Do you not realize that open wireless APs are UBIQUITOUS? I've picked up *MANY* driving through Arizona, in the middle of the desert. Especially in an open area like desert, that signal can go for much further distances than specification allows. I've picked up wifi directly from I-10, the nearest building being about a kilometer away. Yea, only one bar and sounded like a busted vinyl AND I had to hold it just outside of the car's window, but IT STILL WORKED. Most GAS STATIONS IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE (population 5) HAVE WIRELESS.
The few spots where the PSP didn't work, guess what? My cell phone didn't work there, either.
What part of "Without Permission" do you not understand. I tell it when to turn my computer off. It does not arbitrarily decide to do without *MY EXPLICIT PERMISSION*
Read the thing in it's entirety. Let's go to terms, here, just the specific ones that would apply in my case.
(2) the term "protected computer" means a computer (B) which is used in interstate or foreign commerce or communications. impairment to the integrity or availability of data, a program, a system, or information; Key word IMPAIRMENT.
(11) the term 'loss' includes any reasonable cost to any victim, including the cost of responding to an offense, conducting a damage assessment, and restoring the data, program, system, or information to its condition prior to the offense, and any revenue lost, cost incurred, or other consequential damages incurred because of interruption of service; and
(12) the term 'person' means any individual, firm, corporation, educational institution, financial institution, governmental entity, or legal or other entity.
"Is a masters in computer engineering better than two years of experience at a company?"
If that two years of experience is actually teaching at a company (like I taught new hires laptop repair,) it might be better than the Master's Degree, as you're already teaching in a mega-million dollar environment and you've been recognized to have the skills to be usable as an internal trainer. Looks great on the resume.
Otherwise, most companies will look for that piece of paper, and then proceed to place you in a section not relevant to your degree. What was the last figure; 70-80% of people with college degrees have a job that isn't related to their degree, or something like that? Get that Master's in Computer Science and you'll get put in Marketing.
At minimum get a Bachelor's Degree and a few certifications that you can keep up to date.
"Why would people hate Microsoft for making available a free release candidate of their new OS that can be used with no restriction for the next 11 months?"
Because while Microsoft has every right to disable their software, they have NO LEGAL RIGHT to turn my computer on or off. That is *MY* hardware. You turn it off without my permission and I will have you in court for unlawful trespass, unauthorized computer access, unauthorized use of property, and a whole slew of other Federal charges.
How long until someone decides that a piece of software has no business shutting down physical hardware and tries suing Microsoft for unlawful trespass? They may have a right to shut down their software but to force a full physical shutdown of a machine is beyond their legal boundaries. This is my CPU, my power supply, my RAM, you have no business turning it off without me saying so. Disable your software all you want. Start fucking with my physical property and trespassing charges will be laid down.
What the fuck are you talking about? Most shit now days is color-coded and pre-assembled so you don't have to do exactly what you mention.
It's actually been like that for well over 15 years. Steep learning curve my ass. I trained 50+ years old women that couldn't program a VCR to save their lives how to strip and repair a laptop, then re-assemble it in under 20 minutes. It only took two weeks and no steep learning curve required (The only "steep learning curve" is the fucking terminology, which usually has no plain-english counterpart.)
I proved this several weeks ago comparing the $999 13" Macbook (the only $999 laptop avaiable from the Apple website) versus my $999 DV9825.
You get less hardware and less features in the 13" Macbook compared to my 17" DV9825. If you wanted EVERYTHING that my DV9825 had built-in, you have to pay an easy extra half-grand, and that's *NOT* including the dongle you have to buy for video-out on the macbook, or paying extra for the remote control (which comes standard with my laptop) nor do you get dual hard drive bays, and you certainly don't get the ability to swap out your graphics card like I can on my laptop. (Hooray MXM slot!)
Oh, and my DV9825NR comes with Firewire. No base-line macbook does.
"Sony Computer Entertainment have said no though."
No. No way. Ever heard of this little program called Skype? Guess which Sony console it's on? The PSP. They already HAVE phone capabilities. Non-knowledgeable fools don't know this.
Hell the PSP has hardware for VIDEO CHAT. Let me see an iPhone properly designed for such a purpose. Hint: you won't, because of how the iPhone is designed.
"By the time you get your game loaded, you're already at your bus stop."
Quit using the PSP-1000, then. And did you HONESTLY expect fast loading times off of a tiny-ass proprietary optical disc from first-gen? SERIOUSLY?
On the PSP-2000 and better, loading times jumped dramatically.
