First off, there is no 'average' college student and just because you go to a #1 school doesn't make you 'capable' of doing jack shit other than going further into debt.
I'm currently a college student (4th year, will graduate after 5 years) and when high school students ask me about college there is really only one thing I say. "Go to the school you feel most comfortable learning at, because you will learn pretty much the same damn thing no mater where you go and ultimately 'where you learned it' doesn't really matter after you have a resume that proves you can apply whatever you learned to the real world"
I have no problem giving people my gmail account address for business-type-transactions because it is a hell of a lot easier to keep track of my conversations and actually get business done using gmail. When I do need a "professional" email address I usually just have it forwarded to my gmail account, again, because it is easier to keep my life organized that way.
Not to mention how great gmail and Google Calendar Sync work on my BlackBerry.
It has really become a first-rate application suite for just about every use.
I might add that this machine was recently reformatted and is safely behind NAT and I use it to only play music and host media files, so trying to compromise it now would be... difficult.
For instance, I had a Windows XP machine with the latest updates setup as the DMZ host for YEARS and I *NEVER* got compromised in any way. And this is with no anti-virus or firewall. I used this thing for all of watching movies, so if it got hacked I would just reformat the thing. Every so often I would come back and run a virus scan (not norton or mcafee, but like NOD or Kaspersky) I would not find a single thing.
Not once, not ever.
EVER
Now spyware/adware I watched crop up constantly. Those anti-virus programs would find that all over. But that is mostly from downloading it unknowingly or just being careless.
Now go on my parent's computers and it is full of crap that they downloaded. They were behind NAT the entire time.
Why in the hell do we not have these simple Q&As from our government more often? I learned more in the past 10 minutes than I would on CNN/MSNBC (Fox teaches you a lot, most of it wrong) over an entire week.
He is the guy that everyone trusts, and from all the interviews I have seen of him he seems genuinely apologetic (although I don't know that he has ever exactly said it) about the UN thing and knows it destroyed a lot of his reputation... and I think if America is ready to forgive anyone, it is him
Have you watched any of the longer-running more established youtube 'series'? They all have popup-on-screen ads on them
The big issue here is that the size of the window is so freaking small. Watching more than a few minutes with something that small is just painful, and the 'Full Screen' mode, even with their new HD player, still pales in comparison to hulu
But also remember, there is a LOT of continuity in cities. Especially on commercial buildings.
The best one I could think of are those huge industrial chillers that commercial institutions have on their roofs for their AC. There aren't a billion models of them, so if you could somehow detect the model of the AC units in one photo you already have a good amount of geometry going for you.
Then you figure out what cars are on the street. A Prius has a specific shape that really doesn't change from Prius to Prius, so you know some of the details about every car on the street.
Manholes are a standard size, if you were to figure out what type of manholes you had in your picture you have more data. How many police boxes and fire hydrants are there in a photo of a NYC block?
If you gave me a super-high-resolution photo of a city block I could find literally hundreds if not thousands of points of reference. Soda bottles and cans... the list goes on
Yes... they will charge him with a felony for not paying up and extradite him to the USA where he will serve jail time and the court will sell off all of his stuff...
Now if he manages to get to Iran/North Korea/Cuba then there wouldn't be an issue...
Or is COULD BE that there is no 'group' 'Anonymous', but simply a bunch of people who visit the *chans and Encyclopedia Dramatica and feel that they are not responsible for their actions because they are 'anonymous.'
They feel they have no responsibility to anyone. And that lack of responsibility means they are free to act out what they would otherwise never do if it could be linked back to them. In some people this allows regressive behavior, in others it makes them feel powerful, and to some (most?) it is just entertaining to watch...
With the CoS it is like the ultimate anonymous 'entertainment experience'. If people knew that Scientology was not taping them or keeping records less people would show up... They aren't protesting the CoS because they dislike the CoS, rather they are entertained by the idea of protesting something that really wishes it was not in the public spotlight...
Now this does not apply to everyone in the CoS 'Anonymous.' Some people showed up because they agree that CoS is ruining peoples lives. But lets face it, CoS impacts next to nobody in this country... the Catholic Church teaches people that a guy 1980 years ago pulled off the ultimate 'suicide by cop' and rose from the dead 3 days later and almost nobody protests them... theatens story, absolutely everything created in just over a workweek, xenu, flying zombie... I mean seriously, CoS it is just a 'fun' target...
And I mean no disrespect to the people in Anonymous whatsoever... the more time you spend trying to get the tax exempt status off of CoS the better...
Or it could be that people don't trust banks now because banks trusted people with loans that they could never possibly repay barring their winning the lottery (although with interest rates as high as these people were getting, even that may not have saved them)
Here is what I have been seeing said a few times that makes some sense to me:
One thing that IS causing a problem is the decrease in the value of the dollar. It is cheaper to sell American products like Wheat and Corn overseas than keep it in the USA, which means Americans have to pony up extra-cash for stuff so that it makes sense for farmers to keep their products in the USA. But the value of the dollar is based on how much other countries trust keeping their money in USD, and with all the economic indicators the way they are, and the banks being in trouble the most, overseas banks are thinking that keeping their assets in a currency that is NOT the USD is a better idea. How much that has to do with the war I don't know.
As long as we don't go back to the gold standard I'm good. Because the moment someone figures out how to make gold out of a less expensive material we are all screwed. If I can make something with 79 electrons, 79 protons and 79 neutrons out of my basement we will have a real crisis on our hands.
I don't think the idea is to remove ALL of your site from Google, just the stuff that the search would help you with.
It is a mixed blessing here. Like search for newegg on Google and you will see one of these boxes. It sucks compared to Newegg's base search. But for a lot of sites, their internal search is horrible.
well... and carrier partners that have actual 3G rollouts in most major cities like Sprint and Verizon... so when a 3G android phone comes out you will be able to use 3G features more places than the iPhone (at least for a little while)
and without carrier-specific rules you won't have the limitation on things like VoIP, although everyone seems to have really inexpensive unlimited plans nowadays that the only reason I would see VoIP being worthwile is if you want to tie your phone into your business's phone system)
Indeed... We won't know what apple means until they actually start talking more intimately with developers of these apps.
And wasn't Firefox having big issues with their mobile platform? Why would you want to port that to the iPhone when the Webkit-based Safari mobile seems to be doing a damn fine job? Lacks a lot of plugins I guess, but I don't know that you would want a 1:1 port of current plugins. Opera probably has more of a reason to develop on the iPhone than Mozilla, simply because they are already in that market. I've never heard of Apple & Opera having any bad blood.
Also, remember, Apple is working intimately with larger developers on iPhone Apps. Skype is a bandwidth hog and those apps are specifically limited, but it will be allowed to work over the Wifi (this was asked and answered in a press Q&A session after the presentation on Apple's site was finished.) Don't expect any peer to peer apps to work on the cellular network either, which should make sense.
Re: Your cripling of SMS service providers
Message: Go fuck yourself
That is complete and utter bullshit

