Over Violent Game Law · · Score: 1

Has this law really changed anything?

It seems to me this is against clerks and stores and not consumer rights. A store clerk is liable for selling booze to minors. So doesn't this make store clerks legally liable for underage sale of GTA to 12 year olds? I get ID'ed buying rated R movies in most stores (I'm 22). Isn't this the same thing?

What I don't get is why this law made it past (even) semi-sane legislation. It looks like a knee jerk reaction to "Hot Coffee". But even more so, kids will use the same old ways to get the games.

Since Mortal Kombat came with a voluntary warning sticker, to the ERSB... kids just get the older sibling or parent to buy it for them. Or just get a copy from friends...

So again? What?s this law's practical "real world" effect?

Oh WOW! Star Trek is number 1... didn't see that coming.

But seriuosly.... Voyager was 14 and Xena 12...thats some serious BS!!
Voyager had its slow moments, but season 3 and on was awesome scifi. NextGen doesn't hold a candle to it. I've never seen Dr. Cursher on the level of Holo-Doc trying to retake a stolen fedration ship from romulans (so funny). (It's ironiclly the only time I found andy dick funny too.)Plus, Picard is wuss captian, solves most all his problems by sending worf, riker and data to deal with it. Whilst he sits and attempts to have witty conversation with Crusher. But Janeway drove her ship into the temporal time ship to end a temporal loop, Picard causes them left and right.

Next Gen was pathetic in its presentation. Picard mostly was the problem. Spineless captain, with no "fight it out" ability. He was no Kirk... but I give Next Gen some things, Data, Q, and the borg. Only redeeming parts of the show.

(Go ahead you next gen zealots... mod me a troll... but secertly you know right!)

Okay folks.. My first thought was: "How cool! At least not all artist's (I'm looking at you metallica) are all about money and not the art". But here's another thought. Most artists only make around $2 profit (I've read that somewhere, sorry I can't source it) per album. The rest of the 15 bucks go to production, marketing, studios, and guess who? The RIAA! So this could be the first case where the RIAA sues AN ARTIST! With all the P2P music trading lawsuits... I think the RIAA has the grounds here. The Artist could be called pirates for detailing how to bypass the DRM. Plus the OSS software is now at risk of a RIAA lawsuit. I'm no lawyer so I may be off base here but I do think the next Slashdot headline will be "RIAA Sues Switchfoot". -Digital Madman
