I think we need a dose of reality. Self contained reliable electric is way off. Probably not in my lifetime still. Stuff breaks. Solar cells won't last forever. There will also be spaces of bad days. Inverters will fail, all kinds of stuff can fail. Then what? Being without electric can really suck. It'll be like my earlier life - no computers, since we no longer have wired phones - no phones, all there is to do is look at each other in the dark. Most people don't even have kerosene lamps. If they have candles they don't know how to properly use them so the house is at risk. If there is a fire, again no phone to call for help.
I have a feeling we'll be hooked up for the foreseeable future.
Looking back at what I responded to, I have to wonder WTH you are talking about. Sounds like I was way beyond you? In just a few sentences and a reference to a definitive graph that shows a comparison to the past, which is precisely what he was arguing, I showed he was wrong.
No, you showed that you didn't understand what he said.
He specifically argued that CPI adjusted inflation was a shitty measurement. That the minimum wage shouldn't be pegged at it as a comparison. That it should be higher than simply CPI adjusted inflation equivalent.
You then used CPI adjusted inflation to show he was wrong. You basically entirely ignored his argument, and then gave a detailed graph of his first already given data point. It's not that complicated.
He makes argument that CPI adjusted inflation as an anchor for minimum wage vs. more historical levels makes the true minimum necessary to survive far too low.
You makes argument that a graph showing CPI adjusted inflation would make the minimum wage even lower means he is wrong
It was facepalm worthy. I'm still unsure how you don't understand.
It wasn't facepalm worthy. Honestly, I don't think you understand what either of us is saying and why. I have a feeling that it flew right over you.
He's trying to use minimum wage and adjust it such that anyone can go to college. He beats around the bush and then he says it in his last sentence. He says exactly that. So he's not interested in what's right, or what a minimum wage really is for. Neither are you it seems. The best way to school you would be to put you in charge of a business for a week, and you have to pay everyone. I bet when you're spending your own money instead of someone else's your tune will change considerably. To the point, why should I pay a kid, a high school kid "a living wage?" You're lucky if they'll even show up to work. If they do, you're often lucky if they do work. Don't believe me? Ask any retail manager. You may get an earful, some managers have some incredible stories. Now for college, how much is that? Way too many people are going to college these days. It makes finding trade people a bitch. Minimum wage was never meant to be a college wage. It was never meant to be a "living wage." It's the least you can pay some dumbass off the street. At one point, I was that dumbass off the street so I know about it. Not for long, I was promoted right up fast. I often doubled my hourly rate every time I moved. For years.
Let me put something in perspective. One of my college professors told me about India (this occurred in the 1980s). He said at the age of 12 they are given a test. That test determines if they will receive any more education. I asked grade 12 or 12 years old. He said 12 years old or about the 5th grade. Flunk that test and you're effectively done in life. By US standards, hit yourself in the head with a rock done unless you like to drink dirty water and have close to nothing for the rest of your life. We have no clue what poor really is like in the US. In the US we have education available to us until the 12th grade and a lot of kids act like it's a prison. My Son just about resented being sent to college. Sure seemed that way. Until I cut him off at 21. That was a real oh-shit moment for him. Point is, be careful what you wish for. Today we have colleges (college within a University that is) that you have to have a 4.0 average to get in, sometimes even higher they have so many people applying. At some point we'll have to cut people off. Used to do that with money. Do we really want politics to decide that? Where it has been tried, it never works. You have to want it. Just like business, you have to want it or you'll fail. I put myself through college. Graduated debt free. Then I had to pay my wife's loans off because she could get a loan. I couldn't. Being a woman it was automatic. Then we could discuss how much women actually use their college degree. Different (heated) discussion I suppose.
Used to be they had a rifle range in schools. Often in the basement. The late justice Scalia used to carry a gun to his school in NYC. Everyone knew how to shoot and how to properly treat a gun. It would cut violence down a great deal if we all knew about guns. Better yet, we should be able to carry if we want to.
Someone modded you flamebait instead of posting something with some thought. You're right, it is a grab bag. I've been accused twice and I'm a nobody. Both times I managed to prove they were lying. Both times they changed their story once I showed it couldn't have happened trying to save the claim. Both times they simply dug themselves a larger hole to get out of. So what happened to them? *NOTHING*. They get no penalty. I asked about it and a lawyer told me there's nothing I could do about it. He thought the chances of me winning something were about the same as being hit by lightning. I think I should be able to sue them personally and win big. This is a very personal attack and it's TERRIBLE to go through. Suppose I couldn't prove that they were lying? I would have been screwed.
