Did you know that if, today, you went and tried to translate the original Genesis story into English today it could have 4 or more meanings? The Bible you read is the most *probable* meaning but it is NOT the only meaning that Moses could have intended when writing it.
Ok, serious question here, not an attack.
Is that statement used as an excuse for selective belief for what appears in the Bible?
For example, in RSV Exodus 31:15 it says "whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death". So, do you believe that anyone who works on the Sabbath day really should be put to death, or do you chose to ignore that part due to "inaccurate translation"?
What is your criteria for what you believe and don't believe? Is it convenience or a more honest set of rules?
This site is about new spam, not accuracy, so keep your hopes down. Gems like this hidden in the muck of Microsoft bug articles (which are needed to pay the bills) still make Slashdot useful.
I have a Blackberry and I love it. For one, when I'm off somewhere, I'm at ease because I always know what's going on. My email comes to me instead of me having to go check for it. Also, I have a newer model, so not only can I surf the web, I can hook it into my laptop and get a quality, mobile, internet connection.
People complain about Blackberries tethering them to the office, but mine gives me freedom. For example, I now visit family more often, and can take the more than occasional long weekend. If I'm at a down moment such as sitting in a car (not driving) or bumming in front of the TV, I can get a little work done here and there. If I'm really busy not being busy, then I can still turn the thing off and toss it in the corner.
Some people misuse new technology and others just like to whine about it, but whatever, my Blackberry is a definite plus when it comes to quality of life for me.
The local best Buy has gotten crappier over the last few years.
They've gone from almost always having what I am looking for to almost never having what I am looking for.
A simple USB mouse? Nope, just wireless and the $70 gamer mice. Off to Staples
A new PC game? Nope, ours never seems to have games on release. Off to Eb Games
A cheap cable? Nope, just a $50 Geek Squad version. Off to Wal-mart for the $10 version
Maybe they should be focusing on making the games fun to play, instead of entertaining to watch?
I can't believe cynical overgeneralizations still get modded up around here. There's a lot of noise out there, but also some killer fun games. The emerging cinematic elements aren't a substitution for fun, but a huge addition to the ones which do it right.
There was 60+ students standing around. If you ever see something like this happening, and you don't help, then you are just as bad as the police were in this case.
It was non-lethal force. If someone were to "help", then that allows the cops to use lethal force to protect themselves. Bad idea.
The students did the best thing by watching and videoing the thing. We need to keep civility and let law enforcement do their job. If you disagree, then the courtroom and legislation are your tools to try and fix the problem.
Now...if the cops were causing permanent harm to the guy AND the guy posed no danger to anyone, then helping is justified and should be expected.
It only affects people who would use the Java source code itself. Does not affect people who develop applications in Java or people who use Java applications. So...a prime example of someone who would be affected would be Microsoft. They have their Java implementation in.NET. If they were to replace their implementation with Sun's, by hooking into the actual source code, they would also be bound by the GPL.
I really think this is a good use of the GPL. Something as high profile as Java would be a huge target for "embrace and extend", and this protects
I periodically rebuild my Windows machines, however, sometimes I get lazy and put it off.
Thanks to this new feature, however, Vista will automatically notify me when its time to rebuild!
They still continue to work hard to implement the CSS2 spec which came out 8 and a half years ago.
I'm excited to see if they can implement CSS3 in time for my retirement in 30 years.
Keep your node to the grindstone kids, I know you'll get there!
Nice and dramatic, but not really true. I have a hard time with the champion of free imposing so many restrictions. GNU this, GNU that, viral useage rules.
but without his conviction we would all be locked into proprietary products.
He's definitely had an effect of free software, and its course would be different without him, but I hardly think the world would be so dismal. He built some development tools then started on these grand projects which seem to share the development cycle of Duke Nukem Forever. The academic community shares stuff anyway, so Linux would have still existed, it just wouldn't use the GPL as we know it. The sharing of ideas is hardly a recent concept.
I'm not saying the guy isn't important, but he's closer to just a colorful character than a critical path guy in computer history (such as John von Neumann)

I carry my cell phone in my pants pocket. Is it safe?
Yeah, I do too, but only because I keep it on vibrate mode

So you want Linux to only be used by "geeks" and have *less* market penetration?
Nah, he just doesn't want his "1337ness" to go away as people realize that these things really aren't as difficult as they seem
It's one of those 'cool' phrases that nerds like to use. Kinda like 'attack vector'.

Am I missing something?
Yes, you are missing the conspiracy theory. There is always a conspiracy man.
Always order the bacon.
Mmmmmmm..... bacon...... ahhahhahahhhhhh....
Just off the top of my head...
- How did that engine avoid multiplications?
Creative bit shifts and additions?
- How did it compute sine and cosines?
lookup tables?
- What low-level hardware trick did it use in two-player mode, and how could that be used for performance tuning?
Eh? need more info, or do I need to look at the links to understand the question?
...why the sight of a bare female breast is forbidden while depictions of horrific violence are fine.
Many of them actually do speak English

It's a game for non gamers.
I hated it too because I couldn't find anything to kill in the first 30 seconds.

Umm...ok

He also has a misdemeanor charge of posting in the wrong thread.
Lovely. If the developers are making dumbass rookie mistakes like that (blind String replacements), I'd love to see a security audit of their site.
Remember, it's not a bug, it's a feature.

but I can't imagine anybody being interested in some Libyan child's schoolwork.
How about the Libyan children hacking into each other's laptops?
