Hey, it's the dad-blamed government and money-grubbing food corporations. If everyone wasn't so damned greedy with no actual regard for quality of life, we might could get something decent. Everything's so over-processed that nothing's actually good for you these days. I found some juice the other day http://www.simplyorangejuice.com/ without HFCS, just plain old sugar (gasp!). I bought one bottle of each kind they had, and tried them. You're right, there IS a difference in taste and it had been so long since I had something sweetened the right way that I'd not even noticed it up to this point. This juice is worth the extra money. Pity no sodas will go this route.

I'm talking about the US right now, not China and India, and yes, I do believe that a lot of medicine these days is unnatural. And as far as fertility treatments--yes, people are absolutely going too far. Think about it. A couple cannot have children. Ever think maybe they just weren't meant to and they should focus their energies elsewhere, like maybe adopting a child in need of a home? Instead, insurance (read, the taxpayers money) pays for fertility treatments, and then the government also pays them money when they end up with 5 or 6 children because of the way the treatments can sometimes work.
The point is that people are so selfish these days that they'll disregard what happens naturally and the burden on others for their own gain, and that's wrong.

Not just sugar, but high fructose corn syrup. Plain old sugar actually wouldn't be nearly as bad for you.

    http://www.westonaprice.org/modernfood/highfructos e.html

    from the article...
"Until the 1970s most of the sugar we ate came from sucrose derived from sugar beets or sugar cane. Then sugar from corn--corn syrup, fructose, dextrose, dextrine and especially high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)--began to gain popularity as a sweetener because it was much less expensive to produce. High fructose corn syrup can be manipulated to contain equal amounts of fructose and glucose, or up to 80 percent fructose and 20 percent glucose.2 Thus, with almost twice the fructose, HFCS delivers a double danger compared to sugar."

    and

"However, research on other hormonal factors suggests that fructose actually promotes disease more readily than glucose. Glucose is metabolized in every cell in the body but all fructose must be metabolized in the liver."