I think we need to be protected from BS accusations.
I guess you haven't figured out that Trump didn't do any of those things. The Russian stuff has been shown to be a load of BS, or fake news. So was all the other stuff. He did a lot to help women over the years. If he were like that, we'd have no shortage of women willing to tell us about it. Not just one or two, that according to Wikileaks were very likely paid to do that. Seems the Democrats paid people to go to conventions and beat people up too. Typical fascist, socialist type BS. Just look at history.
I think you're right on about the VC stuff, however. This is a load of BS. It probably has a lot more to do with them making bad business decisions and then trying to shake down the VC for more money. Try the sexual Harrassment BS card. See if that'll work.
I've been accused twice and I'm a nobody. Fortunately in my case it was easy to prove that they were lying both times. But suppose it wasn't? I would have been screwed. Especially in some cases they fire first, then ask questions. Even if nothing happened, even if you can prove it, you're still screwed. Both times they changed their story to try to nail me. Both times they dug themselves in even more. Ultimately what happened to them? *NOTHING*, *ZIP*, *ZILCH*! No penalty for women accusing men. They're a victim or some BS. IMHO I should have been paid millions. Let me tell you, there is nothing like being accused and you didn't do it. I can't imagine what people go through that are falsely accused of murder, worse convicted. Life can really suck.
Lot of liars out there. Some people think women don't lie. Oh they do. I think they make some of the best liars.
The UX bros is what made the net great in the first place. Back when Windows was just a program loader and apple was new to the GUI. No, it's the Windows and the Apple bros that have their finger prints all over the crappy re-design.
I thought it was just me at first. Then I asked around. The only people that seemed to like it were the Windows people, then the Mac people. Even they didn't like it. What they had was good. Sure it could be improved, however what they have now is just terrible.
Great Britain's newest, largest,...best, wonderful... new aircraft carrier, it runs XP While The QE is a big ship, it only carries half the aircraft of the Gerald Ford.
Even though it's not the big boy on the block, this is one big, very capable ship. A lot to be proud of. So what do they run on the computers running the ship? Windows XP? Are they out of their gourd?
Looking back at what I responded to, I have to wonder WTH you are talking about. Sounds like I was way beyond you? In just a few sentences and a reference to a definitive graph that shows a comparison to the past, which is precisely what he was arguing, I showed he was wrong. It's even adjusted to today's dollars. I even showed it going all the way back to FDR's day, which was his base argument. IMHO, anyone can understand it if they try. Pull up the web site, grab it and you can go back and forth and see the minimum wage in dollars at the time and how much in today's dollars it is as adjusted. You'll see that even as adjusted, you're not going to get anywhere near $15/hour in today's money.
I supposed you could say I was showing how ridiculous he is. I stand by what I said, he's wrong.
Here's a comparison in today's money from how it was in the past - http://money.cnn.com/interacti... . Face it, you're wrong. I know, I know, it's CNN and we know they lie, like hell. However this seems to be right. According to that slider, you cannot make an argument for it being any more than $10/hour.
Could once again be green. They've found hippos, crocks and such in the desert. 2000 years ago the oceans were a lot higher than they are now. Romans used to grow grapes in England, places in Greenland are emerging out of the ice that are about 700 years old. We're coming out of an ice age. CO2 is a symptom, not a cause.
There is no question that they'll uphold Trump's EO. He has that right under the law. It's been done before, Carter, even Obama. Under Eisenhower especially. The only reason there was ever a stay is because they did judge shopping and took it to a circuit (actually a circus) that would rule leftist no matter what.
In this case, in my opinion the circuits were just crazy with their decisions. Decisions that a first year law student should be able to take apart they were so bad and I think they knew it. Obama packed the 4th circuit during his term with just whacko leftists. If you were for the law, he wouldn't appoint you. In fact he's appointed about 40% of the Federal judges out there. Ideology over law is the left's mantra. Even if it later comes back to literally kill them as it has in many countries.
