    The article is dead but there are a few more things to take into account bar base cost .
    The electricity costs , (Can't see how much more hungry it is ) but the Summary says a lot more so i can only assume a difference of 50W which over the course of a year can really add up if it's a server and/or always on.
    how valuable is your processing time ,This is another major issue .Again no benchmarks , but the term " thoroughly thrashed" is not promising.
    All of these things can really add up over a servers life span . Plus many things I have not accounted for.

    A short term saving perhaps , but long term .. well I surmise you may not be saving that much if anything . Perhaps it may even turn out to be more expensive .

    Anti trust avoidance is an ability gained that allows you to use money to pay off officials whilst avoiding Charges for bribery

    For the first bit I had to go with the new fangled 3.5 rule-set .. which i browsed over , I don't think I have actually played DnD for 15 years or so . My memory could be rusty.

    I am sitting using KDE on a 400 MHz G3 right now , whilst it is not exactly lightning it certainly is not that painful to use . .It runs perfectly on my 1.25 GHz G4 and on my 1.9 Ghz Athlon laptop with 512MB of ram ..

    Yes but saying that , you could just use something like fluxbox or even TWM(to go to an extreme) , Which both perform brilliantly on today's hardware .. They even perform wonderfully on 10+ year old hardware .
    Even things like Xfce perform wonderfully on old hardware ., So you can imagine how well they perform on up to date hardware .
    Performance is not something to worry about in desktop environments, we don't need better performing WM/DEs (even KDE can run fairly well on a p2 ) .

    What we perhaps need is an improved UI in some things (personal preference ).No gain in this sector will likely appear from this initiative , considering the way most Mobile devices handle input .

    Disagreeing with someone's politics is not always a reason to not read their works (though invariably people add their on spin on any story they write ,which could make it less enjoyable for an opposing view point) ,However I would not pay for any services he provides or books he writes ,due to the fact he may use the money to lobby . I don't want to fund people with views like that .

    The patch seems to have been in the full article since conception , but apparently it hadn't passed down the line .
    these exploits are dangerous as many Slashdoters refuse to update their knowledge by reading the full article and not just the summary

    Naturally , Hubbard was an acolyte of Crowleys . Something of which most Scientologists are unaware .
    He was apparently not that good and a bit of a disappointment to the Thelamic order .
    Talking about that , Crowley did in fact work for MI6 and the American Intelligence agencies during WW2 helping with discovering some of the Nazi occult activities.

    I was going to get an iPod for my birthday anyway . I heard that the new Video enabled iPods were out and my first though was "Bonus".
    All this talk about it being a bad move is rather redundant , It's an iPod with a better form factor , A bigger HDD(in the cheaper version) and it plays videos .
    I am currently re-ripping my DVDs in anticipation.

    It would have been a bad move if:
    • It was a separate product
    • It cost more
    • It didn't play music

    The fact is :it is just an extension to the current model ,it costs the same , It has the same functionality plus some new fangeld video features and it has a better form factor .

    The Rapture has been predicted on several thousand dates over the last 1600 years or so (Perhaps a little longer)
    Around each of those times , about all of these things have occurred .The List of Anti-Christs is rather impressive also .

    Bird Flu has not yet Mutated in this way .
    Here's another few thing that the Media could run with .
    There is a chance (however miniscule ) that HIV could mutate into an airborne virus .
    There is a chance that the common flu could mutate into a form where it could potentially become near fatal in 90% of cases.
    Malaria could mutate and start killing us all off .
    An Asteroid could hit the planet and wipe us out.
    An accident could occur and set off a few nuclear war heads and start a Nuclear Holocaust .
    The Apes could evolve and enslave humanity .
    Tom Cruise could make another movie .

    Start buying up your tinned food now , move underground and isolate yourself .

    If you want to use Linux , don't buy ATI.
    Nvidia's 2d quality is excellent these days (under Linux and OS X at least , not sure about Windows ) and certainly on par with ATI, it does not really compare to Matrox cards (in my opinion) though.
    Looking at recent benchmarks , if you want the best performance then you should go with Nvidia ,if you want to have good cross platform support Again Nvidia , If you want a fancy 3D mark score then ATI is a good option .
