I made a post on my journal so hopefully i will start to colate some info on if its as soon as i get any reports back , As for now i am assuming its a server issue (i think perrins homepage and technocrat are on the same server , not sure though) so it may be a hardware/software problem or it may have come under attack etc.
I am sure we would have heard if it was closing down
I do agree that people will tell them where to shove it eventualy , i am just suprised so many people don't already. I prefer to call it vigilance as opposed to paranoia , Though i often am overly vigilant . The problem as i see it , is so far most people are not aware how far thet try to push it,So unless it gets mainstream attention people will not mind.
I think you just did. personly it gave me a good chuckle (+3 funny). The nature of slashdot really allows us to put our views down on the story in words as opposed to numbers. I found the story intresting as its good to see that atleast some trivial time-wasting lawsuits go down the pan. Though your post raised an intresting point on should slashdot storys be subject to moderation. It would be great if they were , it would allow us to filter storys even further.
I wouldn't take Cowboyneils comments to heart though,i think it was a just a quip.
I ment that as more of a worst case scenario (1984),as it really is what the term "Thought theives " envokes in my mind.
Each and every year they try to slowly gnaw away further at the fair use provisions , It looks like this year they are full steam ahead with the propanagand.
A few weeks back i sold a copy of Windows over ebay , i got theversion ( a full version witha license key , just hapend to be labeld recovery version. I dont use windows myself so i had no use for it) with a laptop i bought,.
Now i had already phoned microsoft to ask them their position on this which was a blunt "No you cant do that"(it was labeld so as to prohibit resale) , so i decided to phone a freind and who works as a lawyer in this general field,His response was rather difrent , He cited me a few trade laws and resale clauses etc and basicaly said he was 100% sure it was perfectly acceptable to do so. MS is not alone in this , Fairly soon with enough lobying they will probably take one more step at eatting away at fair use. I imagine next if things continue like this commercial software will have the legal right to demand 1 install per purchase ( no reinstallation , on a repair install) .
cheers , i just did it with google due to being rather lazy on saturdays, My German is not perfect(only been living here since 2002 and learning German as i go), i doubt i could of translated it anywhere near as well manualy as that .
Or even better during the award cermony , a women in some skimpy athletics get up, will run down the middle of the hall way and chuck an onld Mac at bill gates head.

Currently in my mind i am breaking a hell of alot of copyright laws. Songs that get stuck in my head , many many ideas , Songs i remember. I occasionaly hum a tune thats most likely copyrighted. I have an idea that may already be patent.
When you start labeling copyright/patent infringment Thought theft then your walking on a really dodgy line. it really does sound incredibly facist. We should be teaching children to share and help others , instead we are teaching them suspicion and greed.. Way to go microsoft..
I really hope alot of kids send MS vidios depicting facist states Abusing its citizens in some cyber punk future where your thoughts are monitored. as it was the first thing that came to my mind when i heard thought thieves
I do wonder if the backwards compatability with the Xbox 360 had anything to do with their purchase of connectix in february\march 2003(which was mainly for virtual PC and to be able to sell windows to mac users). It looks like the plans were already well underway by that time to use PowerPC based procesors in the Xbox 360. I know most of the VirtualPC codebase is mac specific , but alot of it could be adapted for the purposes of the xbox 360. I still don't see how they will manage it without some form of speed hit , if they do manage atall. well , we shall have to wait and find out .
With IBMs large scale support for OSS , and its moves to replace the windows desktops with linux not to mention its sale of the PC business , Its only natural that they would move people on to an open browser. What will be intresting to see is if this has a knock on effect to other large corperation as IBM is still very very influential.
This more than anything could be the break firefox needs toward wide scale acceptance beyond the 10%.Acceptance in the corperate market would mean a great deal of people will be using firefox at work , which would perhaps have the knock on effect of them using it at home.
When firefox has more than 30% of the market perhaps then we could relax in the knowlidge that most sites would then see fit to not specialise their code for IE.
Well its not connect to an outside line so it should be ok, and im fairly sure i can trust everyone here , but better safe than sorry as i do use OpenSSl . cheers
I was thinking of replacing it with an xserve anyway , suppose this will atleast give me something to present to the PHB that can eassily be blown out of proportion and push for that lovely new server i have had my eye on;)

heh , Sorry about the bad joke i just had to get it out the way as we can be prepared for several years of them. What if you straped 3 Xbox 360s together and used them for a snowboard , could nintendo sue.
Indeed the games are the key , You can have the best hardware in the world but if your games are too few in number(see the neo-geo) , too expensive (see the neo-geo again)or too poor quality/all the same(see the neo-geo although it did have some great fighting games , but that was nearly all it had), then all you have is a nice expensive DVD player that dosn't fit in the tv shelf.

is it a problem with the kernels use of it , that artical is rather vauge on the details. For Mac users the Nightly builds also sorts a few problems. The browser is much smother , the middle mouse buttons works for things like auto scroll , open in a new tab and close tabs. Also the menu interface has been redone and is far more hetrogeneous to the os X enviroment. I tried out 1.0.4 and the mac problems above seemed not to be fixed so the nightly builds do provide a far more comfertable browsing experiance on os X
Having seen many Art-house movies and heard many small scale bands , i can honestly say they both have nearly as much rubbish as hollywood and the music industry(plenty of good stuff too though). A hell of alot of great freebooks though and rarely have i come across a load of tripe( i mainly read referance).

Though i do agree the current trend is for alot of tripe , but i try to never judge something based on where its from only on what it is
