  1. Re:I think fatigue as in boredom is coming on Social Network Fatigue Coming? · · Score: 1

Reading profiles and looking at friend lists will get old for any given user in the demographic social networking sites cater to. However, the users in that demographic keep cycling. One person gets bored and phases out, at least one new user discovers this wonderous new (to them) site and phases in.
Take sex or rebellion. Every generation thinks they've invented both. By the time they realize they haven't, an entire new generations begins the process again.
So while the individual users may get bored or move on, the demographic as a whole is always in the same state of interest.

The DS Lite is a nice little device. Plus "New Super Mario Bros," "Mark Kart," "Brain Age," and "Trauma Center" are great games to pick up for it. Definitely worth while.

    band: Why?
her: Well, your xylophone player is horrible. No talent at all!
band: Um, we don't even have a xylophone player. We're a three piece garage band: guitar, bass, drums.
her: Well, I knew you'd hate me. But let me finish! You have a mastery of Nirvana covers.

Something along those lines. It's the "You'll say I'm flaming because I am, but I'll acknowledge that I'm flaming and say some good things to cover it up so I won't look like I'm writing a flame bait article to drive hits to our web site!" technique.

As per the battery issue. I know people who have mobile phones "a couple years old" that have to charge up every day as well. Batteries will do that if you don't take care of them. Then there was this little gem:

I've spent hours of my life convincing iTunes I should be allowed to play songs I either ripped from lawfully bought CDs or purchased from Apple itself on my laptop or my iPod. (emphasis mine)

That little gem right there leads me to believe this is more flame bait than anything else. And I stopped reading there. If you are honestly having difficulty ripping a CD and getting it to work in iTunes or on your iPod, I don't think you are qualified to be writing this article. I'm aware she's trying to be balanced and even mentions a few times about "flaming" and so-on, but seriously? You can't get ripped songs to play in iTunes?
    < /soapbox >

As for the rumored iPhone itself... I'm sure it will look slick and hopefully just work (tm), but it has to be pretty damn good to survive in the saturated mobile market. People have to really want it (which they will) and continue to want it (that's the kicker). I know a guy who's on his 32nd mobile phone. He got his first in 1998. That's 4 phones a year. While he's on the extreme end of the scale, it reflects how fickle people can be about their mobile phones. It's going to be a tough market for Apple to work with.

The original question did mention specifically SDI or YUV-Component video signals. I'm assuming the broadcast will still be analog.

However, there's yet another kink in this whole system: frame accuracy. First of all, everything needs to be in drop frame timecode to even ensure your programs aren't stretching too much. (You'd be off by 3 seconds and 18 frames every hour if you're looking at everything in non-drop-frame. That adds up quickly.) Once you get past that, you need to ensure the same frame accuracy on switching between video feeds. Even if there's a 1 frame delay between each switch, that adds up quickly, too. If these aren't done right, within a week you'll be starting your 7:30pm show at at 7:40pm or later.

RSS and HTTP cannot be interchanged. You don't "download files over RSS" like you stated in your original post. You're still using (for the most part) port 80 with good old HTTP to fetch the RSS file (which I'm not sure are still officially RSS files with all the iTunes markup that's in so many now), then HTTP again to download the audio file.

I'm not trying to say you're wrong, I'm just genuinely curious of that form of PDF distribution is indeed termed a 'podcast.' If it is, why isn't a regular RSS feed a podcast? After all, it points to a file and your browser does indeed download it.

I'm an Apple kid. I grew up on Macs. I own an iPod or two. I'm not necessarily defending Apple in their aggressive attack on everything 'pod' ('ipod' I can understand...). However, it looks as though they're not going after the term 'podcasting.'

The problem comes in because 'pod' can be derived from both iPod and podcast.