At least for undergrad.
I have 2 in my wallet right now
American Express Clear and Chase Freedom
Nice at McDonalds, 7/11 and CVS when I want to confuse the hell out of the cashier.
Why would they have such an unnecessary expense?

Remember, this is DMZ host as in Consumer Router DMZ host. Open to all inbound internet traffic.
I might add that this machine was recently reformatted and is safely behind NAT and I use it to only play music and host media files, so trying to compromise it now would be... difficult.
I was thinking the same way

Now all we need is a PHEV that has regenerative breaking that doesn't look like a... well... Prius...
give me a freaking 'normal' looking car that has regenerative breaking and I can plug in at night and I will be happy.
Or declaring the day 'Mr. Joe Blow' day because he is an influential member of that congressperson's district that is somehow noteworthy
I want an interview with the C-SPAN cameramen to know how they don't fall asleep during it all. Can we arrange that?
Why in the hell do we not have these simple Q&As from our government more often? I learned more in the past 10 minutes than I would on CNN/MSNBC (Fox teaches you a lot, most of it wrong) over an entire week.

Yes... they will charge him with a felony for not paying up and extradite him to the USA where he will serve jail time and the court will sell off all of his stuff...

And the big player in RTS and MMRPG (Blizzard) already releases every one of its products on both Mac and PC simultaneously.
They had a Universal build of World of Warcraft out almost instantly.
Why do I have a feeling MSFT is going to come out ahead with this deal
As for if this will stand in the EU... that is another question all-together.

Actually, the nightly build of WebKit (OS X) is already at 95/100. The latest Safari isn't nearly as high.
Not like it matters. By the time anyone trys something that is in the ACID3 test there will be an ACID4 that nobody can get to 100 with
Linden is a for-profit company though... how did they get a spot on here?

There are none... Google toolbar, even when overriding your old addons to work with the new ones, doesn't work.
I am still using the nightly builds and absolutely loving it. So much faster than B3 on my MacBook Pro
