you know mentioning kde in the California thermostat control dept. is off topic, but i will bite anyway, i been a kde fan for years, since Slackware8 with kde-2.1.1, currently running Crux with a hand rolled qt & kde-3.5.8, from what i seen when i took a rc of kde-4 for a test drive i don't think it will be all that usable until 4.2.1 (somewhere in there) personally i think the kde team pushed it out the door way too soon, i hate the new menu scheme/style, and that huge panel needs an autohide & resize feature (i like a small or tiny kicker/panel with autohide turned on) since i like my apps to take up 100% of the screen...
do NOT welcome the destruction of the democratic process that is happening since the implementation of electronic voting machines, i wont bother to vote anymore...
i totally agree, just go to any Chevrolet or Dodge or Ford dealership and you cant get a new car for less than 15 thousand dollars, i surely hope small inexpensive cars like this Tata come to the USA, for those that putter around town surface streets @ no faster than 40MPH the little 30HP motor will do fine, getting on the expressway or Interstate highway might be a little more of a challenge...
ah ha! you are so right!, i have my nose in the HF too much, i mostly ignore VHF/UHF except when programming a police scanner...
i have a nice R.L. Drake shortwave receiver and love to listen to HF a lot, so when ham radio is the topic the HF bands are what i automatically think of...

Hand-Made Vacuum Tubes
·
· Score: 1
there are places where vacuum tubes are still used, some radio stations use them in their transmitters, i was once inside the local AM radio station in my home town and the vacuum tube was as big in circumference as a dinner plate and about 18 inches tall, so there still is some commercial/professional demand for them...
did i see him transmitting CW on 14.524? in the USA i know the top limit on the 20 meter band is 14.350, not sure about France, someone with that much talent and skills can do whatver the they want (Kudos!) that is some remarkable craftsmanship...
what if they had a device installed that emitted e.m.p or some other electromagnetic destruction of data from disks and usb memsticks, and people would only find out later that all their harddrives & USB memory sticks wiped clean...
not sure if this would work on CD/DVD roms though...
that was my first thought too, 2.5 gallons of fuel per plant a day amounts to all the coal fired plants in the USA can get together and sell one person a tank of gas for their car...
i seriously think the voting system in the USA is a farce and the democratic process is dieing if not dead already, it just seems fishy with the obvious flaws and vulnerabilities in electronic voting machines yet the people in charge of implementing electronic voting machines seem to ignore this issue...
when i was in my teens & 20's i purchased lots of music, when i got in my 30's music purchases slowed down, not that i am in my mid 40's i do not buy any music partly because i lost interest in what is currently out there today, i have a coupld of shoe boxes full of cassette tapes and i refuse to re-buy music i already paid for, so they mostly just sit in a closet until i take that occasional road trip then i get a few out to take with me just in case there is nothing on the radio i like...
voyager 1 was launched in 1977 it is just now reaching the edge of the solar system = 20 years, i think a man in a space craft would die of old age before getting the slightest bit anywhere near another solar system in the same galaxy so you can forget any plausible space travel beyond our own solar system unless a space craft can travel at least 99% the speed of light, even then it would be a gamble with HUGE risks, maybe in a virtualized universe in computer models you can learn a few things, and even cheat by traveling @ warp speed...
RE:["You would think that for half a million dollars they would pay someone to follow you and take care of the load."]
i would not doubt it, at the time i was not looking for anyone following, with that kind of value in merchandise i could understand if they did, people have been killed for far less...
when i drove an 18 wheeler i hauled a some very expensive loads, once i picked up a load of Macintosh computers from Apple's Sacramento's warehouse and hauled them to Omaha Nebraska, another time i picked up wine (the kind you can drink) in several locations in northern California and hauled them to Little Rock Arkansas, thats just two examples, the Macs were the most expensive, (i bet there were close to half a million dollars worth of freight in Macs) when Apple was loading those Macs they told me to only stop at well lighted truck stops & stay away from roadside rest areas and given me a designated route along with the bill of lading...
RE:["Talk about government waste all you want, the alloted money is going fast."]
i wonder how many people with a basic cable subscription & a analog TV are getting one too that don't really need one, i was discussing this with my mom a few days ago and she was concerned and wanted to get one, i told her since she has a cable connection and not an antenna for picking up broadcasts over the airwaves that she did not need one, and also i talked with the cable tv provider and they said that analog TV will continue over cable...

what does this mean for radio propagation for the next year or few years? good or bad propagation? lots of RFI?