"Not to mention that the games tend to have the long-gameplay sensibilities of a home console rather than a portable system."
At least they got that part correct. You can't find QUALITY like that on a fucking home console any longer. At least it can be found SOMEWHERE. (150+ hours on Crisis Core for PSP vs 50 or so hours for any new RPG out there, minus Disgaea 3.) But then I'd assume you like wasting your money on short-lived games with very little staying power with the way you phrase your comment.
Now what I find amusing is they're looking at a playstation-based platform for a phone. Guys, you already have Skype built-in with your PSP-2000 and better.
I use it ALL THE TIME and iPhone fools are flabbergasted when they see me whip it out and make a phone call. "Hey, I don't pay a premium for this like you do with your iPhone. I pay $30/yr and that's that to make phone calls. You pay that monthly? Fool."
If you could just make a little CDMA or 3G stick that would work with the PSP for cellular calling then you'd be set. There is no need to go ahead and design anther piece of hardware. Tweak the shit you already have, Sony!

I will DESTROY DRM. EA is just my first target. I am tired of people making shit that restricts how I use *MY HARDWARE* and I'm going to one way or another get real laws passed to enforce the security and full control of my property.
Microsoft will be next. I have enough video footage to destroy their entire "Get The Facts" campaign, exposing it for the solid lie that it is. I can prove how Microsoft lies saying they are new and improved when in reality they've just restricted us even further.
Anybody else want to give me some backup? I've made the first move, how about the rest of you stand up and start doing stuff?
You're using base WDM drivers. Live!/Audigy 1 support was discontinued before Vista shipped and is no longer a supported product. There are no drivers to actually allow full usage of the EAX on a Live! or Audigy under Vista or W7. Your WDM drivers may allow line-in unmuting but you just lost all the EAX capability.
Or you could just ask around in Japan what the hot shit really is. The iPhone bombed over there, because there are more powerful and more capable phones made there.
Trent wields the confidence of MILLIONS of people. Remember the outcry the Dixie Chicks caused criticizing the war? Trent could cause the same thing.
Take a closer look a history and see just what celebrities can do. *cough* RONALD REAGAN IN THE WHITE HOUSE *cough*
"That doesn't make the case any less absurd, though."
You just proved you don't even know the facts of the case with that statement. Any reasonable person would see the facts and could NEVER come to that conclusion. So to help you out, I point you to this slashdotter's comment for correction and re-education.
Thermodynamics. That's what happened to make third degree burns. 180 degrees on your skin for a couple of seconds will turn you crab red, keep it there much longer and you de-nature the proteins around that area and third degree burns start forming.
Past 200 degrees and you start getting charring plus damage to muscle, tendon and ligament, which is the realm of 4th degree burns
The source for McD's coffee is *MUCH* better than Starbucks. The only reason the McD's might taste like utter crap is because they've not done proper maintenance on the coffee machine and not pre-filtered the water used for brewing (or they fucked up and gave you decaf instead of your regular coffee.)
I can actually stand to eat McD's coffee RAW out of the bag. Starbucks coffee tastes like ass, it's too bitter.
And I have grown coffee before, I know what it's supposed to taste like. Starbucks has it wrong.

I wish Trent would realize his power and wield it.
Vista isn't slow? Tell me why my slimmed Vista still takes longer to be usable after boot versus my XP or even my 98 machine.
Yep, my P3 533MHz 256MB PC-133 4200RPM 20GB ATA-100 system running 98 boots faster than Vista on my dual-core 64-bit 1.83 GHz 4GB PC-5300 5400RPM 320GB SATAII laptop.
MenuetOS boots in just three seconds. It's only 1.4 megs in size.
Vista is SLOW. Far slower than ALMOST any other OS I've ever tried.
XP does more than Vista or 7 can, for me at least. I rather value the ability to unmute my line-in and actually monitor what the SBLive! EAX is doing to my guitar effects-wise. Vista and 7 don't allow this at all, purely as a means of trying to stop piracy.
Microsoft - More Bloat, Less Features, More Expensive, Less Personal Control.
That's a fact, Jack. Bet you won't find that on Microsoft's "Get The Facts" website. Every successive version gives you LESS CONTROL. I think anybody that upgraded from 98 to ME knows this, as well as those who tried to move to Win2K, only to find out DMA to video memory was not allowed compared to 95/98/ME.
Cover Letters. A waste of paper and space when all that really matters is my work history, my education, and what I'm asking to be paid.
