Mod parent up. The reality is that this bill is focused on the cumbersome nature of tracking all forms of electronic communication. The legislators didn't want to deal with such a massive record keeping need since they are all part time anyway (IMHO). Herbert does want to effectuate a balance in what the public wants and what is realistic.
I was about to say yes because you can use the same Apple ID with iTunes and with the Mac App store. But then I noticed two different balances displayed in my Mac store versus iTunes store, though they are the same ID. Which is odd given that I've never bought from the Mac App store so I don't know where the $0.93 came from. So I'm guessing that I may have had some dollars loaded on iTunes before and then was given an iTunes card for Christmas which I redeemed. So perhaps the gift cards only go with iTunes?
Interesting point about Starseige. In fact, when Halo was being developed, the grand question was if Tribes 2 and Halo could exist in the same universe. Obviously times did change.
Your point here is critical:
I'm not saying that science presupposes atheism. It's more accurate to say that science turns a blind eye to theology because the scientific method can't be applied to supernatural occurrences. Science doesn't deny the existence of god, it simply restricts its attention to the natural world. I think the problems arise when scientific theory tries to declare religious truth and religious theory tries to declare scientific fact. In my opinion, true religion and true science (assuming a person believes in "truth") will always agree, but until we can completely determine truth and fact, we ought to just keep them separate. Yes, I think God created the earth and yes, I think the earth is billions of years old. How did God make an earth billions of years old? I have no clue, but I'm good with that for now.
Two cars passed through on the left, but you can see where one stopped and started backing up. The last one slowed down, but the video was then cutoff.
Check out Gerald Schroeder's "Science of God". He considers the creation account in the book of Genesis as a view from the beginning looking forward, whereas modern scientists are looking from our point in time backward. Using some mathematics and relativity, he demonstrates that a handful of thousand years from "Day 1" equate to the 13 billion years to May 12, 2007. I heard his presentation years ago, else I'd explain it better. Bottom line is that the whole time frame disagreement is simply a matter of relative position on the time line.
I believe so, as that was the case as of 2005. Microsoft did a presentation about developing 3D game effects to CS students at my college and brought a recruier and a Bungie employee to demo the effects. Afterward I went to the Bungie employee and asked him if Bungie would be producing Halo 3, or would it be like when Bungie only published but did not actually create Myth 3 and Marathon 3. The employee replied "I don't think Bungie is about to let another developer touch Halo."
I'll admit, that though this article is provocative, I am VERY GLAD that Slashdot isn't just about open source technology. The Nerds & Geeks that frequent this site tend to be intelligent, educated, and opinionated. Makes for some excellent dialogue, information, and insight.
As has been stated before many times, i get more out of the comments than the actual articles. Be the comment a profound example of someone who should have been selected out by the Darwin Awards having jumped into the Gene Pool when the lifeguard wasn't looking or be it insight that some professors are paid millions to come up with in think tanks... i am enlightened. If nothing else, to realize there really are people out there that [insert whatever adjective here (such as smart, racist, profound, plagerizing, etc)].
I think there might be some bitterness at Novell's Provo branch from when the company relocated the official headquarters two years ago. Some say it was to make Novell seem more relevant to the business world that they moved from Utah to Boston. So perhaps they can take some of that pent up agression and make a hit up in Lindon:)
Quote from post: "That solution "tell them to put me on the do-not-call list" simply keeps the burden on the consumer, not the telemarketer. Also, how do you do it to recorded calls?"
I have found that if you wait till the end of the automated telemarketing message, frequently they will say "Press 2 to be removed from our calling list" or something to that effect. It seemed to work well.
So where could i find a copy for a 604e processor? Is there a PPC BeOS for download that is respectably up-to-date? I think the last PPC might have been v3 but here's hoping.
The massive amount of security is actually tied to a much much larger system. BYU-Provo (the original poster was referring to BYU-Idaho) is three times larger, with over 30,000 students. However, the campus actually runs the data center for the Church of Jesus Christ. The personal records of 11,000,000 living people (and nearly a billion dead ones) are warehoused there so technical security, identity theft prevention, and privacy are extremely high priorities. Security policies both technical and procedural are employed at the university level, church level, and every level related to them. Some have compared BYU to being more technically advanced than MIT as far as full implementation of technology throughout the campus.
Regarding the honor code. The Church Educational System which runs the BYUs and several hundred other smaller educational programs is guided by fundamentally religious principles. All students are asked to commit to living the standards of the Church in their educational pursuits. This is recorded in the record system. I'd have to disagree that asking someone to recommit is an example of hypocrisy, more like an example of support, encouragement, and patience.
And yes, if you break the honor code it is your ass, and probably your soul;). BYU will destroy its football program before they will allow the honor code to be slighted. The administration has booted entire sections of the starting lineup for honor code violations. You give your word to uphold the standards, and if you don't, you're gone. Simple as that. No hypocrisy, just enforcement. Most universities probably have honor codes, but at BYU, its actually enforced.
I completely agree! Specialization of labor works well, why not specialization of gadget duty. But then again, how are we going to carry all that?
I have a cell phone, PDA, keys, wallet, and if I add an iPod, my contact lense rewetting drops, my chap stick, or who knows whatever i might need, that piles up to a butt load of stuff. Being a typical male, i have it scattered across the eleven total pockets among my cargo pants and jacket. That gets annoying if i need to change pants or my jacket.
So does that mean we are all headed toward purses?
From reading the many previous posts, I see people are clamoring that this is a violation of Church and State. The Mormon Church is out to influence Utah politics and filter free speech. In other old news, the Evangelical Christians are forcing religion and the commandments on our court houses. A Born-again President wants to put individuals of faith in government.
There is a huge difference between the separation of Church and State and the separation of Religious beliefs and Politics (or Government for that matter). Church and State are institutions. Formal organizations that can dictate the way you live your life and when the two organizations unite, that is when religious freedom is removed and healthy disagreement gives way to oppression. Hense the massive concern about Iraq becoming an Islamic State.
Though Church and State can and must be separated, there will never be a full separation of religion and politics. Religion forms a bedrock of principles and guidance for decision making. Political views are formal expressions of those principles as they relate to other people and issues. And naturally, that religion and politics will transfer into government policy.
That said, it is perfectly reasonable for a religious majority to choose to include religious beliefs as themes in government decision making. Just look at all 50 states' constitutions and see how soon you hit a reference to deity. I think after understanding the above, the more important question is how to meet the desires of the majority without oppressing the beliefs of the minority.

Ironically, he's just about right: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knob_and_tube_wiring
I think that's British spelling.

"How's that funny? What is it that tickles the moderators - the tradition or the act itself?"
...when worlds collide...
The tradition applied to the modern context.
