I am a Wikipedia contributor, with around 5800 edits. I started editing in 2005. Most of my edits are minor ones, cleanup, etc. Although I have contributed a lot of text to many articles, I also enjoy contributing free-use images and providing references for articles in order to improve the reliability of an article; too many articles on Wikipedia do not cite their sources. Jimmy Wales should not state that only several hundred users are the most important editors on Wikipedia, because in reality everyone on Wikipedia who is contributing, whether by adding text or by cleaning up articles or doing maintenance, they're all helping out in one way or another. Most people all work on different stuff, so nobody can be called the "most important", its too broad a term.

OK, so he cites that he himself had a problem with his adapter, and someone else. If this has not even happened to more than 5 people, I can't see how its dangerous by design. These seem like one-off individual problems, nothing wide-scale that would require a recall. I've had a PowerBook G4 since 2003, and the same adapter for 3 years, 0 problems.

  7. Re:Apple on Apple to Unveil New Leopard OS in August · · Score: 1

No. The masses want an OS that they can actually use and get stuff done on, so they will want speed and efficiency. Most people don't give a damn what it looks like, they just use whatever their computer came with, and thats why Windows is dominant, because every manufacturer bundles it except for...Apple. People hardly ever switch from what came with their computer, also with Internet Explorer is the dominant browser even though its crap.

  8. Apple's next Mac OS X, Leopard on Apple to Unveil New Leopard OS in August · · Score: 2, Interesting

Once again, the Slashdot editors did a great job, not. This news was released by Apple last month, and the writing quality of this news segment is terrible. Leopard's expected features are built-in virtualization, related with Boot Camp, a new file system (possibly, unsure on this one myself), new finder (hopefully finally not carbon anymore), improved spotlight, dashboard widget editor, improved mail.app, ichat 4.0 with tabbed chatting, safari 3.0, and of course a ton of security fixes, bug fixes, etc. I dont know what exactly will be "new" of course. Will it be cool and fast? We'll have to wait and see...It will obviously crawl around on older Macs (G3s) if they are even supported, but speed along on the new Intel Macs. Market share... With Apple's new Intel Macs, market share is already increasing, but not by much - probably in the range of 0.50 - 1.50% this year. However, through 2007 I expect Apple to gain a few more percent market share, and they might compete more aggressively against Dell and others. Apple will never gain more market share with their software, only with their hardware (unless of course, they license OS X to the PC cloners). Just my take on all this, and my attempt to sort of complete this news post as it should have been done.

I would buy a Sony Walkman if they were actually any good. The current models are more expensive than the iPod and have less features, and very ugly designs. Sony need to lower their prices to even be considered as a serious player in the MP3 market. I saw a stupid little Sony Walkman player, the screen was about half the size of the iPod nano screen, and it was only 256MB and it was over $200!

  12. Nothing new on Study Says Cell Phones Can Interfere With Planes · · Score: 1

Everyone has known this for years, and that's because everyone who travels on planes is told by the cabin crew that cell phones must be turned off during flight, take-off and landing. Why do we need a study to prove this to us? It's god damn obvious when the airline tells us it for our own safety!

I like speculation when it makes some sense but this is pure crap. Apple has nothing to gain from buying Disney - Just because Steve Jobs joins the board at Disney doesn't mean he wants to buy them out with Apple. Since when does a computer/electronics company buy a company that produces films? Apple can already get Disney content on iTunes without having to buy them. A more sensible thing would be for Disney to become a subsidiary of Apple but it still wouldn't make much sense for Apple.

Other dead OSes, such as System 7, have been emulated on the PSP,Macs and PCs but I don't see that having any 'future'. Isn't it a but of a stupid question? The Newton OS is great - I have two Newtons and an eMate which all run the Newton OS, but its been dead ever since Apple discontinued the Newton products in 1997 and it won't ever be alive again, sadly.