The thing is, what else is it doing? A speed camera works on 1/10th of a second, probably even in Australia. If something else is running in this case a virus, is it stealing cycles? Maybe instead of 1/10th of a second it's 1/5 of a second because of the encryption it was doing on a file. Encryption takes a lot of processing power. Now instead of 20 feet you've traveled 30 feet so now you're doing more like 90 MPH instead of 60. It could still say you did that in 1/10th of a second. Who knows.
These systems have to be certified. Certification is a bitch. If it isn't as it is certified, it really shouldn't be believed. Even radar, they must do a calibration before and after their session. There's a whole protocol. Cop has to be trained on it, etc. See "beating the radar rap" book. This is like a thermometer that is calibrated to 100C. Mercury continues beyond that, so what it is 1/4" beyond that? A lot of people would be tempted to say 105C or something. The answer is we don't know because it isn't calibrated to that point. Same thing here, it's not calibrated and we shouldn't trust it. They must throw them all away.
I've seen a number of them over the years. When my back gets out of line. When it does you can visually see when I walk that something's wrong. After a session, the spine is back in line and on its way to healing.
My Daughter had a neck injury. She'd used to fall to the floor screaming. Equestrian related injury. Took some years. She'd see the Chiro when needed. Today she's fine.
The alternative for a lot of these situation is either addictive type drugs or surgery. Don't let them cut you if you can help it.
Windows is just about the smallest target you mean. Who uses it anymore? From phones, tablets, set top boxes, autos, satellites, routers, switches, san... well you get the picture. I could keep on going. It does have a hold of some business desktops, however even there it's going away. I'm seeing local businesses and even chains that use Linux.
So no, it's not the largest target. It's the smallest. There's a good chance that in 10 years people will say Microsoft windows - what's that?
I used one in Georgia, off of route 95. The only think I didn't like is that they hid the budget items. They were pushing the high dollar items, of course. Other than that it was quick, I got a little pager with a number to type in, life was good.
Hey, gotta raise the minimum wage... Never mind those people will now be out of work. Happens over and over. Jobs move south, then overseas. Still we listen to stupid people trying to spend other people's money.
You are so sued! Let's see your license to practice medicine, psychology, voodoo, etc.
This should have been marked funny. Since when can we hold anyone accountable for advice in this field. It's a multi billion dollar industry full of crap advice. I understand from my Aviation doctor that one of his patients bought something at GNC that destroyed her liver. Just type in gnc destroyed liver. I think it was a 17 year old girl, dead. I don't think anyone was held accountable for that. Nothing to see, just look the other way.... Talk to your Congressman and they don't seem to care.
The French like to think they figured it out first. They think they're the center of the Universe. Don't tell them that they're not. They often get upset.
Fact is, it didn't work out of the box. So none of the 10S machines were infected by Wannacry. Fair enough. However the whole big deal of 10S is that it's supposed to be fricking hard, like Linux/Unix hard to break it since they eliminated all of the buggy 32 bit API calls. Looks like it's the same old crap. They didn't fix the OS. It's like the 16-32 bit transition all over again.
Yes. I have a package in the basement. Price on it is 43 cents. Probably from the 1960s. I found it in a house I bought. Still works very well. I remember they used to put DDT on playgrounds it was so safe. Nothing like the crazy environmentalists want us to believe.
I think we need a dose of reality. Self contained reliable electric is way off. Probably not in my lifetime still. Stuff breaks. Solar cells won't last forever. There will also be spaces of bad days. The why is the normal reason why - it's hard. Not that they can't do it, they want to find an easier way to life.
Looking back at what I responded to, I have to wonder WTH you are talking about. Sounds like I was way beyond you? In just a few sentences and a reference to a definitive graph that shows a comparison to the past, which is precisely what he was arguing, I showed he was wrong.

Just set fortune cookie to overwrite /etc/motd every day.
Can lead to really funny stuff and some fun with admins.

User scripts. Firefox is almost always a greasemonkey script. Start here - https://github.com/OpenUserJs/...
I wouldn't mind paying for a smart density. If we could just get rid of all the fake news, like CNN, NBC and others have admitted to lately.
The UX bros is what made the net great in the first place. Back when Windows was just a program loader and apple was new to the GUI. No, it's the Windows and the Apple bros that have their finger prints all over the crappy re-design.

Can't make this stuff up. I see that they claim this is only temporary. However once it's in, it's often really tough to get rid of it.
